Digital cinema servers (the gadgets that feed the movie to the projector and sound systems) run on Linux. The movies are shipped to the theatre in an encrypted form and a key

Email not getting delivered (and a fix)
I just discovered that, ever since I updated this computer to kernel-2.6.32-431.3.1, it hasn't been forwarding outbound email.
I found this repeated in /var/log/maillog: "warning: relayhost configuration problem"
This computer is set up to relay outbound email via postfix to another computer on my network by name, whose name and IP address is specified in the /etc/hosts file.

It sounds like the next step would be to get on the horn with whoever wrote the pdf file(s) that you're using and ask them what the schmoo is going on.
Perhaps they could provide it to you in a format

problem on exceptional quit
Hi Frank,
Thanks for your prompt reply. The server is in my office. Because I tried a few computers, so it shouldn?t be a problem of Internet connection of the clients. I tried to ping the server, and it can accept all data. Is there a good way to check it?
It always worked well for centos 6.6 using the same server and the same internet connections (IP, cable etc). The problem came out while

CentOS 6.3 packages updates options without upgrading.
Thanks very much, understood. so, it seems, upgrading selected packages is
probably going to be fine except where the compatibility matters where it
would break all kinds of things. Something of such nature of request would
need to be internally tested by simply updating the selected packages, test
the applications previously running on 6.3 w/ these few selected 6.8
packages updates. It seems,

I've added dia to my repo nux-dextop.
BTW LibreOffice Draw can be used as well (with the added bonus that it can also do Visio files AFAIK).

Mysterious versioning reported by file command
I just noticed this, which doesn't actually seem to affect anything but does
create a mystery:
[frankcox at mutt temp]$ cat test.c

int main(void)

printf("Hello world\n");
return 0;
}
[frankcox at mutt temp]$ gcc -o test test.c

CentOS 6.3 packages updates options without upgrading.
The specs may have certain dependency on subset of 6.3 packages, but not
for all other packages/binaries, as I mentioned earlier. So, to keep
things rather intact, we would simply meet requirements by only updating
"selected packages only". And, for now, that should be considered
intermittent solution until we can safely land to a proper job as you
mentioned. So, would there be any

Intel Displayport on Centos 7
As long as you have the DisplayPort connection on your computer and you
have the proper cable to connect it to the monitor then it's no trouble. I
had been using dual DP monitors on my last work machine. Also, note that
sometimes the PC end is normal DisplayPort but sometimes it has a mini
DisplayPort connection. Just get the right cable and it should be as
simple as HDMI.

rsync backup to fileserver - mystery
that diff has /misc/misc/ in the second compare argument. Not sure if thats the exact command you have been entering or if you retyped it. If that is a good path or is rsync creating new ?misc? folders inside your original misc folder?

CentOS 6.3 packages updates options without upgrading.
Yes you would break all kinds of things. In a nutshell folks are saying
you are free to try but when it blows up...you better have a total backup
to restore the entire box. Your first priority should be getting whatever
is holding you back from proper system updates and security out of the way.

Thanks Frank and all.
Understood, but unfortunately, updating to latest version of CentOs 6 is
not the option in this specific situation, in stead, we are taking a look
into options of updating only hand picked packages on Centos 6.3 to
latest. Any other guidance is welcome and appreciated.

print job gui for remote access
Users on Machine A with rights to log into and run jobs on Machine B using ssh
want to be able to view and cancel print jobs on Machine B.
This is easily accomplished via the commandline with lpq and lprm, but is there
a GUI that I can give them? I have them running things like scribus using
launchers like "ssh -X machineb scribus" and would like to provide similar
functionality for

This actually bring up an interesting question that I've not yet seen an answer to:
What is the equivalent of runlevel 1 on Centos 7 and how do you get there?
