OSX 10.6.4 error with -R option
Hi All,
I have had reports of problems with the -R option on OSX 10.6.4.
Just tested it myself and found this odd result:
When I run this
"dtruss -f path/to/rsync -aHAXNR --fileflags --force-change --protect-decmpfs --stats -v /Users/astrid/Documents/main.m /Users/astrid/Desktop/rrr
it produces the expected results with the relative folder paths in place

rsync and hfs+ compressed files damaged
Hi All,
I have been using rysnc 3.0.6 with Mike's rsync_3.0.6-hfs-compression_20091027.diff patch (as well as the standard osx patches) with good results. I discovered that clones done on 10.6 using this rsync cause some executable files ( the ones that are mostly compressed this way on osx ) to be damaged.
I did a test twice and indeed a handful of them are damaged. They all appear to be in

read/write problem - access denied - Red Hat 7.3 - XP connection
Hi there,
I successfully connected a windows XP machine with my samba server (red
Hat 7.3, samba version 2.2.3a) using SWAT.
Problem is that the files on the share aren't writeable as I would
expect. Instead, they're only visible as read only. What am I
overlooking.

OSX universal rsync
Hi All,
Well, we compiled pre9 on an intel Mac running Tiger and now it
does work on the machine. I need to see if that will now work on a PPC
mac though. Hopefully it will but I am wondering if there is a way to
compile and make a universal binary rsync for the Mac that will run on
both, from my PPC Mac. Itried that yesterday with

Problem installing B410P BRI card for asterisk
Dear all,
I know this is more a Digium hardware than an Asterisk issue. Already
posted a question at Digium, however also like to see whether anyone in the
Asterisk community has encountered the following situation:
I installed a Digium B410P BRI PCI card on my new asterisk server,
following the steps specified in the manual. I can see the PCI card is
available using the lspci command:

Qualitative factors
Hi,
I have some doubt about how qualitative factors are coded in R. For
instance, I consider a response y, a quantitative factor x and a qualitative
factor m at 3 levels, generated as follow :
y_c(6,4,2.3,5,3.5,4,1.,8.5,4.3,5.6,2.3,4.1,2.5,8.4,7.4)
x_c(3,1,3,1,2,1,4,5,1,3,4,2,5,4,3)
m_gl(3,5)

Making rsync compile under Mac OS X 10.3.9 with extended attributes
Somebody knows if it's possible to compile rsync (version 3 would be
great, but can be 2.6.x) under Mac OS X 10.3.9 with extended attributes?
Under OS 10.3.9 the Apple shipped rsync have not yet the -E argument
option. RsyncX have a double free bug that is annoying. "Q" rsync
2.6.6 with extended attributes binary only works on 10.4 and above.
I have tried to compile rsync

Filelocking Issue in 4.18.11
Hi folks,
we are running a clustered Samba Fileserver using CTDB with two public IPs. We observed the following (mis) behavior:
If user A with write permissions opens an excel file via public ip A and User B opens the same file via public ip B, both users get a Deny-Write lock on the same file and overwrite each others changes:

Filelocking Issue in 4.18.11
Hi Felix,

I guess the nodes end up using different combinations of dev/inode as
primary key for the locking.tdb record. Probably because the device
numbers differ on the nodes and you didn't fix this known issue with
GPFS with the fileid VFS

zfs diff performance
I had high hopes of significant performance gains using zfs diff in
Solaris 11 compared to my home-brew stat based version in Solaris 10.
However the results I have seen so far have been disappointing.
Testing on a reasonably sized filesystem (4TB), a diff that listed 41k
changes took 77 minutes. I haven''t tried my old tool, but I would
expect the same diff to take a couple of

creation date and OSX
Hi,
I've been using rsync (OSX Tiger now Leopard) to backup my home
folder daily using -a -H -A -X link-dest=dir to make incremental
backups. There was a problem though since many files especially
images, movies etc would be recopied each time instead of creating
hard links. I have been testing the pre5 release and found that it
seems to make hard links correctly for all files. I

very slow performance OS X xattrs
Hi All,
I am have been cloning drives with several versions of xcode and am seeing very long copy times. Perhaps just because of xcode I am noticing the change. Xcode of course has many files (400,000+) many xattrs and compressed bits, decmpfs… so only natural it will be slow but sometimes upwards of 1/2 hour to a fast drive for xcode. If I turn off Xattrs (leave out the X) it flies through in

delete not working with multiple source directories
Hello All,
I have lately heard from a couple of people that delete option was not deleting extraneous files on destination. This only happens when there are several source directories and at destination some show delete working and others not. I can not reproduce the issue so it is hard to pinpoint.
one example:
This is on OSX Mavericks running rsync 3.0.9 with the usual osx patches and

wrong transfer of app packages using --backup
Dear All,
I have been seeing some strange behavior using rsync 3.1.1 on OSX with the 3 standard patches applied when using the --backup and --backup-Dir options.
This works as expected on 3.0.9, moving any files on dest that are not on source to the backup folder. If no changes then the backup folder is not even created.

Mac OS X : "get_xattr_names: llistxattr("some/path/here", 1024) failed" error
Hi,
I'm trying to make a small script to get rid of Apple's TimeMachine. The aim is to backup the files of my company.
I setup a MacMini with a lot of storage attached to it. The MacMini connects every once in a while to our data server (XServe) through SSH and pulls the files that need to be saved (I'm using the --link-dest option to limit the amount of files transferred, and to keep
