Dovecot SLOW with sssd in centos 6
Hello, I have a big performance problem with a mail server using dovecot and authenticating users via ldap. The architecture of the machine is a local ldap and mysql server, they are used by dovecot for authenticating the mail users. If i use pam_sss the mail server has about 1/8 - 1/10 the performances it has if i use the pam_ldap. Even doing a 'time ls -l' on the mail tree (there are

snmpwalk Mixed Fail
Hi All, I have a C6 (latest patches) physical machine that I use for network and server monitoring, predominantly over SNMP. It is on VLAN80. My network management interfaces on the switches are on VLAN50 with routing between the VLANs. I recently changed the router to a CISCO ASA 5505 (reasonably recent IOS version, certainly post HeartBleed), with the management interface on a higher

Secure VNC access from iPad
Dear Gurus If any of you have been successful in using an iPad as a VNC client with SSH tunnelling, I'd love to know how it's done. I have tried using the iSSH application, but without success. I know that the server is accessible from a Windows client (using TigerVNC), via an SSH tunnel, so the server is properly configured. If you have a working example, please let me know what

Anyone using trac on centos?
(Besides Paul, who's busy?) I just need one question answered: I keep reading the docs, and given the old traditional /var/www I get that part of trac should be installed in /var/www/trac/<myproj> (I think); what I can't figure out is whether there is *anything* under the document root, that is, /var/www/html/trac/<myproject>. Anyone have a clue? Do I even need it as a

Selinux blocking bind access to named/data and slave directories
I was getting permission errors (seen in /var/log/messages) in accessing these two directories within my chroot tree. I was pulling out what little hair I have, as the permissions were identical to those on my Centos 5.5 server. So I switched selinux into permissive mode and now I have /var/named/chroot/var/named/data/named.run and my ..../named/slave/ stubs. What is the selinux magic to

Spacewalk? Local repo? Cache?
I have a mix of CentOS 5, 6, and now 7 servers at work. There are enough of them now that it is starting to make sense for them to get updates from an internal source. I've seen RHN Satellite in years past. It looks like it may be a way to allow Windows admins here (familiar with WSUS) to update Linux boxes. A local repo might be easier to set up, but (as with Spacewalk) it seems like

Virtual NICs (aliases like eth0:1) won't come up after reboot
With one problem down I still have another remaining. Since the installation of our primairy webserver we have had a problem with the network aliasses. Our server has 8 IP adresses so we used the tool provided in the GUI to specify (and name - for our own convinience) eth0 aliasses with the other 7 adresses. After setting them up, applying them, activating them and restarting

OT: Setting a CentOS to gateway a private IP address
This is mildly off topic since it has more to do with TCP/IP networking than with CentOS per se. However, at the risk of ruffling a few feathers I would like some advice on how to resolve the following routing problem: Given: dual homed host running CentOS-5.2 with eth0 = 2xx.yyy.zzz.23 eth1 = 192.168.219.1 and a Cisco gateway at 2xx.1xx.y7y.1 with the following networks: interface

binding additional IP addresses to centos6 on one interface
I know this was discussed before, and I have seen a million ways of doing this via online docs. I have a quick question that hopefully the community can help me out with I am trying to add a block of 10 IP addresses. Rather then create 10 different alias files, I want to use the RANGE file. Docs say to use the following format: IPADDR_START=x.x.x.x IPADDR_END=x.x.x.x CLONENUM_START=0 If the

Cannot set alias IP address
Hi, I have an eth0 interface (it's a CentOS 6 guest VM on a KVM host) which is configured as follows (see below) with a primary public IP address of xxx.xxx.xxx.130 (which works fine). I cannot set an alias IP address. I want eth0 to also use another IP address (xxx.xxx.xxx.131, so I create /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth0:1. Then: # service network restart Shutting down

Trouble supressing ASAN reported leaks
Hi, I'm currently trying to find and fix memory leaks (compiling with ``-fsanitize=address``) in the KLEE tool [1] an having found some leaks and I'm having trouble suppressing them. I'm trying to suppress them using the ``-fsanitize-blacklist=blacklist.txt`` option as documented at [2]. I'm using Clang 3.7 ( Arch Linux package 3.7.0-6). The sort of reported leaks I see are ```

Embedding discussion onto a webpage
Dear all, I have a digg-clone website. However, I want it so that when a user clicks on a link (which links to another website), it opens up the link along with embedded discussion (from my website). This is so that a user can both view the link and also discuss it at the same time. Are there examples of ways of doing this? I am interested in using Ajax or Javascript to do this. I do wish

Following directions from the wiki, I first tried to use svn:externals $ svn propedit svn:externals vendor svn: ''.'' is not a working copy and got that error. I then checked out the trunk into my /vendor folder. How do I install from this source? The only install directions I can find use gem. Thanks for your help with either problem. -Mike

reverse proxy holding onto port, complicated
I have a rails app that is behind a firewall and I need to be able to ssh into the box, so I do this... - create a reverse tunnel from the rails system to my system using ssh -R - ssh from my system to the rails system thru the reverse tunnel It works great ! But, if/when I restart my mongrel cluster, one of the mongrels always fails with an "port in use" error. I guess

Unable to log onto Samba Share as Local Administrator
So we have a samba domain server and a samba member server with security set to DOMAIN. The domain server used to be running samba 3.0. We recently swapped machines out and replaced it with a newer server running samba 3.2. Everything is still working fine, except. We used to be able to access shares on the member server as Local Administrator. We'd put in the UNC path \\server\temp and it

Projecting data onto a NMS plot
Hello all and thanks for the help. I am analyzing a dataset using MetaMDS and I would like to project some extra samples onto the plot such that the extra samples do not play a role in defining the axes. I have been thinking of different ways of doing this and I was wondering if anyone had a suggestion for an easy way to do this (possibly a way to weight samples in the analysis?) Thanks --
