Eliminate the temp copy
Hi,
I have to sync two directories and one is an ftp mount. I had to set a
different tmp dir as tmp files are not allowed in ftp mounts so I see no
point in copying things to a temp dir if they won't be used for the
transfer.
Is there any way to eliminate the use of a tmp dir? If not, could it be
a feature request?

Novell''s PlateSpin Orchestrate
Curious if any one has looked at or done a trial of Novell''s PlateSpin
Orchestrate? Just watched their webcast presentation on it and it looks
interesting.
Thanks,

Hello Tom,
On the page 'http://lwn.net/Articles/313328/' i found info about changes
in 'cls_flow.c' in kernel-2.6.29:
net/sched/cls_flow.c | 4 +-
and may be now it will work properly to everyone's entertainment.
Thank you,

Too many methods in the model? Extra lightweight logic layer?
Hi,
Given the convention of fat models to handle business logic, is there
a point where you might be justified in using a separate plain ruby
object(s) to orchestrate certain business logic interactions,
essentially a middle layer between your controllers and models for
high level functions?
If you look at the InventoryTransaction model below you will see the
sort of methods I mean. In this case

I want to point out something about this direction that hasn't really come
up, but I think deserves some better discussion. I don't think it should be
the basis of a decision one way or the other,

FreeIPA + samba 4, any news?
Hi people,
I'm trying to move from windows PDC to samba, and I'm waiting a bit until samba 4 gets a little more mature. What I also want to use is FreeIPA as I need an LDAP+Kerberos environment not only for samba but also for the rest of the services.
Here is where I quite don't know really what is in samba's developers mind, so I don't know if I can use samba's ldap for

Samba 4 member of AD, help
Hi,
I've posted a couple of times in the list with pour results. Maybe I'm not in the right place.
If this is the place then I'm copying the text of my first post:
Hi there,
I'm a newy at samba 4 and I'm trying to joing a samba 4
alpha 17 box to our domain as a DC so I can "drain" the domain info and
use the linux box to test samba without disturbing the domain

Hello everyone,

with Galina about how live they are.
Yes, we have couple beagleboards. I can make them available if this will
add value.
Maybe we should set a special "release" buildmaster? Which would
orchestrate slow bootstrapped builds with extensive testing and collect
binaries. This lets us unify the way

Power Down ESXi before SAN
I have 2 APC UPS systems, one is connected to my ESXi host and the other to
my FreeNAS. The battery for the FreeNAS will run out before the battery
for the ESXi, so I need ESXi to shutdown first. If I wait until
BatteryLow on ESXI, it will be too late as FreeNAS will have already
shutdown. How can I change the configuration on ESXI to shutdown after a
small delay so that it is done before

First attempt to use R
While I am not a novice when it comes to statistics, this will be the first
time I have used R, apart from some intial play. I have normally written my
own code for statistical analysis in C++ or fortran, for a number of reasons
(in part contingent on what the boss was willing to pay for), and having been
programming for a long time, there is no need to spare me the programming
details.

High CPU on multiple syncs on Win2K
Hi all,
Allow me to quickly sketch our backup situation: we have about 40 sites. On
each site there's a Rsync client on an NT machine (Cygwin). In the main
site we have a huge Win2K fileserver which acts as a Rsync server. I'm
doing tests now with syncing the volumes of several Netware servers on the
sites (to which the Rsync NT clients have a mapping) to the Win2K server.
Initially we
