sempron 2500+ running at 1044 cpu speed.
I have a desktop unit with a sempron 2500+ to play with. doing "more /proc/cpuinfo" indicates cpu Mhz as1044 not the 2500 I am familiar with cpuspeed. doing ps ax | grep cpuspeed resulting in nothing. I did service cpuspeed start. No errors reported. ps ax | grep cpuspeed resulted in nothing. I was going to do "killall -SIGUSR1 cpuspeed" to attempt to get 2500+ cpu speed. I

correct way to set centos 5 amd64 to performance mode
what is the correct way to set an AMD64 CPU into performance mode at boot time? I have tried doing service network cpuspeed start, then killall -SIGUSR1 cpuspeed and this works but I cant get it working this way at boot. I have set chkconfig cpuspeed on but that didnt seem to help. I just want this particular machine to boot in performance mode and stay there. Jerry

Chris, I have a compaq AMD r4000 x86_64. grabbing the latest kernel and compiling it fixed my clock skew. I have not had any slow disk issues. again the kernel may help doing the command: killall -SIGUSR1 cpuspeed makes the CPU run faster. Hope that helps. centos 5 and cpuspeed
In older version of centos there was cpuspeed -d running that controlled current speed. In centos 5 it is set for on demand and cpuspeed is not running. I can startup cpuspeed and send it a signal SIGUSR1 to go full speed. This works. However, What is the correct or prefered method to control the cpuspeed in centos 5? THere are times when I want to tell the machine to go full speed and

Questions on cpu frequency scaling AMD vs. Intel
I've been playing and comparing frequency scaling between AMD and Intel CPUs yesterday and there seem to be great differences between AMD and Intel and some gotchas. This is all on CentOS 5.2 with latest Xen kernels (which are supposed to be powersaving-enabled since 5.2). AMD: It seems once I get the AMD CPU to use the ondemand governor it works very well and very efficiently. But this

cpuspeed on centos 5
It appears as cpuspeed is not running on my centos 5 box(s). One is a biostar motherboard Am2 6400+ the other is Asus am2 4800+. If I do "service cpuspeed stop" it says OK, If I do a "service cpuspeed start" is says OK. However at no time is cpuspeed running. /proc/cpuinfo only shows the cpu running at 1000 Mhz. If I manually run "cpuspeed -C & " I now have

compaq r4000 /proc/cpuinfo reports 997 and should be 2400
Hi I have a compaq R4000 with the 2.4GIG AMD 64 bit. 4000+ rated. proc cpuinfo reports cpu Mhz as 997.481 Do I have to run the 64 bit version to have things run correctly? I just have the normal 4.2 loaded at this time. The laptop seems slow for 4000+ as reflected by the cpu Mhz also. Any thoughts on running the 32 bit version of 4.2 vs the 64 bit version of 4.2? Jerry

CPU Freq Scaling
Hi list, I'm using C7 and noticed that cpu freq is enabled with governor conservative. I've used cpupower utils for governor change, but at the next boot it restart with conservative governor. I've tried also to start cpupower service and setting OPT in /etc/sysconfig/cpupower but it does not works. Can someone point me in the right direction? Thanks in advance

bitrate scaling by freq / quality bug ? / comments
Hi again! I have some other suggestions/modifications. 1. Bitrate scaling by frequency in vorbis_encode_init: bpch=(long)((float)nominal_bitrate/(float)channels*44100.0f/(float)rate); With this modification, if we use -b128 at 22khz files, the OGG file will be 128kbit/s, not 64kbit/s ... 2. Probable quality bug: I tested some floating point constants (recalculated them (see below) and encoded

compaq R4000 update (hogging interrupts)
After a couple hours last night.... doing a "killall -SIGUSR1 cpuspeed" bumps up the /proc/cpuinfo information for cpu mhz to 2393 Mhz. I did notice a little increase after that. However, the machine is still sluggish. I did a "hdparm -c 1 /dev/hda" but really did not notice any difference. I tried to download fglrx64_6_8_0_8.16.20-1.x86_64.rpm from ati (also 8.20.8) and get

Switching screen resolution on the fly
Is there any way other than CTL ALT + and CTL ALT - to set and or change the resolution of the X server when I want to. Is there a way to so take me to "1920x1080" mode and then later take me to "1366x768" mode. With xvidtune I see the -next and -prev options but I was hoping for jumping to specific modes. I so realize I can also edit out unwanted modes in the xorg.conf but

Compaq V2000 laptop no USB recognized
To continue here with problems on this compaq v2000 laptop, I put kernel source on a USB disk and plugged it into the v2000. NOTHING IS recognized. I tried to manually mount the disk and nothing either... I thought USB was well established.... I thought trying to recompile the kernel for realtek support might get my networking going... I am stuck??? Jerry -------------- next part

compaq r4000 32 bit and 64 bit install
Gents, I first installed the 32 bit version (as you might have read) of centos 4.2, after downloading x86_64 the install process/progress is about the same. going VERY slow... The screen for formatting the partitions took a LONG time (3 partitions 10 GIG, 2 GIG swap and 50 GIG). While on that screen and moving the mouse it lagged big time and could not keep up. Anyway just reporting that so far

confused with 2 boxes centos 5
Hi All, I had a box centos5 AMD64 X2 4200+, Asus motherboard, Nvidia 7100 video card, 512M, when playing a video at 1080p it did well but had a couple times went out of sync. So amd dropped its price and I got a 5200+, gigabyte motherboard, Nvidia 7100 video card, 512M. This FASTER system is actually slower. The video is WAY behind on sync. I have looked at the X config they are the same. I

cpuspeed problems with 5.2 and 2.6.18-92.1.18 kernel revision
After upgrade my laptop, I discovered a low performance on it. The laptop is a 2,73GHz Intel centrino and from some kernels versions to now, it had a good performance, the cpu scaling worked fine. Now, I discover that forcing in /etc/sysconfig/cpuspeed the governors and/or max/min speeds, it don't want to run more quickly. The laptop boots fine with the correct speed (usual speed), but when
