Sizing MTA servers
Hi All, This is probably a bit off-topic but does anyone have any idea about sizing MTA servers.?? We have about 200,000 emails/hr? incoming and outgoing.? I am intending using Exim and Spamassassin on each MTA.? How many servers using recent hardware would I need to cope with this mail throughput?? What is more important on the servers, CPU or RAM?? Should I have mail going both directions on

Providing shared folders with multiple backend servers
Hi *, I am currently in the planning stage for a "new and improved" mail system at my university. Right now, everything is on one big backend server but this is causing me increasing amounts of pain, beginning with the time a full backup takes. So naturally, I want to split this big server into smaller ones. To keep things simple, I want to pin a user to a server so I can avoid

POP3 Performance
Hi, We actually have a mail hosting solutions with aprox. 100 thousand of email account, where about 90% of a customers use POP3 like email configuration. About a few mounths (we perfomed a lot of migration throught mbox email software to Maildir with dovecot) but i can see that the performance is very poor and receive complaint about delays of autentications of accounts. The solution

Better to use a single large storage server or multiple smaller for mdbox?
I'm trying to improve the setup of our Dovecot/Exim mail servers to handle the increasingly huge accounts (everybody thinks it's like infinitely growing storage like gmail and stores everything forever in their email accounts) by changing from Maildir to mdbox, and to take advantage of offloading older emails to alternative networked storage nodes. The question now is whether having a

ZFS with Equallogic storage
I''m planning on setting up an NFS server for our ESXi hosts and plan on using a virtualized Solaris or Nexenta host to serve ZFS over NFS. The storage I have available is provided by Equallogic boxes over 10Gbe iSCSI. I am trying to figure out the best way to provide both performance and resiliency given the Equallogic provides the redundancy. Since I am hoping to provide a 2TB

OCFS2 and VMware ESX
Hi, We are haing some serious issues trying to configure an OCFS2 cluster on 3 SLES 10 SP2 boxes running in VMware ESX 3.0.1. Before I go into any of the detailed errors we are experiencing I first wanted to ask everyone if they have successfully configured this solution? We would be interested to find out what needs to be set at the VMware level (RDM, VMFS, NICS etc) and what needs to be

Performance of Maildir vs sdbox/mdbox
Hi Guys, I've been desperately trying to find some comparative performance information about the different mailbox formats supported by Dovecot in order to make an assessment on which format is right for our environment. This is a brand new build, with customer mailboxes to be migrated in over the course of 3-4 months. Some details on our new environment: * Approximately 1.6M+

Hardware performance question : Disk RPM speed & Xen Performance
Hello, I am a relatively new user of Xen virtualization, so you''ll have to forgive the simplistic nature of my question. I have a Dell R410 poweredge server (dual quad core CPUs + 32gb ram). I plan on utilizing this server with Xen. The ''dilemma'' I am having is whether or not to replace the 2x 500gb 7.2K RPM drives that came with the server with faster 300gb

Wazzup with the rubyonrails-talk Google Group?
I just got a Google Groups notification that I had been subscribed to http://groups.google.com/group/rubyonrails-talk. Looking at the page, it appears that about 4300 folks have been subscribed. However, I saw nothing about this on rails@lists.rubyonrails.org. Wazzup? -r -- http://www.cfcl.com/rdm Rich Morin http://www.cfcl.com/rdm/resume rdm@cfcl.com

measuring iops on linux - numbers make sense?
Hello, When approaching hosting providers for services, the first question many of them asked us was about the amount of IOPS the disk system should support. While we stress-tested our service, we recorded between 4000 and 6000 "merged io operations per second" as seen in "iostat -x" and collectd (varies between the different components of the system, we have a few such

Don''t Shout at your JBODs
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tDacjrSCeq4 I wonder if the inverse is true. If I whisper soothing words of encouragement at my JBODs, will I get more IOPS with reduced latency? :^)

SATA disk perf question
I figure this group will know better than any other I have contact with, is 700-800 I/Ops reasonable for a 7200 RPM SATA drive (1 TB Sun badged Seagate ST31000N in a J4400) ? I have a resilver running and am seeing about 700-800 writes/sec. on the hot spare as it resilvers. There is no other I/O activity on this box, as this is a remote replication target for production data. I have a the

SF Bay Area Beer and Pizza SIG (RSVP request)

Cucumber - RSpec matcher
I must be missing something obvious here but I cannot seem to see it. I have this step definition: When /entity named "(.*)" has a legal name "(.*)"/ do |name, legal| myentity = Entity.find_by_entity_common_name!(name.hll_keycase) myentity.entity_legal_name.should equal legal.hll_keycase end Which fails with this: And the entity named "Myuser" has a legal

Instiki 0.11.0 - ActiveRecord Forever
Dear all, If you thought Instiki was a dead project, you were right. Since I''ve got a day job that doesn''t suck (Official Ruby Zealot of ThoughtWorks Canada), my motivation to do open source greatly sufferred :) But... but... but! Here is Instiki 0.11.0, and in this version Instiki is (finally!) moving to ActiveRecord backend and (finally!) has the File Upload feature.

Scalability of Dovecot in the Cloud
Does anyone have any idea of how many IMAP connections a single cloud VM (4 vCores at 2.4GHz, 30GB RAM, local SSD storage - non-RAID) can be expected to handle in production. The mailboxes are fairly small (average 5MB total - 50MB max, as I don?t store attachments in Dovecot expect those saved through IMAP in the Sent/Drafts folders) and each user will probably have an average of 2 devices that

ajuby 0.4 release
Friends, We have released Ajuby 0.4. Please test drive and let us know how we can improve this further. Would love to address specific problems rather than making a yet-another-framework. We are aiming to fill the gap between Rails (amazing !) and business application development by providing necessary glue services (domain objects, authentication, auditing, extensible ui etc).

Unable to Plot using headers.
Hello List! Thank you for your input so far. I have successfully imported my data into R but have hit a snag in plotting. Simple plot commands are unable to find my headers when I try and plot my data on an x/y scatter. My data is a 2 column 8000 row table (saved as .txt file) imported into R. >demand=read.delim("C:\\Documents and Settings\\E066582\\My
