What on Centos is wiping out my eth0 IP address every 5 minutes?
QUESTION:
Why does my Centos 6.4 laptop keep wiping out my eth0 IP address?
SUMMARY:
a) I set the IP address of eth0
b) Everything works fine for 2 to 5 minutes
c) Then, that eth0 IP address is (somehow?) wiped out
I frustratingly repeat that abc process (over and over and over again)

wiping out data on a disk (no physical acess to the machine)
Hi,
I need to securely wipe out a disk on a remote machine, but I don't have access to that machine.
Therefore I cannot use the LiveCD+shred (or dd) combination.
Besides manually shreding known data files, I am wondering if there is a (free) tool that can be used in my case.
Thanks.

Wiping USB drives
Hi,
I have a dozen of drives, ranging from 10Gb to 200Gb. I want to
wipe them clean before donating them. I have a IDE/SATA to USB
converter that works. I can see the drives properly.
DBAN does not currently support external USB drive. Any other
alternatives?

Wireless connectivity issues
Hello,
I cannot establish Xserver connection via wireless subnet, while telnet is
working fine. There was a similar problem before in Shorewall over IPSEC
that Tom had fixed. Also, ping is working, but traceroute is not. Finally,
PuTTY gets a connectivity error after couple minutes of inactivity over
wireless when connected to the firewall/gateway.

wiping of unused space on ext3
Hello,
I was asked if it is possible to zero unused space in ext3 partition?
Users write to the server via Samba and are far from computer geeks so
teaching them to use some safedelete utility is quite impossible.
Is there some way or utility to wipe out all the data from unused space?
Thanks,

Problem with bridging/routing on three interfaces and DNAT
Hello all,
I have a problem with external access to a postfix mailserver running on my
firewall as a mail-gateway. My setup with shorewall 2.2.0 rc4 is as follows:

eth1 is zone loc - local network
eth2 is zone net - internet, fix ip adress
eth0 and eth1 are bridged

I made other tests. It's not a matter of Win98 versus WinXP, things
change passing from tftpd32 v310beta to v3.33. This version seems to
work fine, but the logs show problems. Here is the complete log with

multipath routing question
Hi All,
I have a linux router, configured with two internet connections and two
lan segments. I''ve setup multipath routing as described in
http://lartc.org/howto/lartc.rpdb.multiple-links.html
My problem (I think) is that somehow the router will randomly choose
incorrect routing paths for different hosts, for example:
on my workstation (192.168.1.20), I ssh to a server I have on an

dom0 eth0:0, eth0:1, eth0:2 network setup alias ips
I''ve got 3 different sets of public ips, each with it''s own static ips,
and default gateways, and only one physical ethernet port.
I''d like to be able to setup domUs that use the various ips, and route
through the gateway for that particular IP.
My problem is that when I setup these ip addresses as alias on eth:0,
only one set of ips/netmask/gateway will work.

There''s a tunnel (implemented with vtund on a tun interface with local

server without public ip and behind a router.
I wanted to make the second server visible to the world, so
