Unicorn + RUnit Rails Not Killing Old Master
Hi, I''m deploying Unicorn on a Rails application with RUnit. Technically I''m using Chef''s deployment tools, if any of you are familiar with it (https://github.com/opscode-cookbooks/application_ruby) but to be clear they aren''t doing anything magical, so this is purely an issue with RUnit and Unicorn. The TL;DR of the following post, which has lots of

wbinfo -u responds with Error looking up domain users
Hi all, I have an Samba + LDAP PDC and BDC setup with a trust to an NT 4 domain. I am using Samba 3.0.21c on Sles 9. HRH is the Samba domain and Hendricks is the NT4 domain. When using getent passwd and/or wbinfo -u on the pdc all of the users from both domains are listed: getent passwd: <snip>HRH users: njcloud:x:1034:1014:System User:/home/njcloud:/bin/bash acrardi:x:1035:513:System

Samba 3 dms doesn't allow access through interdomain trust
Hello everyone! I have a little problem: HRH = trusted domain (Samba 3) Hendricks = trusting domain (NT4 sp6a) Trusts are setup between the NT4 and Samba3 + OpenLDAP domain and appear to be working properly. When logged into the HRH domain on a W2k workstation I can view, read, and write on available shares for HRH groups and users on our Windows file servers. Whenever I try to see available

winbind samba and nt4 pdc
Hi all I am attempting to install winbind on a Redhat 9 machine with an NT4 PDC. The winbind version is samba-2.2.7a-7.9.0 as a stock RH install. I have followed the install instructions on the man page and I still get the errors shown below. I have searched google for the STATUS_BUFFER_OVERFLOW (0x80000005)error and the plaintext password authentication failed error but nothing I've found

how to drop fields by name when reading in data?
I have a number of space separated files of weather data, with some equivalent column names, and differing number of fields in each file. Some of the files have 40 or more vars, but I only want a subset of the fields. I can use colClasses with read.table to drop some of the fields, but only if I know where those columns are in the first place, and they're not always in the same place. So I

Re: can store array or hash in cookies?
Not a bug. A cookie is just a string. You can turn anything into a string and store it in a cookie. Something very simple like the following might work for you: array_for_cookie = [1,4,5,7] cookies[:foo] = array_for_cookie .to_s array_from_cookie = cookies[:foo][1..-2].split('','') (And if you are just storing a single integer in a cookie be sure to turn it into a

AWS OpsWorks announcement using Chef
I wonder if PuppetLabs will work with Amazon to try to add Puppet as an option to OpsWorks as well ? I don''t think people using Puppet with AWS in a stable fashion would try to move to OpsWorks and migrate everything to Chef, but new customers/startups would think twice in choosing Puppet if the service offered in AWS OpsWorks is based on Chef. I haven''t tried OpsWorks yet,

useradd -r doesn't work right in some contexts
"useradd -r testuser" run as root from an interactive ssh session does the right thing: it creates a user account with a UID in the system users range (< 400). Running the same command as a cron job (just for testing), also does the right thing. Now I'm trying to accomplish the same result via chef-client. I'm trying to run "useradd -r" as a simple command, as

Using Chef to set the database name, username, and password
One of my Ruby on Rails apps is Bargain Stock Funds (https://github.com/jhsu802701/bsf), and it relies on a Ruby gem called bsf_scrape (https://github.com/jhsu802701/bsf_scrape) to obtain and process data on stock funds and then save the results in a PostgreSQL database. As you well know, the config/database.yml file needs the database name, the username, and the password. My procedures for

Samba3, ldap and password expiry
Hi all! We are using 1 Samba PDC and 2 bdc (Version 3.0.15pre3-SVN-build-UNKNOWN-PS-SuSE) with openldap2-2.2.6-37.38 on SLES 9. New users setup ok and first logon password change works. Because of HIPAA we need the passwords to change every 30 days however this isn't happening. I thought that I had this working once upon a time while I was testing and getting ready for production but

CentOS-6.5 - CD/DVD does not sense media
I dealing with problem 1 - see previous message - I set about creating a live DVD on my development system. Now I find that I cannot seem to mount a medium in that drive. wodim --devices reports it as present and so does cdrecode. I can use the eject utility to toggle the tray open and closed. But when I load a blank dvd or cd in that unit I get nothing on my desktop - in other words I am not

Problems with Samba 2.2.5 and Solaris 8
Hello, we've got a Problem with our Samba-Fileserver. Shortly I installed Samba 2.2.5 compiled under Solaris 8 with gcc version 2.95.2 19991024 (release). We have some NT-Servers using Windows NT4 Terminal Server Edition. And there are round about 70 Users per Server using them. Now my Problem: Everything works fine until one Client opens the 129th Connection to the Samba-Server. The
