Using Dovecot for IMAP/POP and SMTP
All,
I was wondering if it is possible to use Dovecot as both incoming and
outgoing.
I have a friend that I am helping build a server, and he plans on using
Dovecot for POP/IMAP and Postfix for SMTP and mailbox storage.
If I understand right, Dovecot can handle both services and that is the
path I would like him to take for easier maintenance.
Can someone confirm this?

User another userdb to sasl
Hello,
I use Dovecot 1.0.12 with Postfix on FreeBSD. It works perfectly, but I
have a question. My users are virtual (stocked in a MySQL database).
I use SASL Dovecot authentification, and SASL uses my userdb (for
POP/IMAP access).
However, I would like my users have an other login/password to send
email with SMTP/SASL. Or, I don't want my users use the same
login/password for POP/IMAP

pop/imap & smtp auth installation with just one userdb
Hi
First of all thanks to the authors of dovecot. It's a pleasure to work
with it.
I would like to ask, if somebody has an idea about how I can combine all
mailusers (dovecot pop/imap & sendmail smtp) into one db, given that I'd
like to use sasl with CRAM-MD5 as authentication mechanism to ensure security. The idea
behind my question is, that it is easier to administer all mail

Proxy IMAP/POP/ManageSieve/SMTP in a large cluster enviroment
Hi to all in the list, we are trying to do some tests lab for a large scale
mail system having this requirements:
- Scale to maybe 1million users(Only for testing).
- Server side filters.
- User quotas.
- High concurrency.
- High performance and High Availability.
We plan to test this using RHEL5 and maybe RHEL6.
As a storage we are going to use an HP EVA 8400 FC(8 GB/s)

Authentication per Service
Hi All,
I use dovecot (v2.3.4) with a SQL backend for user authentication,
passwords are
stored in CRAMMD5 format.
My SMTP server uses "doveadm auth" via auth-socket to perform sender
authentification. To shut down SMTP access for hacked passwords I want
to have a dedicated flag in the user database to allow/disallow SMTP for
a user withouth disabling his account for IMAP.
So, is

Thinking about switching from courier-imap to Dovecot: 2 simple questions
Hi,
I'm using RHEL4 and since the dovecot RPM is present in the main
repository, I'm thinking about switching from courier-imap (with whom
I've got trouble to update) to Dovecot. Here are two questions about
Dovecot (google didn't answer me):
1. Is it possible for dovecot to use the bind mecanism against ldap for
authentification purpose. My main concern is to avoid the

Pop-before-smtp issue
Hi,
I'm trying to use pop-before-smtp with Dovecot IMAP (not running pop3).
Pop-before-smtp has fixes to work with the fact that Thunderbird holds
the Dovecot Imap connection open and therefore doesn't record regular
'login' entries in maillog.
Problem is that pop-before-smtp relies on Dovecot recording a disconnect
in the maillog when an Imap client disconnects. Dovecot

TLS for all CentOS websites but not for smtp?
Hello everybody,
I just got the email about the enforcing of HTTPS for the CentOS Websites
which I really appreciate:
?The CentOS Project infra team has decided to implement TLS wherever we
can (?)?
Does anybody know if and when mail.centos.org will be able to deliver its
mails with STARTTLS? There seems to be no support for STARTTLS at all:
$: openssl s_client -connect mail.centos.org:25

POP Before SMTP for Sendmail
Does anyone have a patch or information resource on implementing POP
before SMTP with sendmail and DoveCot?
I implemented it using a qpopper patch before we swiched to DoveCot for
Maildirs. We have been using DoveCot for almost a year now and love it
better than any other IMAP or POP3 server.
Thanks for the info,

pop-before-smtp Dovecot pattern
Hi,
Having some problems with the default pattern in the pop-before-smtp.pl.conf
file for dovecot. Also the one off the dovecot wiki doesn't seem to work and
since I can't seem to figure out how these patterns work I hoping someone
could help me out with a custom pattern. This is what my mail log looks
like:

"pop before smtp" dovecot.conf
Bonjour a Tous,
I would like to generate (on the fly) a list "popbeforesmtp"
when dovecot POP/IMAP authentication succeed.
Intended Format will/should be such as:
'timestamp_in_second' user_id remote_ip
one user per line.
My guess we have all the needed information within dovecot
to make such list.
But I have seen no way to 'trick' dovecot (dovecot-1.0.alpha3)

pop before smtp
I'm using the latest version of dovecot on my FreeBSD 4.x box with
OpenPKG to keep other services up to date. Now...I'm able to get pbsmtp
to allow relaying through postfix on this server using UW IMAP, but I
would like to get dovecot working with relaying...but pbsmtp is not
adding the ip when I uncomment the dovecot section after I authenticate.
The log is below:

Question about $pat in pop-before-smtp.conf
Hi,
I have setup dovecot to log all successful pop3 and imap logins into
/var/log/mail.log
I want to use pop-before-smtp to process the log file and write a .db
file where sendmail can look up ip addresses that are allowd to relay.
mail.log entries look like this:
dovecot: 2006-01-26 17:22:28 Info: pop3-login: Login: user=<planat25>,

Pop-before-smtp and MySQL?
Hi,
I found that dovecot have many nice features.
Now I write because I'm tring to setup the dovecot server, I would
substitute a qpopper daemon (patched for mysql authentication)
The problem I find is to set up the pop-before-smtp using sql (mysq) as
written in http://wiki.dovecot.org/moin.cgi/PopBSMTPAndDovecot
(Waiting for post_login ;-)
I would use the script popbsmtp.sh and not a perl

dovecot/pop-before-smtp
Hi,
This is off-topic I know, but if anyone has any suggestions, I'd appreciate
it. I'm running postfix 2.2.x, dovecot 0.99, and it's working great, I
wanted pop-before-smtp functionality, so I fired up the suggested perl
daemon in the dovecot docs.. This seems to work, I ran tests, it was picking
up the ip's, putting them in the .db file, and postfix was able to read
them.

pop before smtp with 'exact' and 'exim4'
Hello,
I just thought I would write this in case its useful to anyone. I've used
dovecot for a while, as its so easy to set up, its fast and it and just
"works". I recently wanted to be able to send via my server after pop3s
authentication. I'm also running debian (testing) which utilises exim4 by
default. I found no information about how to do it with this combination of

Getting the SMTP envelope through IMAP?
Hi,
just a simple question about dovecot:
The mbox file format contains the SMTP envelope sender and transmission
date in a FROM ... line preceding the RFC822 mail header and body.
As far as I see at the moment, the IMAP protocol does not support
transmission of that SMTP envelope data in either way, but confusingly
uses the term ?envelope? for a structure describing the RFC822 mail header.
