Centos 6.2 x64 after GRUB menu, black screen with blinking cursor
Dear CentOS users, I installed CentOS 6.2 x64 in a Sun Fire X4450 machine, it has 4 disks and I configured them to be a single volume (no RAID). The installer sees the volume perfectly, its 570Gb. I created two ext3 partitions, /dev/sda1 and /dev/sda2. In the logs I see they are formated correctly. All the files are installed. Then when I reboot, I get to the GRUB menu. Choose the first and only

CentOS 6 updating policy
I am migrating from debian to RHEL (CentOS) and I am wondering how the CentOS 6 updating system works. Suppose I install CentOS 6.1 now. Suppose in 8 months CentOS 6.2 is released. Now I issue a yum update, so my system will be updated to CentOS 6.2, or I will have an updated 6.1 ? What if I have been issuing yum update very day just to be sure there are no packages with urgent security bugs

systemctl reboot -- server not accessible after reboot
Hi, Such a simple problem, but I can't figure out the cause. Supermicro server with a Xeon E3-1200 cpu. 1U entry level item. Using CentOS 7 from ~$root --- systemctl reboot Server disconnects my ssh connection and never comes back up. Go to the server and the power is on but the server is not accessible by ssh. When I connect a monitor and keyboard --- non-responsive. It's like

Centos 4 and Supermicro ICH7R
Hi: I've tried to install centos 4.3 in a raid array, setuped on bios as mode "Adaptec". The chip is ICH7R but centos always sees 2 drives instead of the array that I create. I've contacted Supermicro support and they gave me this link ftp://ftp.supermicro.com/driver/SATA/Adaptec_ICH7R/Linux/Redhat/ , but the disk drivers I tried to use with centos 4.3 did not work, saying that

Supermicro & Boot Failures with DVD Centos 6.2
Eve.8ryone, I have had a SuperMicro machine running Centos 5.8 that had been progressively updated with yum-cron from a 5.0 CD install. I upgraded the SuperMicro with more memory, switched out the CD with a DVD and tried to boot to the Centos x64 6.2 dvd. My plan was to test the memory before I added the hard drives, but I could not I could not get the machine to boot from the disc. I also

Automatical download of needed packages from CRAN
I write a package foo which requires a package bar (from CRAN) to work. So in the DESCRIPTION file I write Depends: bar. I would like it to be so that when one installs foo, then it is automatically checked whether bar is installed, and if not then bar is also installed at the same time. I remember having seen packages which do so, but I can not figure out the mechanism 'Depends: bar' in

Supermicro AOC-SASLP-MV8
Bouncing a thread from the device drivers list: http://opensolaris.org/jive/thread.jspa?messageID=357176 Does anybody know if OpenSolaris will support this new Supermicro card, based on the Marvell 88SE6480 chipset? It''s a true PCI Express 8 port JBOD SAS/SATA controller with pricing apparently around $125. If it works with OpenSolaris it sounds pretty much perfect. --------------

SAS Controllers
Hi All, first time post so please excuse any blunders We are specifying two servers using supermicro X7DBE+ MB and want to add on a SAS controller for Raid 10. We want to use the CentOS 4.4 X86_64 distro. We are currently considering an Intel CC SRCSAS144E SAS Raid Controller for the servers using 4 Fujitsu 147 GB SAS HDD, and a Adaptec SASC RAID 4805 8-port for the server using 6 Fujitsu

ACPI Warning, then hang
I'm getting the following warning, and then the system locks: ACPI Warning: Incorrect checksum in table [(bunch of spaces)] - 0x29, should be 0x48 Here's a pic: http://db.tt/O6dxONzI System is on a SuperMicro C7X58 motherboard that I just upgraded to BIOS 2.0a, which I would like to stay on if possible. I tried adjusting all the ACPI related BIOS settings without success. Bryce

Buggy SATA detection w/CentOS5 + Intel H6300ESB?
I've been handed a Supermicro system that is using the Intel? H6300ESB Serial ATA Controller (Supermicro P4SCI motherboard). When I install CentOS5, everything seems to work OK, but it has absolutely horrid disk performance. Upon further inspection, it seems that the SATA disks are being treated as legacy IDE devices using PIO. Gah.... Has anyone else had this problem? I recall having

Asterisk on Dell blade servers
We've been asked to quote for a large cluster running Asterisk and our ITSP in a box product. The system will be SIP throughout, with mixed codecs. We're considering using Dell blade servers, 1855 or similar, on the grounds that we normally use Dell machines and they work well, but we need higher rack density. Has anyone used these? Any feedback on whether they're

ZFS storage server hardware
Hi, I know (from the zfs-discuss archives and other places [1,2,3,4]) that a lot of people are looking to use zfs as a storage server in the 10-100TB range. I''m in the same boat, but I''ve found that hardware choice is the biggest issue. I''m struggling to find something which will work nicely under solaris and which meets my expectations in terms of hardware.

Centos 7.0 and mismatched swap file
Everyone, I am putting together a new mail server for our firm using a SuperMicro with Centos 7.0. When performed the install of the os, I put 16 gigs of memory in the wrong slots on the mother board which caused the SuperMicro to recognize 8 gigs instead of 16 gigs. When I installed Centos 7.0, this error made the swap file 8070 megs instead of what I would have expected to be a over 16000

Fan speed control on Supermicro X8DAL board with CentOS
Hello folks, I'm having a difficult time trying to figure out why the CPU cooling fans run at full speed on my Supermicro X8DAL-3 motherboard. There doesn't seem to be any variable speed (the fans are PWM compatible) ... they either idle at almost nothing, or suddenly burst into a high-pitched scream that gets my ears bleeding after a few seconds. Once they jump to warp-10, they
