flashing divs in IE with use of BlindUp and BlindDown
I''m having an issue with flashing divs in IE (firefox is fine and the only other browser I''ve used) My scenario is as follows. I have 2 divs (initially hidden) and using the BlindDown and BlindUp functions (possibly others) the divs flash when starting to roll down in BlindDown (due to the Element.show call) and also at the end of the BlindUp call (due to the Element.hide call)

stage left and right effects
Here are two effects (with a common base) that perform a stage left/right effect. The effect is named after the Hanna Barbara character Snagglepuss. :) It shakes the contents briefly and then jets off (stage) to the left or right. I used the Shake effect as a guide to this one. The StageBase accepts the element and an "amount" to initially shake the element by. So in

Help with effect queue.
I have an interesting challenge for you. I am using both Scriptaculous and Prototype on a web site (not using Ruby) and I am trying to queue effects and updates. Here is the situation - I have a page with editable blocks, when the user clicks on the edit button under the box, I want it to: 1) Use Ajax to go out and get the code to build the editor form. 2) When it has the form, use Effect.BlindUp

safari vs. firefox on mac os x: flickering combination effects
Hi. I''m wondering if this is a documented problem. Combination effects such as .BlindDown or .SlideDown exhibit a not so fun flicker at the end of their rendering process in Firefox on Mac OS X. This does NOT happen in Safari. Does anybody know how to fix this or if it will get fixed in a next release? All best, Tench

Blind Toggle "effect"
I wrote a simple toggle function similar to Element.toggle that will toggle a section between being up and down using the Blind effect. I''m relatively new to the code, so I''m not sure if it''s implemented 100% correctly or if it can be done better. I am using it though and it seems to be working fine. Anyway, here''s the code and if you think it''s

[scriptaculous] Intermitently Disabling Clicks
I have button that slides down a menu using Effect.BlindDown, but the function that slides it down also makes it so that the opening link now slides the menu back in. If the user double clicks the link (thuse opening & closing immediatley) the slide animation breaks, then will not extend correctly (but no JS errors). How would you go about stopping this happening? Also, is it just me or is

:afterFinish not getting called?
I am attempting to remove an element in the :afterFinish callback of the "Squish" effect. This is what my call looks like. <%= link_to_remote ("X", :url => { :action => "deleteIt", :id => wc_line.attributes[''id''], :exercise_id => wc_line.attributes[''exercise_id''] },

RJS Queue
Hi, I''ve been able to succesfully queue page.visual_effect commands in my RJS templates. Each command will wait to execute until the previous command is done executing. But I''d also like to execute a page.replace_html command AFTER the page.visual_effect commands. I have a series of five DIVs: div1 div2 div3 div4 div5 When the user clicks on div1, a page.visual_effect

Effects: User action in callbacks in addition to the defined one.
Hello, there is one problem with the afterFinish etc. callbacks. The predefined ones in effects,js do some clean-up like in BlindDown, so I do want them to run. But I also want to run some custom things afterFinish. There is no way to run the predefined action in addition to my code. IMHO, there should be systemAfterFinish for the default stuff and afterFinish for the user''s stuff,

Initial load time when periodically_call_remote
When I do periodically_call_remote with e.g. :frequency => 30 after initial page load I have to wait 30 seconds until this partial renders first time. Does anybody know how to make ROR to render partial on web page load, and then start periodic calls every 30 seconds? I tried to put <div id=''mydiv''><%= render(:partial, :action=>''myaction'')

Effect problems
Hi, I developed my website locally with uniserver and everything was working well. I uploaded all my stuff to my production server and suddenly, nothing is the same... It seems that the queues are now broken and that my effects are running at the same time. What could cause this bug?? or what is wrong in my code?? I call the function on page load. Also, in IE, there is a kind of flash

model.frame: object is not a matrix
Over a decade ago there was a problem with model.frame when the variable names were long: https://stat.ethz.ch/pipermail/r-help/2002-August/024492.html I have similar symptoms with R 2.15.3 on Windows 7: Browse[2]> x <- model.matrix(formula(myform), p$data) Error in model.frame.default(object, data, xlev = xlev) (from mice.R#601) : object is not a matrix My attempt at a work-around

Passing extra parameters to functions called from Observers
Hi again, When you have an ''obeserver'' setup as follows: $(''myForm'').observe(''submit'', validateForm); If a user submits the form the ''validateForm'' function is called and is automagically passed the ''event'' to work with. This is fantastic! But is there a way to pass another argument to the function?

Hi, I would like to write a function which has the following syntax: myfn <- function(formula, ftime, fstatus, data) { # step 1: obtain terms in `formula' from dataframe `data' # step 2: obtain ftime from `data' # step 3: obtain fstatus from `data' # step 4: do model estimation # step 5: return results } The user would call this function as: myfn(formula=myform,

Small patch to Effect.Highlight
I sometimes highlight a div that originally has no background colour. The current Effect.Highlight will leave my div with a white background, and it was not quite right for my purposes. My one-line-patch is simply to add the afterFinish option if there is no current background colour (insert at line 268 of effects.js rev:1756) if ( !current ) options.afterFinish = function(effect){
