What is cached swap?
Isn't cached swap somewhat an oxymoron? Why cache virtual?
Am I misunderstanding this line from top?
Swap: 524120k total, 80760k used, 443360k free, 73448k cached

Hop from FC
I'm most likely going to make the hop from FC to CentOS in the
next several months, and wonder whether I should wait for CentOS 5.

Swap Considerations
I am considering installing CentOS 4.4, and am interested in
how best to set up. I have been using FC2 and helping administer
a Debian machine for a few years, but do not consider myself a
Linux guru.
My current set up uses a /swap partition which is 2x my memory
size
mem = 256 MB
$ sudo /sbin/fdisk -l

Jumping from FC2
Some time ago I installed FC2 at the request of an employer.
That contract ended over a year ago, and FC2 is an orphan.
I am gradually feeling more pressure to jump from FC2, and
do not wish to remain with the Fedora Core Project, as I
don't want to make installing and upgrading my machine into
a hobby. I already maintain a Debian machine for my girlfriend,
but I'm not sure I wish make

Updated livecd building tool
I updated the livecd-tools package from version 013 to 014. This update
introduces new interesting features like :
- support for Xen kernel
- built-in md5sum into the resulting LiveCD ISO
- a new API
See https://projects.centos.org/trac/livecd/wiki/GetToolset for
instructions on how to get this updated toolset.
Since it is a major update, I expect some bugs. I am looking for
feedback from

Howto reconfigure / rebuild CentOS 5 LiveCD
Hi,
I like to add some of my own utilities, etc.. to the CentOS 5.0 LiveCD.
IOW I am looking for a way to rebuild the livecd for specific purposes.
Can someone reach me handle where to start?
The only thing I've found so far is the out-of-the-box iso.
Thanks,
John

problem booting (Fedora) LiveCD ISO over PXELINUX
This is an issue I've researched quite a bit on bug lists, and looked
in the Syslinux Wiki for a way to do this, but haven't yet found a
solution.
1) I have an existing Fedora 13 LiveCD which I burned to a CD and
tested on a system without issue.
2) I then took that same ISO and dropped it in my pxelinux.cfg/default
for being able to boot over the network. I made sure to extract the

C6 LiveCD top 5 apps
Regarding http://twitter.com/CentOS/statuses/79336297579282432
I don't have a twitter account so I'm spamming the list since it looks on
topic :)
I'd like to see on the LiveCD the following:
1. latest dd_rescue
2. latest gparted
3. ntfs-3g
4. screen
5. mc

Help With Installation to USB Stick
Recently, I was able to create a workable Centos 4.4 "Live USB" on my 1G Lexar Firefly pendrive using the steps in http://linux.web.psi.ch/livecd/usbdisk.html. At the moment, it is doing its job, so I probably won't focus too much more on it. One thing that is annoying, although doesn't cause a problem is that on powerdown and reboot, the cd rom drive ejects - of course, there

LiveCD different sums but file size match
Hello,
I just downloaded the very great CentOS LiveCD and have some issue with the sum.
when I do md5sum -c md5sum.livecd they simply don't match.
But when check the size file with the file size posted by johnny in the announce
http://lists.centos.org/pipermail/centos-announce/2006-May/012905.html
They both match (in 717729792 bytes)
Probably I am doing something wrong, just to be sure

Writable Centos LiveCD on Embeded Linux?
Hi all,
I was wondering if it possible to have a Centos LiveCD installation boot
from
a Compact Flash in a embeded x86 (Wrap/Alix) platform *and* be able to
save the changes made to the File System back to the Flash memory.
So, the next time the LiveCD boots it will have all the changes made.
The problem I'm trying yo solve is:
- fast boot time
- fast recovery when the Linux is shutdown

Utility of Centos liveCD
It appears that the liveCD (CentOS-5.2-i386-LoveCD.iso that I downloaded
late last week) does not contain either netcat or tcpdump. Given the
frequent use of a livecd for testing and debugging, those would seem to be
key tools that should be available.
Obviously a LiveCD can't contain everything anybody might ever want, but
I'd give those two tools a pretty high priority; certainly much

CentOS 4.4 LiveCD instructions
I'm upgrading my current RedHat9 installation to CentOS 4.4, so decided
to buy the 4.4 LiveCD (rather than downloading and burning an ISO). I
thought the LiveCD was simply a 'reduced' version and that I could
install from it, but I find I don't actually know what to do with it and
can't find any relatively simple instructions (I'm a bit of a newbie to
linux but think
