having issues with shares
We recently migrated our install from an ancient fedora 11 install of samba and openldap to a centos 6.3 setup with its openldap and samba. The domain has been totally recreated from scratch as the person that did the previous setup has not been employed here in many years. After fighting with shares for a while we mostly got them fixed and working. However the biggest issue now is when our GIS

Move from roaming to local profiles
We are migrating all of our users from the current domain to a new one we created. In this process we are moving them from roaming profiles to local. What would be the best practice to accomplish this? I can find plenty of writeups on how to do the opposite. Also we will be doing some extra folder redirection. Currently we only redirect their my documents to the server. On the new system we plan

Choose Ldap authentification, Ldap-Properties fill in your Ldap-Server =
and
Search-Base.
Copy the files from the old server to the new with rsync.
Stop samba/ldap on the old server
Start ldap start samba on the new.
And you are running.
In my case I moved my samba from an old sidux to viruell centos5.5 on
windows 2008 Server.

Odd random roaming profile issues
We are currently using samba and openLDAP to enable our users to have
roaming profiles on our domain network. We have one primary domain
controller and 7 "home servers" at the various locations that serve the
profiles and such. The problem is that randomly various users are unable
to load their profile and windows just gives them a temporary profile.
This mostly happens on vista

Moving Samba PDC to new machine
I am looking to move our current Samba primary domain controller to a new machine. The current machine is EOL, running Fedora 11 (old), and had way too many services on it to start with (mail, dns, samba, mysql replication, primary ldap, etc). I am looking to move to a Xen domu with either Fedora 13 or Centos 5.5. What my question is is this:
what should I look for when I migrate the samba

Migrating mail from mbox to maildir using dovecot
Hello,
Currently our mail server is setup to use postfix and dovecot, which is fine except it is setup to use mbox format mail. That and procmail as we need to move to sieve but that is a different issue. I have searched until blue in the face and cannot find a 100% working solution that doesn't require alot of manual interaction to move the mail boxes from mbox to maildir.
I have

Very odd issue with Win7 and trust relationships
Hello all,
We have just concluded a very drawn out test of our domain that
is having some trust relationship problems with Windows 7 desktops. Here
is a breakdown of our setup:
roark PDC running samba 3.4.7 (also has OpenLDAP) on VLAN 2
archives3 BDC running samba 3.4.7 (also has OpenLDAP) on VLAN2
arrowhead BDC "home server" running samba 3.4.3 on VLAN 9

Install ubunto domU
Dear *,
I''m more used to work with RedHat like OSes. Still, I did not denied the
request from a user who wants a domU based on ubunto. I usually use
virt-install to do the job, with a script similar to this one:
#!/bin/sh
BASE=SL-4.7-i386-pv \
virt-install --nographics \
--nonsparse \
--paravirt \
--noreboot \

Best setup for performance and fault tolerance
Hello all. I am in need of some guidance. First a little background. Currently our mail server is on physical hardware (Dell server with 2x 2.8GHz Xeon w/ 4GB ram, raid5 array, single gigabit nic) running on Fedora 11 and postfix-2.5.6-3.fc11.x86_64 with dovecot-1.2.11-3.fc11.x86_64. Mailstore is via Maildir format that was converted from mbox about a year ago. This same machine is also our PDC

Hi,
Do you think it''s possible to run Xenserver/XCP or xen from an usb drive or
memory card like it''s possible for vmware please ? Is it recommended ? Are
there any performance issue :-) ? I would like to dedicate all of the
local storage to hosting VMs only.
Looking at xen/xenserver/xcp doc, i was wondering why there''s so few

Authenticating other services against AD - PAM and Postgres - dedicated user
Hi!
I've got a samba4 pdc, fileserver and whatnot running now for a few months,
a number of users logs in there daily, everyone seems quite happy about it
going.
I've migrated my environment from samba3 NTdomain, where I had LDAP backend
for users and I used that to authenticate other services against it: like
pam on other servers and postgres DBs. I have succesully managed to do this

Can't join machine without full access
Sernet samba 4.2.2 in ubuntu 14.04.2 LTS, a fresh migration from samba 3
(I'm still in the testing phase).
I'm experimenting with task delegation.
Using the ADUC wizard, I select the "Join machine to domain" task to add
to my userid (I also tried a group I'm a member of with the same
result), at the domain level (rough translation, this is on a localized
windows 7).

Windows XP cannot join Samba 4AD but win 7 can.
Hello everybody,
I've got some troubles making Win XP join may samba4 AD, and, well, i'm
kind of stuck !
I use the binary distribution of Samba 4 for Ubuntu Trusty Server
(4.1.6), with bind9 DLZ as a DNS backend.
Everything works fine with Win7 workstations, but I get a message
"Internal Error" on Win XP workstation during the domain join.
The machine account is created on

How to allow users to be local admin
Hi,
it's some time that I had to touch our samba installation and may be
somewon can point me to the right direction.
We run a samba-3.6.9 PDC with ldap backend and windows 7 clients.
Everything for normal users is working fine (domain logon, roaming
profiles).
But now we'd like to enable our systemadministartors to login to any
workstation with there domain user and install software or

There isn't directly, you'd have to either run virt-customize as an
external command, or
