chmod and chown
Hello guys, does anyone of you have problems with chown and chmod operations taking extremely long time to complete. For example chown on 200 MB folder is taking minutes. The MDS is not loaded at all. All other operations (file read and write) seem to be doing fine. Any help is greatly appreciated. _______________________________________________ Lustre-discuss mailing list

Lustre buffer cache causes large system overhead.
We have just discovered that a large buffer cache generated from traversing a lustre file system will cause a significant system overhead for applications with high memory demands. We have seen a 50% slowdown or worse for applications. Even High Performance Linpack, that have no file IO whatsoever is affected. The only remedy seems to be to empty the buffer cache from memory by running

build and install lustre from source code -- warning on livcfs.ko for no modversions
I built and installed Lustre from source. When I installed built luster-modules- RPM, I got libcfs.ko from the kernel-2.6.18-prep has no modversions (the message is posted below), so it cannot be reused for kernel. Is there any procedure I need to do during the build? There is include/config/modversion.h under patched kernel, but the file does not have any contens and its size is 0. Thanks for

Loop device performance
Hello, I have a production script that do read operations to a lot of small files. I read that one can gain performance boost with small files by using a loop device on top of Lustre. So a created 500 GB file striped across all of my OSTs(which are 8). I formatted the file with ext2 fs, and mounted it on a client. Just for the sake of testing a simple bash script finds all files with a given file

UID/GID access control in Lustre
Hello list members, I started to develop a kernel module which hooks into Lustre 2.3 for controlling data access based on nid and uid/gid. The background is the following: Here at GSI we have currently a reserved uid/gid space which partner institutes are using to access our exported Lustre mounts. However, we currently have no mechanism to control (guaranty) that the reserved uid/gid space are

Speeding up configuration log regeneration?
Hi, We run four-node Lustre 2.3, and I needed to both change hardware under MGS/MDS and reassign an OSS ip. Just the same, I added a brand new 10GE network to the system, which was the reason for MDS hardware change. I ran tunefs.lustre --writeconf as per chapter 14.4 in Lustre Manual, and everything mounts fine. Log regeneration apparently works, since it seems to do something, but

How to track down a latency/timing problem
Hello Lustre Experts I am trying to solve a problem with very slow "ls" and other big amount of file operations but good overall read/write rates. We are running a small cluster of 3 OSSs with 9 OSTs, 1MDS (with SSD MDT) and currently two clients. All server nodes are centos 5.2 with lustre 1.8.1 while the clients are centos 5.4 with lustre 1.8.3. All components are networked with DDR

Setting up a lustre zfs dual mgs/mdt over tcp - help requested
Hi all, Here is the situation: I have 2 nodes MDS1 , MDS2 (10.0.0.22 , 10.0.0.23) I wish to use as failover MGS, active/active MDT with zfs. I have a jbod shelf with 12 disks, seen by both nodes as das (the shelf has 2 sas ports, connected to a sas hba on each node), and I am using lustre 2.4 on centos 6.4 x64 I have created 3 zfs pools: 1. mgs: # zpool

Lustre Solution Delivery
What is the process for integrating a Lustre+SAMFS solution into an existing customer environment. The plan is to have CRS build the Lustre component, but Lustre and SAMFS will need to configured and integrated into the customer computing environment. I am very familiar with the SAMFS integration, but not Lustre integration. Do we have resources in PS to provide the integration? Is this

Vector of functions
Hi there, I have a vector of some functions e.g. #-----------------------------# f.1 <- function(a) { return( a ); } f.2 <- function(a) { return( 1 - (tanh(a))^2 ); } f.3 <- function(a) { return( 1 / (1+exp(-a)) * (1 - (1 / (1+exp(-a)))) ); } func.l <- c(f.1, f.2, f.3); #-----------------------------# and would like to calculate the output value of a function in the vector,

Anyone using fuse and/or sshfs under Centos 4.4?
Hi A search of google failed to show any prebuilt rpms for sshfs and fuse. I do see that fuse support is in 2.6.14 kernel which isn't a whole lot of help. Before I dive headlong into this has anyone successfully built fuse/sshfs against Centos 4.4. If so would you share your experience? Thanks Daveh

[LLVMdev] Code ownership for PS4 target
As you might have noticed, we’ve begun landing patches to open source the Sony PlayStation®4 system compiler. Many more are coming. I’d like to propose that I be named code owner for this platform. I already have this role internally for open source. It feels necessary to establish as part of the process to handle external contributions. ----------------------------------------- Alex Rosenberg

Hi, I tried to compile lustre-client 2.0.0.1 on RHEL4 with kernel 2.6.9-89.0.28.EL-x86_64 and I got 3 errors and 1 warning during the compile. The compile is executed with -Werror option, and it fails in all 4 cases * Error: lustre_compat25.h CC [M] /usr/src/redhat/BUILD/lustre-2.0.0.1/lustre/fid/fid_handler.o In file included from

No space left on device on not full filesystem
Hello, We have running lustre 1.8.1 and have met "No space lest on device" error when uploading 500 Gb small files (less then 100 Kb each). The problem seems to depends on the number of files. If we remove one file, we can create one new file, even with Gb size; but if we haven''t remove something we can''t create even very little file, as an example using touch

Interested in contributing to Lustre
Hi all, I am a grad student at Carnegie Mellon University. I had my course work in advanced storage systems in previous semester, and I am interested to work on Lustre. I prefer to take up a project that could be completed in a duration of a month or two. Since I am a novice w.r.t. my familiarity with Lustre code base, I seek your opinion to choose a project from the list:

kernel-2.6.18-8.1.14 + lustre 1.6.4.2 + OFED 1.2
We seemed to have it a stumbling block when building with the above (supported) versions. Our process... 1. Start with stock rhel5 2.6.18-8.1.14 source tree 2. Configure InfiniBand support out of the the kernel (we will build OFED separately). 3. Apply the 1.6.4.2 kernel patches to the kernel source. 4. Build the kernel. 5. Build OFED 1.2 against the patched kernel 6. Build Lustre using
