Gnome-3 - can't drag menu items out
I've mostly been using MATE from epel when I use GUI access on CentOS7 because it works with x2go, but just noticed on a system with Gnome3 that I can't drag items out of the menus to the desktop or top bar for easier access. Is there some way to make the desktop space useful for more than pretty wallpaper? -- Les Mikesell lesmikesell at gmail.com

Desktop for newbies
Folks I'm about to set up a non-root user on a Centos=7 server that I control for a friend. It is in his home, so access is local. He's a refugee from the latest Windows 10 Upgrade. I'd like a suggestion as to which of the several possible graphical desktops to suggest to him and set up for him as his default. My aim is: - Allow him to try out Linux as an end-user - Let him

Desktop lag with CentOS7/Mate and high CPU usage
We have noticed significant desktop/UI lag on CentOS7 workstations using Mate when the CPU usage is high - i.e. the mouse pointer lags and moving windows (e.g. terminal windows) become jumpy (not smooth) We didn't see (or notice) this issue with CentOS6/Gnome2 This can easily be shown by running something like 'cpuburn' (https://patrickmn.com/projects/cpuburn/) and moving a

GNOME, numeric keypad & commas
Hi, Our local school has a 100 % CentOS network on servers and desktops. Until recently, we were using a highly customized Xfce desktop environment. Last week I decided to migrate all desktops from Xfce to GNOME, which went quite well. Now I have to sand down some rough edges. The secretary complained that she can't use the numeric keypad as before. She's using LibreOffice Calc a lot,

DND Issues in Gnome (GTK3 regression)
Does someone uses EL8 as a workstation (GUI) here? This bug is super annoying https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1808900 and it seems not to get addressed in the current branch. How could a developer work with a forced delay in the UI (since a year now). Solution maybe in 8.3 ETA end of the year? Seems that all RH employees uses OSX as workstation (my impression of the summit) :-)

Lost my menu options again - KDE messes with Gnome?
This was a problem I had a while back. I lost the "Preferences" menu item in my "Applications" menu in Gnome. After much discussion, the following commands got my "Preferences" menu item back, along with all the applications inside of it: rpm -e redhat-artwork redhat-menus --nodeps --allmatches yum install redhat-artwork redhat-menus But... WoW Launcher.exe crashs
Hi, I've got no problem playing World of Warcraft via the Wow.exe file, but Launcher.exe was always a little buggy, crashing from time to time. Problem is that today there's a new, small, patch, and Launcher.exe keeps crashing (the Launcher window shows up, then freeze), so i can't update and therefore, can't play. I use Archlinux (64bit) and wine 1.3.19. Crash log: Code:

Gnome-shell memory
So after much research it seems the only way to "help" the gnome-shell memory leak issue (I still see it on CentOS 7.6) is to do "export DISPLAY=:0.0; gnome-shell --replace" periodically. Perhaps in cron. Is that an OK solution for the LONG haul? Seems to knock the memory back down and box appears to keep running. Thanks, Jerry
