possible bug with incoming mail
I've been using Dovecot for a couple months now and am very impressed. Thanks for a great package. However, I have noticed a problem that I haven't been able to solve. When a new message comes into my inbox, the last message that was received is marked as new as well as the new one. I originally thought this was a bug in my client (mutt) but I have verified that the same thing

OT: Looking for a robust IMAP client
This weekend we had a runaway email endless loop. When it was killed after 18 hours, my inbox had 135,000 messages in it...there were two messages that were being endlessly sent and bounced and I'm on the postmaster alias. Thunderbird was able to do a mass select of one of the two messages, and deleted 65,000, but after that it locked up. I ended up firing up Pine to do the final

t-bird, followup
Well, I updated my system late last week, and just thought to look: yes, I'm on t-bird 10.0.1, and I pull up the search messages window, and click on the dropdown... and there is NO OPTION to search the content of the messages. Maybe kmail, or maybe mutt.... mark

[OT] preferred clients
I'm getting tired of Thunderbird telling me I have unread messages in folders that haven't gotten new messages for months so I'm looking for a new mail client. I know the problem lies with Thunderbird because everything is fine via RoundCube and if it tell Thunderbird to rebuild it's index it shows the folder correctly again. Except of course for a subset of the messages in

Why does dovecot confuse mutt?
Heylas, I just switched my primary mail server from courier imap to dovecot (I've been waiting to do this; dovecot showed up in debian testing for alpha, at last). So, using the same set of maildirs, there are slightly different behaviors. First, of course, dovecot displays the hierarchy as I thought it ought to be, such that INBOX is a sibling of all other top-level boxes, not the parent

cross-platform email client
I'm a Thunderbird user almost since day one, but now I'm looking for something else. For whatever reason, it doesn't work well for me - every once in a while it becomes non-responsive (UI completely frozen for several seconds, CPU usage goes to 100%) and I just can't afford to waste time waiting for the email software to start working again. My main desktop platform is Linux,

Handling of X-Status flags
Hi all, I've done a bit of searching and haven't seen anybody else coming across this problem yet: I noticed that Dovecot uses the opposite flags for marking messages as deleted and draft to most other MUAs I've seen or used: With PINE, mutt and uw-imapd at least, messages are marked with X-Status 'D' for Deleted, and 'T' for drafT. Dovecot reverses this behaviour,

[OT] Fetchmail and Mutt help
Hi All, I setup Fetchmail and wanted to use Mutt to read e-mail. I used to use Pine and I just am sick of GUI e-mail clients these days. Bloat, complication and unreliable. Pine was my first ever e-mail client. I prefer to use POP still as I want may mail on my machine at all times. I can go into mutt and execute: 'fetchmail -v' and watch it bring down my e-mail. But in mutt i dont see

Evolution: always a 90-second delay
I'm trying to use Evolution on the latest CentOS 7. Whenever I try to receive or send mail, there's always a 90-second delay before the connection works. Since the delay is always exactly 90 seconds, I think I may be waiting for something to time out. Perhaps this is a clue. My address is user at example.com. I have to log in to pop.example.com or imap.example.com as user, not as user at

debian 0.99.8.1 packages available
I thought I'd mention it here because a lot of people have been waiting for me on this. My personal situation is getting saner now so I finally was able to package up 0.99.8.1. The package for sid was uploaded last night and should appear in the archive today. A backport for woody is available from http://www.braincells.com/open/ I have not included POP3, LDAP or SASL2 support for now as I

dovecot.procontrol.fi anonymous access fails?
Hi, just started using dovecot on FreeBSD. Nice and easy to configure :-) I then wanted to browse the dovecot mailing list, so, according to http://dovecot.procontrol.fi/mailinglists.html: IMAP archives available from dovecot.procontrol.fi, either use ANONYMOUS authentication or give anonymous as username and empty password. I was using a patched sylpheed that doesn't support

problem with dovecot and thunderbird while deleting
Hello! I have very strange problem with dovecot and thunderbird while deleting messages. The problem is that they are not actually deleted from storage filesystem and if I later run mutt I can perfectly see them, though marked with 'D', so mutt ask to delete them on exit and this time they dissapear from filesystem. I enabled in thunderbird 'remove it iimediately' feature, but

6.5, minor annoyances
I rebuilt my system a couple/three weeks ago, and it's running 6.5, and there's a couple of minor annoyances: first, all my xterms, when I login in from the console, always are in ~/Documents, rather than ~. The other is that, running KDE, I can't find where to turn *off* the stupid login/logout theme music.* Oh, and I get this enTHUsiastic menu, rather than the traditional one.

authenticate authenticated users
Hi I'm using dovecot on a LAN server. I sometimes read mail from the server itself locally with mutt and sometimes remotely with mutt or mozilla . I would like to avoid typing my password whenever necessary but without writing a plain-text equivalent copy of it locally. It feels quite silly to have to type the password locally becase the imapd does not know that the process is indeed a

Using Thunderbird as local mail reader
Hi! I'm trying to figure out how to use Thunderbird as a local mail reader. So far I don't see any way to configure it other than as a POP3 or IMAP mail reader, but I get my mail locally and would like to try using Tbird to read it. What am I overlooking? Thanks in advance! -- ---- Fred Smith -- fredex at fcshome.stoneham.ma.us ------------------------ ---- Do you

dovecot-smtp connection?
This may be a dumb question, but I'll ask because... :) I've got dovecot installed and running successfully on OpenBSD 3.9 (this *really* was an easy setup, my hat's off to the developer(s)). And the other employees can now use MS Access to read their mail (they didn't like mutt and pine via SSH - go figger'). So my final challenge is to get things configured so that

Problem: mail moved by thunderbird script is invisible to mail clients, but in cur directory
Over the last year I've had a script moving old mail (120 days) into my annual archive folder. This is the first year I've done this with Dovecot, previously it was running against Cyrus. There's nothing particularly clever: a few conditions to match, then "move message to" the appropriate archive folder. There's one for every year from 2000 to 2015. 2015 is just
