OpenRico LiveGrid or similar
Hi Has anyone used OpenRico''s "on-demand listbox" LiveGrid or something similar in a Rails app already? How well does it behave? I''m asking this because I need a scrollable list but the number of records in the table could be well above 5000. In the past I''ve used similar "on-demand fetchings" in desktop apps and it was a real blessing (the

Site Launch w/ Scriptaculous
Hey all, We (http://www.weblinc.com) just launched a new site in which I have used the scriptaculous library in a few places. check out http://www.smashbox.com scriptaculous was used in creating the zoom controls on the product detail pages, and was also used with the sliding paginator on the product browse pages (some serious reworking is in progress on that, but it works). its also being

Reseting a select box
Hello, is there a way to reset a select box to it''s default value? Or do I habe to use update() on the select box to empty it and then add all the options again? IE5.5
Hey Rails, Prototype and Scriptaculous peoples. I love all three frameworks, my only concern is Prototypes lack of support in IE5.5 Is there really too much of the framework that IE5.5 can''t handle or is simply a design decision not to support it? I want to push web standards forward, but unfortunately there''s simply stil too many IE5.5 users to ignore. The incorrect box model

[prototype] Selector class fails on selector strings with spaces
I just ran across this bug when trying to re-create Ben Nolan''s behaviour.js with prototype and was wondering if anyone had fixed it before I went re-inventing the wheel :) Thanks! -Jeremy -- Jeremy Kitchen ++ kitchen-RA8HwDor7flnDGu+y90WmgC/G2K4zDHf@public.gmane.org http://ipaction.org/ -- defend your rights to fair use _______________________________________________

reloading fragments of pages
Hello, I have a treeview, that works with scriptaculous in order to load the nodes dynamically. I also have in the main part of the page, a table with the list of elements. The lists of elements can be drag-dropped on the treeview in order to move them around (they are also draggable on other parts of the page) I need though, to refresh the treeview to reflect changes when a folder was moved

event:selectors VS Behavior
This looks quite nice at first glance.. http://encytemedia.com/event-selectors/ I would love to hear some of your comments pro or con on how this compares to Behavior. ______________________________________________________________________ Alex Duffield . prototype: leak with Element.extend
Had a nasty memory leak that was seriously slowing down the browser and eating up a couple megabytes every reload. I was using: $$(''.dyntable'').each(function(elm) { new DynTable(elm) }); To set up my behavior, but discovered that just running: $$(''.dyntable''); Caused the memory leak all by itself. The fix I found for it was to change Element.extend to a

iframe ... does it have an innerHTML ?
If I dynamically create a hidden iframe, how could I add a document in a string to that element? e.g., var sDocument = ''<html><head></head><body>Hello world.</body></html>''; I''ve tried several variations of appendChild, innerHTML, document.innerHTML, createTextNode. Argh! _______________________________________________

Executing custom effect for n seconds
Glad to see this list get going! I have a custom effect ''Pulse'' that basically does an opacity fade in/ out. I want to execute this effect with a custom duration. I''m looking for a consistent approach that is inline with script.alicio.us and Prototype. Is there a way to do something like this (pseudo code): Effect2.Pulse = function(element) { new

Protoype problem
Hey everybody, I encountered an interesting problem today. Here is what I have: I used the prototype function "Position.clone(src, target)" which actually copies the top, left, offsetWidth and offsetHeight from the src to the target. interestingly, my src-object had a css-styled border of 1px, and a total offsetWidth of 320px. my target-object had the same properties, but once I

extending prototype''s classes
Hi, I''m relatively new to javascript programming, and OOP in general, so please be nice to me ;) My question is: I''d like to extend the Form class in prototype to have a Disable function that will disable all of the fields in a form. I''ve already written a function to do this, but I''d like to include it in my own library so I can access it easily and also

Autocompletion not working in Konqueror
I''ve just had a look again at the autocompletion demo that Thomas put up at http://script.aculo.us/demos/ajax/autocompleter Unfortunately, in Konqueror (3.4.1) it doesn''t work at all. Not even an error is triggered. It does work nicely in Firefox. How about Safari? I don''t have the time right now to track this down systematically (maybe latter), but just from

Help please-draggable
I asked the other day about this problem but haven''t received a response. Trying again: I just downloaded 1.6 and can''t get a simple draggable to work, which is weird. I know it''s not my browser since the demos are working. Here is my simple code. I''ve also had the "new Draggable" between the select tags. Didn''t change anything.

prototype/script.aculo.us ecosystem
Recently errtheblog (http://errtheblog.com/) put up a nice post about jQuery. Putting aside all the assertions about cleaner code and fewer lines of code than with Prototype, the one thing that struck me from his (and others'') writing and from direct inspection is this: jQuery seems to have a more of an ecosystem surrounding it. That is, more plugins, widgets, locked-and-loaded

Autocomplete and Firefox
Having problems with the autocomplete on my linux box and firefox. When I use form tags it breaks, without form tags everything works fine. Exact copy of the example provided, but I added form tags.. The initial search and select works but then the box sort of "locks up" and I can''t change it at all, If I do try to type something nothing changes but a second later the whole

Question about $F()
Hi Guys, Maybe this is a stupid question, but I am confused at the moment. The $F() function is a handy shortcut to get the value of the an input field. So, doing something like $F(''name'') is equivalent to document.formname.name.value which is pretty cool. Now, what if I have 2 forms on the page, that same field name "name"? What would $F return? It does not take
