7.1 new install halts on BTX error
I upgraded my 7.0 system to 7.1-RELEASE with freebsd-update only to find
that it no longer boots correctly, instead crashing with a BTX backtrace.
If I break to the loader prompt and use 'ls /boot', I also get a
backtrace.
A new install of 7.1 on this hardware using a separate SCSI card and drive
array also leads to a BTX backtrace. I have copied this below as the first

BTX halted on boot
Hi
We are experiencing a problem with one of our FreBSD 6.2 machines. The
machine has been running fine for months until we had to reboot it. Now
it doesn't boot anymore. After the boot loader we get what looks like a
register dump:
FreeBSD/i386 boot

boot: /boot/kernel/kernel\

One more clue, maybe...
The stack dump message is white text on black background. Right
above the stack dump message, still in yellow-on-blue from the PXELINUX
settings, is the text:

FreeBSD, BTX halted
Hi,
I try to full virtualize FreeBSD, and it does not boot.
I made a VNC screenshot, attached, and also made a
joint screenshot. I know about the bug, I am going to enforce (+1) that I also
encounter the bug.
Would you know any workaround?

Format problem in previous mail. RE: Closer with pxeboot, but n ot all there...
Hi again...
The text under "BTX loader..." should appear as a block where each
line is 56 characters long. "BTX halted" is on its own line.
Apologies for my mailer...

Polycom Spectralink 8002 Configuration
I have a new Polycom Spectralink 8002 and am having trouble with the
configuration or the unit but I can't see what's wrong. The unit does
not seem to even attempt to register with the Asterisk proxy but I can
make calls to it. I have viewed the syslog from the device which it
will actually write to the asterisk server so I know it can be reached.
I have also run a sip debug and

Old machine -
Hi guys
Can anyone give me any reason why BX should fail - tryig to
install FreeBSD 4.7 on an old machine from CDROM. The
machine loads a very old version of FreeBSD from hard drive
(password long forgotten) so it seems to be running OK - it
auto loads X windows - so the nachine seems to be running
fine.
Here is the output that I do not understand ;-( :

Loading a FreeBSD 10 VM on QEMU-KVM..
I was trying to load a FreeBSD 10 VM on my CentOS 6.4 machine, and it keeps
hanging and not completing the boot. I have FBSD 9.x VM's running just
fine, but if I try and load 10.x it's a no go.

bootstrapping vinum root
Well, colleagues, I'm stuck a bit.
I tried many different ways to setup system with vinum root (the only
reference I found yet besides old "bootstrapping vinum" article is Joerg's

I failed. I have 4-stable system set up at ad0, and tried to set up pair of

More info about split-second message. RE: run FreeBSD "pxeboot" from pxelinux.0?
Hello...
In the split-second before the reboot, I can see that the pxeboot.0
process is indeed started-- pxeboot gets out just over 2 lines of text
before the reboot occurs.
So it's not a "ready" message.
The text in question is (without *'s):

Problem with /boot/loader
Hello,
I have a problem with loader. I recently upgraded from 6_rel to 7_rel.
Now when I install world there is a problem booting.
Here is what I do:
cd /usr/src
make buildworld
make buildkernel KERNCONF=BLACK
make installkernel KERNCONF=BLACK
At this point I can reboot and all is good. After boot I install the new world:
cd /usr/src
mergemaster -p
reboot into single user mode
cd /usr/src

Closer with pxeboot, but not all there...
Hello...
With syslinux pre7, I am consistently getting what looks like a
stack dump out of the FreeBSD loader.
I have seen this behavior from pxeboot before. Maybe once out of
every fifty or so runs of pxeboot, I would see an error message like the one
below, but it was both rare and inconsistent. Now I am getting this message
every time pxelinux invokes pxeboot:

FreeBSD boot loader on VT-x based Xen system
Folks --
I''m trying to run FreeBSD 6.0 on a VT-x based Xen system. I''m
experiencing a problem where the boot loader is crashing before the
FreeBSD kernel (proper) is loaded.
The sequence of operations is that the VMX domain is constructed, the
BIOS is executed, GRUB loads, I type the instructions to load FreeBSD
(a boot loader) and that code begins to execute and then

[Kerberos] Error at Handbook?
Hi!
I'm quite new to the list, but searching the archive and PRs didn't
show me anything on the matter.
According to FreeBSD Handbook (14.8.2 Setting up a Heimdal KDC) one
should config DNS server by adding:
-----
_kerberos IN TXT EXAMPLE.ORG.
-----
This doesn't work. DNS servers returns: text = "EXAMPLE.ORG.".
This is right, because RFC 1035 allows up to

USB Boot
I noticed that the Supermicro X9SCL has a USB type-a port right on the
motherboard.

Has anyone used a port like this to boot the core OS and used the
physical drives for OpenVZ and KVM containers? I figure a 64GB thumb
drive would work. Anyone done this or will a USB thumb drive not
stand up too the load? Seems much

regression: msk0 watchdog timeout and interrupt storm
Hi Yonghyeon and All,
>From time to time I use a notebook and boot FreeBSD from USB
stick. FreeBSD 9.2-i386 works OK. So I tried to use
FreeBSD 10.0-i386 BETA2 and the network adapter works for
some 10-15 seconds and then stops with diagnostic message
"msk0:watchdog timeout". I've found similar case at
freebsd-current@ with no workaround. Yes, there is an
interrupt storm as well.
