R crashes when loading rgl package before minqa package
Hej,
Calling newuoa (from the minqa package) makes R crash when the package rgl
is loaded first. This however only on certain selected data.
The data used for testing (saved to 'bugs.R'):

R CMD check issue with soft-linked directory
I've been having some strange problems with R CMD check in the last couple of days, but
now believe I have localized the issue.
I had been running Ubuntu Hardy on one drive and then upgraded to Jaunty, but put Jaunty
on a different drive. I continue to be able to boot Hardy when I wish. I soft-linked my R
working area i.e.,
/home/john/Rstuff ----> /media/lnx804/home/john/Rstuff

What is the fastest way to see what are in an RData file?
Currently, I load the RData file then ls() and str(). But loading the file
takes too long if the file is big. Most of the time, I only interested what
the variables are in the the file and the attributes of the variables (like
if it is a data.frame, matrix, what are the colnames/rownames, etc.)
I'm wondering if there is any facility in R to help me avoid loading the
whole file.

help needed on RcppEigen....
dear members,
I am using R to model stock prices but a slow "for" loop has stifled my research.
I am using Rcpp to speed up my "for" loop. I am also using RcppEigen to implement block operations on xts objects.....
how do I use RcppEigen? If I just load it by:
> require(RcppEigen)
it is not recognising the .block method in C++.
If I include it inside

Error: ReadItem: unknown type 98, perhaps written by later version of R
Hi,
I am running a large number of jobs (thousands) in parallel (linux OS
64bit), R version 2.14.1 (2011-12-22), Platform: x86_64-redhat-linux-gnu
(64-bit). Up to yesterday everything ran fine with jobs in several
blocks (block1, block2 etc) of submission. They are sent to an LSF
platform to handle the parallel submission. Today I see that only one of
the blocks (the 19) has not finished

calling R API functions after engine shutdown
Hi!
We?ve recently come across an example where a package (minqa) creates an Rcpp Function object in a static variable.
This causes R_ReleaseObject to be called by the destructor at a very late point in time - as part of the system exit function:
static Function cf("c");
I?m wondering if that is considered to be ?safe??
Is the R engine supposed to stay in a state where calls to API

Problem when trying to install packages
Dear Rui;
Many thanks for your reply. I have installed Rtools (rtools43-5958-5975) on
my PC and I have R version 4.3.3 and 4.3.2 to install. Also I have
installed Rstudio through Anaconda Navigator.
But I do not know how to use Rtools for installing the R packages. I would
be more than happy if you help me.
Sincerely yours

optim(…, method=‘L-BFGS-B’) stops with an error message while violating the lower bound
Hello:
The development version of Ecdat on R-Forge contains a vignette
in which optim(?, method=?L-BFGS-B?) stops with an error message while
violating the lower bound.
To see all the details, try the following:
install.packages("Ecdat", repos="http://R-Forge.R-project.org")
Then do "help(pac=Ecdat)" -> "User guides, package

Cannot re-start R after bus error
Hi,
I ran a program that was exhausting the (unix) server's available memory. I got a bus error and then chose to save and quit workspace (option 4).
That may not have been a smart idea - when I try to use R now, I get the error message:
Error in load(name, envir = .GlobalEnv) :

I want R to read my Microsoft Access database or maybe even a Sybase

MKL Acceleration encouraging; need adjust package builds?
Dear R-devel:
The Cluster administrators at KU got enthusiastic about testing
R-3.2.2 with Intel MKL when I asked for some BLAS integration. Below
I forward a performance report, which is encouraging, and thought you
would like to know the numbers. Appears to my untrained eye there are
some extraordinary speedups on Cholesky decomposition, determinants,
and matrix inversion.

CRAN versions of lme4/Matrix don't appear to work with R 2.1.1
I am currently using R 2.1.1 under Windows and I do not seem to be able
to load the current versions of lme4/Matrix. I have run
'update.packages.' I understand this is still experimental software but
I would like access to a working version.
Thanks.

Buffer overflow in date package
Dear list-members,
I have observed quite a strange problem with the date package.
You will find below what I get on my machine (Ubuntu). I have been able to
reproduce the error on Red Hat too. But it seems not to happen on Windows
(and on some other Linux distros?).

Problem when trying to install packages
Though Navigator may mess up any Rtools stuff because it handles the
directory trees where packages and dependencies are located, does it not?
If so, maybe just reinstall RStudio directly from its website to proceed.
Just a guess obviously.
