Assign external esata drive to KVM
Hello Everyone, I have a CentOS 6.3 host running a few KVMs. One of them is a CentOS 6.3 KVM that I want to use for making backups with BackupPC. What I'm having a problem with is assigning the KVM an external drive. I used to run BackupPC on an Ubuntu box. The backups went to an external eSATA 1.5TB, ext4 format, single partition drive (regular 3.5" in an enclosure). I want to now

USB-3.0 on C6.5 ??
Just wondering if there are any known issues with USB 3.0 storage devices in Centos 6.5?? I just got one of these: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817332028 it does either esata or USB 3.0. My new motherboard (ASUS M5A99X EVO R2.0) supports both, so I've tried both (of course, can't have a feature without at least giving it a whirl! :)). esata seems to work fine, I

backup / compressed copy
Hi, I think about buying a NAS-server from Sun. To backup this server I want to use our central to-tape backup. For whatever reason ppl are asking me to make one compressed copy to disk and only backup this copy. So to reduce load I'd like to have a script that: identifies changed files only (using md5?) copies them and compresses them storeBackup.pl does something similar, but keeps

Backup PC or other solution
I list, I'm new with backup ops and I'm searching a good system to accomplish this work. I know that on centos there are bacula and amanda but they are too tape oriented. Another is that they are very powerfull but more complex. I need a solution for small office for disk storage and I found Backup PC. Many people say that it is great for small stuff and for great number of data. What do

CentOS Server Backup Options
What do you guys recommend for backing up a small CentOS server in a business environment. It will have (3) 300gb drives in a raid 5 array but I don't anticipate more than about 25gb of data that needs to be backed up each night. I want a lot of backups with a rotation scheme that included daily, weekly, and monthly copies. I want the daily copies of the data kept until the next week, and

Remote backup of server
Hello, I want mount directory of one server to another over internet. I was looking to NFS4, but there are no security mechanisms. I need encrypted connection using private key (something like SFTP). Or - if there is in CentOS repo (or EPEL) package, that can mount directory over internet using private key and make differential backup (like rdiff-backup). Thank you very much for links or other

OT: USB3 drive occasionally not detected
Hi Folks, CentOS 5.5 x86_64 Asrock-Board with 2 USB3 plugs. Normally USB3-drive is detected. But occasionaly after "umount" next time this drive or other ones will not be detected. I have to boot the PC - than it works - till next unrecognition. On USB2 plugs all works correct. No messages in /var/log/messages nor dmesg. What happens here? Board failure - or other reasons? Some

Deduplication data for CentOS?
Hi list, is there any working solution for deduplication of data for centos? We are trying to find a solution for our backup server which runs a bash script invoking xdelta(3). But having this functionality in fs is much more friendly... We have looked into lessfs, sdfs and ddar. Are these filesystems ready to use (on centos)? ddar is sthg different, I know. Thx Rainer

lshw in centos 7 withdrawn
Warren Thanks for the thoughts. Even with 'dmesg', I found nothing. The reboot got rid of the problem and it continues to run perfectly in the same configuration. I, too, have a slight dislike for external USB disks, and much prefer internal drives for esveral reasons: - Internal drives are protected by being inside a tower and thus have less chance of falling or being bumped than

Zil on multiple usb keys
This might be a stupid question, but here goes... Would adding, say, 4 4 or 8gb usb keys as a zil make enough of a difference for writes on an iscsi shared vol? I am finding reads are not too bad (40is mb/s over gige on 2 500gb drives stripped) but writes top out at about 10 and drop a lot lower... If I where to add a couple usb keys for zil, would it make a difference? Thanks. Sent from a

SOLVED: Centos 7: printing four copies with Libreoffice prints garbage
After much head scratching and throwing most of a ream of paper into the trash, I just found and solved the problem. Thinking that perhaps I have a cable issue, I was re-seating the usb cable that connects my Xerox Phaser 3250 printer to the computer and realized that the printer was plugged into a USB 3.0 port on my computer. When I moved it to a USB 2.0 port, the printer immediately started

Question on server speed
Hi all, I have a customer server with 32 cores, 128G ram i7960X. So nice box... Why is it that "all" I am really doing at the moment is copying things to an external SSD disk USB3 connected and the machine "freezes"... Why is that? clearly plenty of CPU RAM everything... I can see "blocking" to write data to the external disk - but there are 31 other cores and

External SATA drive enclosures + ZFS?
Hi all, Space is starting to get a bit tight here, so I''m looking at adding a couple of TB to my home server. I''m considering external USB or FireWire attached drive enclosures. Cost is a real issue, but I also want the data to be managed by ZFS--so enclosures without a JBOD option have been disgarded (i.e., I don''t want to use any internal HW RAID controllers). One

Backuppc-updates on CentOS
Hi all, I installed BackupPC on one of my Centos 5.4-machines following the wiki at http://wiki.centos.org/HowTos/BackupPC#head-725ed151d366bcf182cea92f765c373900cfc9dc, where BackupPC is installed from the c5-testing repo. root at mach012 ~/ [0]# rpm -qa backuppc backuppc-3.1.0-1.el5.centos root at mach012 ~/ [0]# Seeing how there's been some updates to BackupPC in the near past, I
