question about extreme value distribution
Hello, I have a question about using extreme value distribution in R. I have two variables, X and Y, and have pairs of points (X1,Y1),(X2,Y2), (X3,Y3) etc. When I plot X against Y, it looks like the maximum value of Y (for a particular X) is correlated with X. Indeed, when I bin the data by X-value into equally sized bins, and test whether the maximum value of Y for a bin is correlated with

cannot start smbd on AIX 5.3
Help please. I am in the process of configuring Samba 3.0.14a onto 4 AIX 5.3 systems. It seems to be working OK on 3 of the 4, but on the last one, I cannot start smbd. nmbd seems to start fine. The smb.conf file matches the other servers except that the server name is changed. Here's the error showing up on the log.smbd file. [2007/05/02 15:19:47, 0] smbd/server.c:main(835) standard

Alternatives to cman+clvmd ?
I currently have a few CentOS 5.2 based Xen clusters at different sites. These are built around a group of 3 or more Xen nodes (blades) and some sort of shared storage (FC or iSCSI) carved up by LVM and allocated to the domUs. I am "managing" the shared storage (from the dom0 perspective) using cman+clvmd, so that changes to the LVs (rename/resize/create/delete/etc) are

CVE-2019-11500: Critical vulnerability in Dovecot and Pigeonhole
Daniel, thanks so much for the detailed pointers. So it turns out to be both the evil that is systemd and an overzealous upgrade script. Apollon, should I raise a Debian bug for this? As for reasons, how do 50k proxy session on the proxy servers and 25k imap processes on the mailbox servers sound? Even on a server with just 6k users and 7k imap processes that causes a massive load spike and a

[LLVMdev] Any plans to add LLVM support for ARM EH EABI ?
I am new to LLVM but have perused the code alongside using llvm-gcc and CLANG to build ARM EABI objects. Based on this superficial analysis it appears that LLVM currently does not support the ARM Exception Handling ABI (as defined under the EABI). Can anyone comment on whether plans are in place to remedy this? I did see the discussion regarding work on the MC for ARM. Will this work include

data -> data matrix that can be used in regressions
Dear R users, I have spent most of this day figuring out how to read STATA data into R (which eventually worked) and to run a simple OLS regression. It seems that the manuals are written in the most general and abstract way which does not really make it easy to understand what's going on. I'd be glad if somebody could save my day by: telling me how to define a matrix from the

I'm looking back at the message you wrote describing errors in ld-2.17.so. I think what's happening is that the policy on your system includes a silent rule that somehow breaks your system. Cross-validation in R
Folks; I am having a problem with the cv.glm and would appreciate someone shedding some light here. It seems obvious but I cannot get it. I did read the manual, but I could not get more insight. This is a database containing 3363 records and I am trying a cross-validation to understand the process. When using the cv.glm, code below, I get mean of perr1 of 0.2336 and SD of 0.000139. When using a

I've solved the detached-branch problem
I've solved the detached-branch problem! It wasn't actually the branch-rename overwrites that were doing this - turns out I was trying to remove cvs2svn-generated junk commits too soon and in the process deleting critical branch links. I've uploaded a new tarball to http://www.catb.org/esr/nut-conversion/nut-conversion.tar.gz with the 2.0-pre3 version of reposurgeon in it. That
