[RFC] aptitude & BTRFS slowness
Hi all,
I suffered a lot for the terrific performance of aptitude on a BTRFS filesystem.
I don''t think that BTRFS is a slow filesystem, but it seems that some aptitude
(or dpkg) patterns are capable to highlight the btrfs slowness in some corner
case.
In order to alleviate this problem, I wrote a small script which calls
aptitude with the LD_PRELOAD libeatmyadata library. And now I

WINS capabilities
I have set up SAMBA on AIX 4.2 and can attach to NT shares and vice versa. I
acquired and configured SAMBA for basically one reason, that being to gain
WINS client capabilities for AIX. Right now it's not working as expected,
though.
I am implementing Tivoli, and Tivoli requires a bidirectional name to address
resolution in order to register the managed node agent with the Framework. I

Samba 3.6.0 compile errors in utils/net_idmap_check.c
Gday samba fans.
I am doing something no longer fashionable, I am compiling Samba 3.6.0 on
Tru64 Version 5.1A using the Compaq C compiler:
Compaq C V6.4-014 on Compaq Tru64 UNIX V5.1A (Rev. 1885)
Compiler Driver V6.4-215 (sys) cc Driver
I also tried gcc but I got a lot farther with DEC-C... All the way to
utils/net_idmap_check.c where it says:

rsync 2.5.5 Tru64 5.1
Hi,
I am trying to compile rsync 2.5.5 on a Tru64 box. I downloaded
configure.in revision 1.148, which I believe is the correct fix for the
getaddrinfo problem; however I still have errors compiling rsync. Also I
had to change line 22 in options.c from #include "popt.h" to #include
"popt/popt.h". Any suggestions or ideas?

Problems running apps from Samba 2.0.0 share on NT 4.0
Ever since I upgraded from Samba 1.9.18 to 2.0.0, I've been
having problems with applications started from a Samba share dying
silently, or with an Illegal Instruction message, on NT 4.0
Workstation. Since the only configuration change has been the Samba
upgrade, that would seem to be the orgin of the problem. Below is my
smb.conf file, in case I have something configured (or not configured)

Active Directory Capacity?
Hi list,
I am wondering if there is a theoretical maximum for an Active Directory
forest, according to Samba or MS? My concern comes from this.
We are piloting AD with Samba 4 at a couple of our schools. My thought was
to eventually get the top-level forest hosted at our central office, then
setup each school as a "site" with its own AD DC at the site, configured to
use each

Samba & Tivoli Storage Mgr (TSM) Integration Query ???
All,
Can anyone confirm that Samba/Solaris will integrate with TSM (Tivoli
Storage Manager) when deployed into a Wintel client environment.
ie. Solaris/Samba as a TSM client
- we need to be sure that the ACL's will be maintained correctly via a
TSM backup/restore (full or partial)
Or confirm this does not work, which is not what we want to hear - but
the truth will suffice.
Many thanks,

[LLVMdev] Next Cambridge LLVM Social
Hi all,
A bit ahead of schedule, I want to announce the next LLVM social on the
21st October (Wed), because it'll be on a different place:
The Tivoli, Chesterton Road
http://www.jdwetherspoon.co.uk/home/pubs/the-tivoli
It's not as close to the train station as The Cambridge Blue, but it's not
too far either. David Chisnall tells me it's a much nicer pub, and much
cheaper than

[LLVMdev] Cambridge LLVM Social (new place!)
Just a reminder, the Cambridge LLVM Social is this Wednesday, 7:30pm
at the The Tivoli, Chesterton Road:
http://www.jdwetherspoon.co.uk/home/pubs/the-tivoli
This pub is a bit further away from the train station, but has been
highly praised by David, so if you don't like it, blame him. If people
are interested in coming pre-Christmas, we can try a fancier pub in
December (but that might

Problem using Tivoli Provisioning Manager for OS deployment on XEN VMs
Hello,
We are currently testing the compatibility of our software with XEN guests
and seem to have hit a limitation of the virtualization kernel of XEN.
In order to orchestrate the automated provisioning operations, our
software uses a small proprietary protected-mode kernel that takes control
at every boot to dispatch between the various actions to perform during an
OS install. Our code

[LLVMdev] XMas Cambridge LLVM Social
Hi guys,
We're doing a special XMas social next week (12th Dec), same time,
same pub (Tivoli) and same time. Why special? No idea, just because
it's December.
Anyway, not many people will come, we know, but we're going to go
anyway, since the beer is cheap and we have nothing better to do on a
Wednesday evening. Oh, and folks have discounts on beer, to make them
even cheaper.

Running sshd with Privilege Seperation drops connection on password change
Hi folks,
I came across this issue on both stock CentOS(v6.4) and Ubuntu(14.04 LTS) and was wondering if any of you have seen it.
As far as I can tell this seems like a day-1 bug to me.
PROBLEM:
If I expire a linux user's password (passwd -e <user>) and then log in via ssh, it will prompt you for a password change.
On changing the password successfully, sshd will drop the connection
