List of Levels for all Factor variables
Hi, I want to get a clean succinct list of all levels for all my factor variables. I have a dataframe that's something like #1 below. This is just an example subset of my data and my actual dataset has 70 variables. I know how to narrow down my list of variables to just my factor variables by using #2 below (thanks to Bert Gunter). I can also get list of all levels for all my factor

Chi Square with two tab-delimited text files
Hi, I want to do a chi square test and I have two tab delimited text files with Expected and Observed values to compare. Each file contains only the values and are 48 rows by 116 columns. I have managed to do something with them, but I don't think it is right as I got a p value of 1. In this case I used the read.table() function to read the values from the files. But I don't know if

choicemodelr is misbehaving under R3.0
Hi John (and other authors of ChoiceModelR package), I am experiencing a weird thing when using the function choicemodelr under R3.0.1. Before I updated to R3.0, I had used choicemodelr unde R2.15. It was always as fast or faster than exactly the same task in Sawtooth software. Now, I've tried to run it under R3.0.1. It seems to be doing the job. But something is slowing it down dramatically.

Inconsistent results between caret+kernlab versions
I'm using caret to assess classifier performance (and it's great!). However, I've found that my results differ between R2.* and R3.* - reported accuracies are reduced dramatically. I suspect that a code change to kernlab ksvm may be responsible (see version 5.16-24 here: http://cran.r-project.org/web/packages/caret/news.html). I get very different results between caret_5.15-61 +

max_prepared_stmt_count exceeded using RODBC + 64-bit win7
Hi I am running R2.15.2 64-bit on Windows 7, using RODBC 1.3-6, MySQL5.5.20, MySQL Connector 5.5.2 - these are the latest 64-bit versions AFAIK. sqlQuery and sqlSave work fin as expected, but in a long session with a few sqlSave() calls, I get an error, for example: Error in sqlSave(channel = channel, dat = USArrests[, 1, drop = FALSE], : HY000 1461 [MySQL][ODBC 5.2(w)

Problem with makePSOCKcluster R3.0.1
Hello, I am using function makePSOCKcluster to make parallel computation on 3 EC2 Amazon machines. I have a passwordless between machines and ssh is correct. In the R 2.15.1 release this function works correctly. Installing R 3.0.1 on my EC2 machines makePSOCKcluster does not produce the cluster. If I run the function with outfile="" option, I obtain this message Error in

Byte code compile not helpful in R3.0.2
I had a bunch of examples of byte code compiles in something I was writing. Changed to 3.0.2 and the advantage of compiler disappears. I've looked in the NEWS file but do not see anything that suggests that the compile is now built-in. Possibly I've just happened on a bunch of examples where it does not help, but experiences of a year ago do not seem to remain valid now. Just wondering if

Using method = "aic" with pspline & survreg (survival library)
Hi everybody. I'm trying to fit a weibull survival model with a spline basis for the predictor, using the survival library. I've noticed that it doesn't seem to be possible to use the aic method to choose the degrees of freedom for the spline basis in a parametric regression (although it's fine with the cox model, or if the degrees of freedom are specified directly by the user),

SpreadLevelPlot for more than one factor
Dear Sir, Many thanks for your reply. I have a query. I have a whole set of distributions which should be made normal / homoscedastic. Take for instance the warpbreaks data set. We have the following boxplots for the warpbreaks dataset: a. boxplot(breaks ~ wool) b. boxplot(breaks ~ tension) c. boxplot(breaks ~ interaction(wool, tension)) d. boxplot(breaks ~ wool @ each level of tension) e.

SpreadLevelPlot for more than one factor
Dear Ashim, I?ll address your questions briefly but they?re really not appropriate for this list, which is for questions about using R, not general statistical questions. (1) The relevant distribution is within cells of the wool x tension cross-classification because it?s the deviations from the cell means that are supposed to be normally distributed with equal variance. In the warpbreaks data

glht for aov with Error() term
Dear all, glht (from the multcomp package) needs a term and a model component in it's fitted model. In fitted models from e.g. repeated measurements ANOVAs I do not find neither model nor term. Is it possible to build together a model and term component myself, so that glht will work for repeated measurements ANOVAs? If so, how would I do that? Best regards, Michael Zehetleitner

restricting pairwise comparisons of interaction effects
I'm interested in restricting the pairwise comparisons of interaction effects in a multi-way factorial ANOVA, because I find comparisons of interactions between all different variables different to interpret. For example (supposing a p<0.10 cutoff just to be able to use this example): > summary(fm1 <- aov(breaks ~ wool*tension, data = warpbreaks)) Df Sum Sq Mean Sq F

Extracting the name of an object into a character string and vice versa
I am still struggling to map a character string to an object name and vice versa in R. I thought the as.name() function might work, but observe the following behaviour ... > attach(warpbreaks) > levels(tension) [1] "L" "M" "H" > levels(as.name("tension")) NULL > objectname<-as.name("tension") > objectname tension >

How Rcmdr or na.exclude blocks TukeyHSD
Dear R-Helpers, I was calling the TukeyHSD function and not getting confidence intervals or p-values. It turns out this was caused by missing data and the fact that I had previously turned on R Commander (Rcmdr). John Fox knew that Rcmdr sets na.action to na.exclude, which causes the problem. If you have this problem, you can either exit Rcmdr before calling TukeyHSD or you can set na.action to
