merge problem... extra lines appear in the presence of NAs
Good morning! I've searched the docs etc... Am I doing something wrong or is this a bug? I'm doing a merge of two dataframes and getting extra rows in the resulting dataframe - the dataframes being merged might have NAs... count <- 10 nacount <- 3 a1 <- as.data.frame(as.Date("2005-06-01")+0:(count-1)) names(a1) <- "mdate" a1$value <- runif(count)

Understanding contents of packages
Colleagues During the transition to R3.0.0 (OS X), one of the packages that I used -- SASxport -- did not work until I used the "type=source" option in install.packages. This led to an adventure: 1. I downloaded the package source: SASxport_1.2.4.tar.gz 2. in the SASxport/R folder, I found all the functions that are part of the package. I became interested in whether I could

Quirks with system.time and simulations

Gantt chart problem after upgrade to R 2.4.0
I am having a problem with a gantt chart since moving to R2.4.0. from 2.3.1 I made some adaptations to the code from http://addictedtor.free.fr/graphiques/RGraphGallery.php?graph=74 and successful produced a simple gantt chart. However when I upgraded to 2.4.0 it no longer works as desired. See http://ca.geocities.com/jrkrideau/R/gantproblem.pdf for the two charts. The charts were produced

Need help on parsing dates
I know this: > library(date) > x="1979-04-04" > try=as.date(x, "ymd") > print(try) [1] 4Apr79 and that `x' here has to be a string, e.g.: > x=1979-04-04 > print(x) [1] 1971 I'm stuck in reading from a file. I say: > A <- read.table(file="try") > print(A) V1 V2 1 1979-04-04

possible bug in chron packages
Dear, According to the documentation, the parameters given in "dates" are passed to the function "chron". When trying this out, it turns out that this apparently doesn't happen, eg: > dates("20100101",format="Ymd",out.format="day mon year") [1] 01/01/10 > chron("20100101",format="Ymd",out.format="day mon

Limit
Hi All, I am reading data file ( > 1B rows) and do some date formatting like dat=fread(mydatafile) dat$date1 <- as.Date(ymd(dat$date1)) However, I am getting an error message saying that Error: cons memory exhausted (limit reached?) The script was working when the number rows were around 650M. Is there another way to handle a big data set in R? Thank you.

day of the year for chron objects
Hi! Is not there an standard R function to retrieve the day of the year (since 1st Jan of the same year)? I know I can make my own using julian, but find it weird that having days(), months() etc doy() does not exist as an standard function. Also, is the following not a bit inconsistent? > a <- chron("20100506",format="ymd") > a [1] 100506 > years(a) [1] 2010

win2k memory problem with merge()'ing repeatedly (long email)
Good afternoon, I have a 63 small .csv files which I process daily, and until two weeks ago they processed just fine and only took a matter of moments and had non noticeable memory problem. Two weeks ago they have reached 318 lines and my script "broke". There are some missing-values in some of the files. I have tried hard many times over the last two weeks to create a

lubridate concatenation issue
I took a look at Hadley's lubridate which seems a very neat package, but i am having a small problem with  concatenating lubridates to build vectors of it. Namely when function c( )  is applied to lubridate seems to change time to a local timezone in this particular case changing the date to previous one.  > d<-ymd('20111231') > d [1] "2011-12-31 UTC" > c(d) [1]
