Timezone and date
When I do the date +%Z I get the timezone. Which currently is EDT.
I am sending information to another system, that says EDT is not a valid
timezone. I have no way to modify the other system.
My question is - is there a way to get the non-day-lite savings time zone ?
For example EST is valid - EDT is not.
Just curious if there is an easy way already present to get a standard time
zone.
Thanks,

are --temp-dir and --daemon mode compatible options
Hi,
As far as I can tell, after version 2.6.4, the "--daemon" and "--temp-dir" options are not compatible anymore. Previous versions allow this. We use this heavily at my site. Is this an intentional change or bug?
My command to start the daemon is this:
/usr/local/bin/rsync --temp-dir=/.rsyncd-spool --daemon
Thanks,
-Eddie

Question about file ownership on destination
Hello
Regarding ownership on the destination:
rsync's man page indicates that when synchronizing files to a remote host,
-o implies the --numeric-ids option, which makes perfect sense aince the
named users/groups may not exist on the destination host. The problem I
have is that the files created on the destination still appear to be owned
by the local user (server1) on the rsync

Timezone error with chrooted rsync version 2.6.3pre1
Hi,
I am not sure it this still is a point, but I just discovered that a
chrooted rsync version 2.6.3pre1 is forgetting the time zone underways:
Jan 12 07:00:01 ftp4 rsyncd[11091]: rsync on dobes/ from dobes@edoc1.gwdg.de (134.76.28.251)

Rsync-daemon security advisories for writable daemons
There are two security advisories for people who run a writable rsync
daemon. One affects only those with "use chroot = no" (which is not a
very safe combination in general), and one affects a daemon that has
daemon-excluded files that are being hidden in a module's hierarchy.
Included are simple config-change suggestions that should help you to
avoid the security issues. These
