Hi all
*Context:*
I'm trying to use the s4bind scripts (
http://linuxcostablanca.blogspot.com.es/p/s4bind.html)

So far, i've succeeded in
* modifying (posixifying) the built-in "Domain Users"
* adding a user to this group and i can login with this user (ssh), create
files that are correctly owned, etc... The user also shows up correcly in
ADUC.
* retrieving

[samba4] Build requires libncurses-dev
I tried building the latest master from git on debian wheezy.
It seems to require libncurses-dev.
I thought to add it into the wiki as a required package to install, but it
seems one needs to ask for a login to the wiki. No prob ;)
Could someone add it to the wiki? Or is this an unintentional dependency
that will be removed?

smbclient: Renaming file on DFS root fails with NT_STATUS_OBJECT_PATH_NOT_FOUND
If a file is stored directly on a DFS enabled share, renaming fails with
NT_STATUS_OBJECT_PATH_NOT_FOUND.
The usecase may sound unusual, but a customer is using NetApp ONTAP 9,
which by default advertises DFS capabilities for all shares, and he
cannot disable it for policy reasons.
I can also reproduce the issue with smbd and Windows Server 2012 R2
(haven't checked with other versions).

DFS not working from XP
Hi,
I'm am trying to configure our samba server to use dfs. It authenticates
against active directory but it gets the uid mappings from nis via the
local
nsswitch. I think I have configured dfs ok as smbclient[1] seems to work ok
with my minimal config[2]. However I can't access it from Windows XP[3],
I get
"network path was not found" when using "net use" from a

smbcontrol xxxx reload-config doesn't work and other details samba 3.2
Hi Samba team.
I installed on a new server samba 3.2.0.
And all work fine, except the reload-config command and other things.
For resolve some missed-configuration, I modify the smb.conf and call
smbcontrol <smbd_pid> reload-config, but it's not work.
Ex :
I added mdfs root = yes (same as samba 3.0.x), after I called smbcontrol
xxxx reload-config

Hello Mailing List, I really need some help/advice.
Please bear with me as this is my first time actually using a mailing list.
I've set up a CentOS 6.4 machine as a samba4 Primary Domain Controller, and
successfully joined a windows 8 client machine to the domain.
My question is as follows: when I add the computer "BED-DESK-01" to the
domain "MYDOMAIN.LOCAL" shouldn't an A record be created for

changing kickoff time
Hello everybody,
we moved our samba server to a new machine. This included changing the
samba version from 3.024 to 3.4.2 and changing the OS from Linux to
Opensolaris.
Samba was compiled from scratch. Passdb Backend is tdb.
After the upgrade everything works fine......except:
Some users can not login, due to an expired account.
Further investigation showed that the "Kickoff Time"

Samba 3 dynamically enable or disable share
Hello,
? ?I wonder if it is possible to dynamically enable/disable samba 3 shares.?
Here is my problem.?
On a remote server I have 4 removable hard drives, large capacity. I am not using any RAID/JBOD, so each drive is mounted individually (like /mnt/DISK1, /mnt/DISK2 etc) and each drive is individually shared, something like:
[STORAGE01]
path = /mnt/DISK1
Guest OK = false
...
[STORAGE02]

ntp and samba4
Hi all
Recently i noticed that upon starting the samba4 'samba' daemon, that it
changes the group ownership of the socket for ntpd to *staff*
$ls -l /usr/local/samba/var/lib/ntp_signd/
total 0
srwxrwxrwx 1 root *staff* 0 May 6 16:35 socket
The documentation says it needs to be *ntp*....
(FYI: i'm running this on debian wheezy)
I have just added ntp to group staff, but that seems

msdfs
Hello,
Last week I submitted a problem with msdfs on samba.
I didn't receive any reaction. I've also tried the samba-cvs version but
this
has also problems.
We really like to use msdfs from samba, because we want to put all our
homedirectories
( more than 4000 ) in one dfsroot. This is not possible with Microsoft's
dfs because this
has a limit of 1000 .... I didn't found this

cron.hourly runs twice
For some reason I cannot fathom,
cron.hourly runs twice each hour
on one of my two CentOS-5.4 systems,
as reported in /var/log/cron:
-------------------------
Mar 16 14:01:01 helen crond[27833]: (root) CMD (run-parts /etc/cron.hourly)
Mar 16 14:01:01 helen crond[27834]: (root) CMD (run-parts /etc/cron.hourly)
-------------------------
On the other it just runs once, as expected.

Read but no write to linux shares from winxp
Running Gentoo linux
samba-3.0.23a
I've used samba for quite some time but never have had to delve into
its inner workings... Its always just worked.
Recently I'm finding that when accessing linux shares from a winxp
machine, I have read access, but no write.
Far as I know the unix to samba user mappings as set correctly (and as
they have been for some time)
Near as I can tell the
