problem with setGroupGeneric from package methods
Hi, There seems to be a problem with setGroupGeneric() from package 'methods'. The symptoms are somewhat erratic, in the sense that small changes may lead to any of the following behaviours. 1.Package works without problems on Windows and installs on Linux but gives error when loaded with library(). 2.Package installs on both systems and gives error when loaded on any of them. 3.

unloadNamespace
It's probably because the first thing that unloadNamespace does is this: ns <- asNamespace(ns, base.OK = FALSE) If you call asNamespace("tseries"), it calls getNamespace("tseries"), which has the side effect of loading that package (and its dependencies). One way to work around this is to check loadedNamespaces() before you try to unload a package. -Winston On

unloadNamespace
In the documentation the closed thing I see to an explanation of this is that ?detach says "Unloading some namespaces has undesirable side effects" Can anyone explain why unloading tseries will load zoo? I don't think this behavior is specific to tseries, it's just an example. I realize one would not usually unload something that is not loaded, but I would expect it to do

Class not found when search in .onLoad
Hi, I am facing with a strange behaviour of isClass and extends when these are called in .onLoad in both R 2.12.1 and R 2.13.0. This is preventing my package from doing some object initializations at a proper place (i.e. in .onLoad). Suppose one defines two S4 classes in a package, and that one needs to check the inheritance between these two when loading the package (e.g. to validate slots

Bug report for sealClass() in Core-maintained package "methods"
Hello, I was just reminded from a comment in some code that I had submitted this bug report last year, but it does not appear to have been addressed in R 3.5.0. Can this please be fixed, or is there a specific reason that it cannot be addressed? Thanks, Adam From: Gower, Adam Sent: Monday, June 19, 2017 11:56 AM To: 'r-devel at r-project.org' Subject: Bug report for sealClass() in

unloadNamespace() does not address unevaluated promises in the S3 Methods Table
Given the extremely simple package at https://github.com/jimhester/testUnload, which includes only one S3 method 'print.object' the following code produces a lazy load error from a new R session (R-devel r69801) install.packages("testUnload", repos = NULL) library("testUnload") unloadNamespace("testUnload") install.packages("testUnload", repos =

speedbump in library
A isNamespaceLoaded() function would be a useful thing to have in general if we are interested in readable code. An efficient implementation would be just a bonus. Strange warnings when unloading packages with S4 classes
I've been seeing warnings when unloading packages. They can be seen with the shiny and sp packages, among others (this is on R 3.0.2). For example: > library(sp) > unloadNamespace('sp') Warning messages: 1: In FUN(X[[2L]], ...) : Created a package name, ‘2013-12-19 12:14:24’, when none found 2: In FUN(X[[2L]], ...) : Created a package name, ‘2013-12-19 12:14:24’, when none

[LLVMdev] Compiling "vmkit" on Ubuntu_x64 - Error: missing argument to --bindir
I am working on a project to port JRuby on Embedded systems. JRuby converts Ruby code to bytecode which is executed by any JVM. For this project I am testing performance of JRuby with various available JVMs. I have chosen ARM architecture. Does vmkit support ARM architecture? odd assignInNamespace / setGeneric interaction
The problem is not specific to redefining the q function, but to the interaction of assignInNamespace and setGeneric. The latter requires, roughtly, that the environment of the function being replaced by an S4 generic is (or is the descendent of) the environment in which it lives. E.g., the following demonstrates the problem % R --quiet --vanilla > assignInNamespace("plot",

[LLVMdev] Compiling "vmkit" on Ubuntu_x64 - Error: missing argument to --bindir
I don't know how JRuby works, maybe it uses some new feature that GNU Classpath does not provide. VMKit's openJDK version is unstable on 64 bits since package version 6b27. You can still use it for very small programs which does not need GC but that's all. It works fine on 32 bits. So you can try it on 32 bits or revert your java version to a previous one (< than 6b27) to test
