care of all the "Centos support for money".discussions/decisions.
Thanks for current and further indulgence.

OCZ Vertex3 SSD and LSI 9211-8i (mpt2sas)
I have a couple development servers running centos 6.3 64bit that have
LSI 9211-8i SAS2 controllers connected to a SAS2 backplane. these
work fine with SATA hard disks (populated with a bunch of 3TB SATA
drives)...
I'm trying to install a OCZ Vertex3 SSD on each of the two servers to do
some ssd caching tests... system sees the drive, so I do the following...

link() problem with dovecot-imapd
I'm having a few problems with dovecot-imapd (installed from debian
unstable) and am after some much needed help, all is set up and
configured, except for this final problem of when I try and move or copy
a message from one Maildir to another. I have the option
"maildir_copy_with_hardlinks = no" in the the dovecot.conf file but it
still seems to be trying to link() the file

Video Codecs, Video Editing and Wine
I am trying to get a video editing application, Edit Studio 4, working
in wine. I think I have been successful except for previewing the
project once it is assembled.
When I click on the "play" button for the preview, the initial frame
plays for about two seconds, the screen then goes black and then, at the
end of the preview, the last frame shows as a still image. I'm pretty

[LLVMdev] GSoC2012 proposal -- A new Back-end for polyhedral Optimization framework for LLVM (Polly)
Hi all,
My name is Qingrui Liu, a student at Sun Yat-sen University, China. I
have been working on high level synthesis project which is implemented as a
back-end of LLVM, in the last two years. When I want to use Polly to
generate parallel LLVM-IR from Polly-IR for me as input to my high level
synthesis tools at the begining of this year, I found that Polly's back-end
is not flexible and

loading shared libraries at startup
Dear people,
I compiled a bit of C code into a shared library cftpR.so, and load it
into R at runtime using
> dyn.load("cftpR.so")
This works fine, however when I put
.First <- function()
{
dyn.load("/home/faheem/research/cftp/cftpR.so")
}
(using absolute path names; also tried with just dyn.load("cftpR.so")),
into my .Rprofile to load the library at

very beginner's question
Begging the list's indulgence, an extremely dumb beginner's question. I've got 24 months' worth of numbers - ranging from 2 events per month, to 66 events per month. I want to take a stab at making a reasonable guess as to what the next year's data would be, approximately, i.e., based on the 24 months I've got, I want to be able to tell someone: "the 12 months after

I am new to R, so I beg your indulgence.

Error in if (grep("hellow", a)) { : argument is of length zero
What is the proper syntax to ensure that "wow2" gets printed?
Thank you for your help!

Hello Aki,
is it not possible in 2.2.36 or not possible at all?
I stumbled upon RFC 8314 *) and I found it a welcome option to enforce more modern protocols/ciphers.
IMAPS/SUBMISSIONS aren't used widely (at least to my knowlege, many postmaster used to configure IMAP+SUBMISSION and STARTTLS)

mmonit - Permission denied errot
Greetings,
I just downloaded the mmonit from mmonit.com site on my CentOS box
untarred-unizipped it.
As per the documentation, I dutifully typed
./bin/mmonit
and it is refusing to run. I am running this as root and SELinux is disabled.
running it with strace spews the following (in entireity):

# strace ./bin/mmonit

Martin,
I can't imagine using such a function myself, the reason being that as Bill and Duncan
point out, the correct answer depends on the situation.
But given the regular reappearance of this topic, I think that perhaps creation of your
function is a good idea, largely to function as a repository for the knowlege. If one
takes that view, then perhas the function has two optional

Density estimation: scale back for calendar time
Dear all:Request your indulgence. The econophysics gurus do this stuff all
the time: all their PDFs are smooth, with neat log x axis.
1. The kernel density estimate (KDE) function returns the empirical
probability density at 2^n points (min: 512). The big question is how do I
scale back the x-values (say, density$x) to x-values in terms of the
original dataset?
2. To give you a concrete idea, i

OT: 1gigabt nics
Begging indulgence of the list - asking here because due
to the higher likelyhood of getting an answer...
I have an application that often loses connection from one machine to
another when one (or more) of the machines has particular brands of
1gig nics, but which runs rock solid when on 10meg nics and some 1

Package development on Windows - latest guidance?
I would like to start building R packages under Windows XP. I
have programming experience and a minimal but working knowlege
of many Unix (-like) programming tools. The package functions
(for now) will be from R source, not C or Fortran.
I've installed Rtools, Perl, the MS hhc, and so on. I am
setting up a command shell with the correct PATH for building
packages. (The master Windows PATH
