Monitoring Network traffic of DomU
Dear All.
I have set up a Xen testbed on a computer.(Dom0 use debian lenny)
I would like to know the possible ways to monitor the network traffic of
DomU''s from Dom0.

Xen Dom0 performance reporting/monitoring
Hi All,
Debian Lenny, Xen 3.2.1
Apologies if this has been covered many times before, but I''m unsure how
to go about this.
I want to obtain stats from my dom0, IO, cpu etc over time to see if I''m
getting any load peaks or if my hardware could handle more domU''s. I''m
thinking of something similar to sar which gives you 15 minute averages
across the day.

Getting the page fault count for domU
Hi
How do we get the number of page faults done by a guest in a scheduling
epoch?
Assuming only one VCPU per guest, can I get it from vcpu_info[]?
I hope this is not a vey trivial question :)
thanks

Segmentation Faults on DomU
Hi All,
I am seeing strange segmentation faults on DomU after I install gcc (
or for that matter any s/w with yum).
I am using PV linux images.
- I am using the source for xen 3.0.4 from Xensource and I built Xen +
Dom0 from source, and booted Dom0.
- I then downloaded the fedora6 file system images from jailtime.org
and booted the DomU using the kernel from the step above.

very slow I/O performance in domU
I''ve got a Debian Lenny Dom0 with Debian''s 2.6.26 Xen paravirt_ops kernel
and a Debian Lenny DomU. xen-hypervisor is Debian''s 3.2.1 package. The
dom0 has two dual core Opteron CPUs without hardware virtualisation
support.
In the domU I/O performance is very bad. In the dom0, I get about 46 MB/s:
# dd if=/dev/zero of=/root/zeroes bs=20M count=20

Xen DomU with high IOWAIT and low disk performance (lvm raid1)
Hello list!
My setup:
Dom0: Debain 5.0.3 with xen-hypervisor-3.2-1-i386 (2.6.26-2-xen-686)
DomU: Ubuntu 8.04 2.6.26-2-xen-686
System is running on two hard drives mirrored with raid1 and organized
by LVM. Dom0 and DomU are running on logical volumes.
Partitions for DomUs are connected via ''phy:/dev/lvm/disk1,sda1,w'' for
example.
Here are some scenarios I testet, where you

how to debug slow HDD performance in Windows 2003 domU ?
Hi
I''ve recently setup CentOS 5.1 x64, with a Windows 2003 Web x64 domU and
assigned 1 CPU & 1GB RAM to it.
Today, which installing something in Windows, I notice that it takes
ages to install a program. Running xm top, it doesn''t seem like it''s
running out of RAM or CPU, and checking Windows Task Manager, I can see
it consumes only 2 - 6% CPU, and 127MB RAM in

Putting X into DomU?
Hi, I am not so familiar with Xen. So I need help. I have put Xen (3.2) and
XenoLinux (2.6.18.8) into Fedora8.
After that I have created a Debian-Etch DomU image using Xen-tools. I used
the role scripts to put xdm functionality into it. With only this I tried to
boot the domU image, but got some segmentation fault error while booting the
domU. So following the direction in

Freenas domU network performance issue
Hi guys,
I''m running a freenas domU (FreeBSD 8.3 based, ZFS v28, 2 vcpus mapped to
the same HT capable core) to serve storage for all purpose including other
domUs running on the same host. I did some study to understand how well it
works and the result is kind of confusing.
In summary, the network performance between domains on the same host is
worse than expected. And NFS service to

poor network performance on domU
Hi all,
I recently started with Xen (3.1.0) on my new server running Ubuntu
Gutsy (7.10) and I''m experiencing very poor network performance on my
domU''s.
Since my colo provider offers me a /28 of routed public IPs next to
one interconnection IP to their routers, I built a Xen configuration
as described in http://www.debian-administration.org/articles/360 (a

Save and restore DomU (hvm) on Dom0 restart. CentOS 5.5 + Xen 3.4.3
What are the settings that I must specify to have DomU be saved and then
automatically started on reboot of the physical server?
In my /etc/sysconfi/xendomains it points to a save folder (which does not exist)
My configuration files are located at /vm/cfg/vm-xxxx/vm-xxxx.xen
In my config file I have:

on_reboot = ''restart''

howto bring a soundcard into a domU
Hi @all,
I have many domU on my server and they work fine, some of them have their
own NICs with the PCI param in the config.
Now I try to bring a soundcard for asterisk into a new domU and have the
following trouble:

PCI: Enabling device 0000:00:00.0 (0000 -> 0001)

Help with b97 HVM zvol-backed DomU disk performance
Hi Folks,
I was wondering if anyone has an pointers/suggestions on how I might increase disk performance of a HVM zvol-backed DomU? - this is my first DomU, so hopefully its something obvious
Running bonnie++ shows the DomU''s performance to be 3 orders of magnitude worse than Dom0''s, which itself is half as good as when not running xVM at all (see bottom for bonnie++ results)

Reg: Throughput b/w domU & dom0
Hi all,
I used netperf to measure throughput between dom0 & domU.
The throughput between dom0 -> domU was 256.00 Mb/sec
domU -> dom0 was 401.15 Mb/sec.
The throughput between dom0 & domU seems to be very asymmetry. To my
surprise the throughput between domU -> dom0 is more. The value which I
specified are consistent values. Is

Monitoring Xen with Zabbix..
Is anyone using Zabbix to monitoring Xen at the dom0 level?
Right now I have the Zabbix agent running in each domU but I would like to
get per domU and aggregated statistics from the hyper visor perspective.
I see a bunch of ''hard'' ways to collect these stats but first I want to make
sure there isn''t some ''magic pill'' for Zabbix / Xen that I might of

Add independent interface from domU to internal bridge?
Hi,
I have what I believe is an elementary problem, but I haven''t yet
figured out the solution.
Within my domU host, I have a bridge named "net1". There is no routing
performed between the real LAN and this bridge, intentionally. I have a
virtual machine that connects to the bridge. It seems to work fine, (in
fact I have several and I can bring them all up and they can

Lan connection interrupted on domU start
Dear List,
I use Debian Squeeze with Xen dom0 Kernel 2.6.32-5-xen-686,
the Xen Hypervisor 4.1 and qemu 4.0.
I have installed a HVM domU which contains
a Debian Squeeze standard installation.
Everytime I start the domU with the ''xm create ..'' command from dom0,
the eth0 lan connection gets interrupted and rebuilts.
When domU is booted, the dom0 system hangs every minute for

question about disk performance in domU
Hi all,
When I ran the experiments to compare an application''s execution time in both a domU (named cctest1)
and a native Linux machine (named ccn10), I noticed the application executes faster in domU. The
host of the domU (named ccn9) and ccn10 are two nodes of a cluster and they have same hardware
configurations. domU (cctest1) is created by exporting loopback files from dom0 on
