Here is the 2 main reasons: 1) It add extra header overhead similar to: Received by localost at time, etc....) 2) It put emails in local delivery queue so syncing becomes slow. 3)

How to manage email with an ISP restricted mailbox size?
Sorry if this is a bit off topic but I'm hoping list members here might have some ideas. Aim: use ISP provided email with restricted inbox size but keep an IMAP accessible archive of emails (including 'sent' messages) on a remote server. Scenario: - Don't want to run my own SMTP server - Have free ISP email with 1Gb mailbox limit and spam filtering that works well - Have remote

getmail, dovecot, virtual users
Hello, I've got a dovecot setup with virtual users coming from a MySQL database. The only system user I have is the vmail owner of the email store. What i'd like to do is use the program getmail to back up my gmail account and place that in my user's virtual mail store. I'm having issues making the configuration file and where to put it. Should it go in the virtual user's home

Client Identification
I have two seperate clients (using fetchmail) on two seperate machines that use the same login and the same ip address as each other fetching their mail over IMAP using IMAP idle. Naturally Dovecot assumes that they are the same machine but they are not so messages only get downloaded to one of the machines rather than both which is what I want. How do I get Dovecot to recognize them as two

Looking for a guide to collect all e-mail from the ISP mail server

Many ISPs have very low size limits for the mailbox sizes. The one I am looking at right now does have this problem (unless you pay extra). From what I have

Looking for a guide to collect all e-mail from the ISP mail server
Hi all: I am evaluating mail server solutions for a small business. The trouble is, I am only a part-time admin and a newbie to mail servers. Most guides I have seen are rather unrealistic: they encourage you to expose your e-mail server to the Internet, and hope that you have the resources to keep it patched up. I would rather have an internal mail server that collects e-mails from a standard

How to move/reorganise existing e-mails to yearly subfolders
First of all, thanks for your answer. > What is the problem with having huge online mailboxes? I wanted to keep our own mail server on premises, so that it is not exposed on the Internet. The current server fetches (and

Getting second quota limit out of database
Hello there, I am working with dovecot v2.2.12, and have setup a user and domain quota by using a quota/quota_rule for user and quota2/quota2_rule for the domain. This works fine when the limit configuration for both is stored inside dovecot configuration files. However, I would like to have the limits configurable on a user and domain base, and that data is stored inside my SQL database.

joining v2x member to v3x pdc

My problem is, that I can't update the system to v3 right now. The users are all stored in a ldap-directory which I'm able to access onto the system using the 'id'-cmd. The system has also

Another try: apps can't see data files until use of Win. Expl.
[I posted this problem a couple of weeks ago and got no responses. So I'm trying again] I have a couple of applications on a WinXP/SP2 system that use data files on a Samba (v2.2.12, on Linux) shared drive. Immediately after booting the WinXP system these data files cannot be seen, yet become visible when the share is browsed with Windows Explorer. These applications are started
