Working Passwd Chat for Unix Password Sync on Redhat 6.1
I have been trying to get the password sync working for Redhat 6.1 (samba 2.05a rpm). I got the PDC working this morning, so I'm happy. The FAQ section on the samba site was very helpful. The password sync was the only sticking point. The default passwd chat script didn't work well passwd chat = *New*UNIX*password* %n\n *ReType*new*UNIX*password* %n\n *passw

Samba 3.0.0beta1 problems when using 'unix password sync'
Hi, I've been playing with the above release package, and everything works great. Domain logons with WinXP / Win95, file shares between WinXP / Win95 / Linux. That said, I cannot seem to get the above version of the software to play nice with the 'unix password sync' directive. Trying to modify the Windows Networking password would usually return 'Incorrect password'. I get

Unix password Sync
Ive just discovered that my previous email is wrong - the password sync does in fact work under Solaris fine. What is happening however is that when I create a new account, and call smbpasswd $user as root, it only updates the SMB password and not the Unix password as well. I though I could change my call to /bin/passwd in my new user creation scrip with /usr/local/samba/bin/smbpasswd -a, but as

Samba 3 Unix Password Sync
Working with my first Samba PDC using samba 3.0.3 on FreeBSD 5.2.1. Single subnet, handful of win2k and winxp boxes fully patched. Everything is working fine except the password sync. What do I have to add to samba (or windows) to set it up so when someone changes their password on Windows it updates the passwd and smbpasswd files automatically? Thanks.

unix password sync = yes problems
Hey all, I'd like to be able to sync up the smbpasswd file with the unix passwd file. I've read that I can do this with the option unix password sync set to yes. Here is the part of my relevant smb.conf: encrypt passwords = Yes passwd program = /usr/bin/passwd %u passwd chat = *New*UNIX*password* %n\n *ReType*new*UNIX*password* %n\n unix password

unix password sync = True?
OK here's the problem: when i use the "smbpasswd" program it doesn't update the "passwd" file in /etc. What i want: The explicate conditions in which Samba to Unix password syncing will operate correctly on a Red Hat 7.0 (Guiness) distro with samba 2.0.7-21ssl (included in distro) IE: perrmissions on passwd and smbpasswd files, password program = ?, password chat =

Unix password sync
Hi! I'm new in this list and i'm quite new to samba. I'm trying to configure samba as a PDC for a Windows XP network. Samba version: 3.2.5 on Debian Lenny 5.0.4 The domain works, as well profiles. Password Sync not letting users to change password.
Dear all, Ubuntu 8.04 Server Samba 3.0.28a configured as PDC. I want to give options to samba users to change their own passwords and sync it with the unix passwords whenever they change it. Password sync problem from unix to windows
I have searched the list and have been unable to find a definitive answer to this problem. I am using Samba 3.0.2xx as a PDC. The server that runs this also happens to be a NIS master (not sure if this complicates matters or not). When a user's password is changed within a windows client that is part of this domain (i.e. using ctrl-alt-del), the password change correctly propagates to the

unix password sync doesn't update smbpasswd file!
Hi all, I'm using 2.2.3 on FreeBSD 4.5 RELEASE and trying to get 'smbpasswd' to change the encrypted password and the UNIX password (/etc/passwd). I'm getting strange behaviour. FreeBSD: Changing UNIX password - Password Chat?
I can't get my Samba PDC (FreeBSD 7,0-BETA3) changing UNIX passwords from Windows clients (Ctrl-Alt-Del). I now have the password chat debug active and I have loglevel 100. I am not certain about the syntax in the password chat. But if I from a console try to change the password of a given user (here testuser1), I see these lines: mflserver3# /usr/bin/passwd testuser1 Changing local password
