Hi:
I''ve been trying to get a very simple app running on godaddy
Do you think using godaddy for rails hosting is a good idea?
Thanks

ec2 versus engineyard, clarrifications
Can someone clarify for me what advantage engineyard provides over running
ec2 yourself?
Is it that they provide chef recipes, automate backup/restore scripts for
you via a web dashboard? Or is there something more to it?
i.e. if I have puppet scripts to create a server, and have backup/restore
scripts for my db etc. does engineyard still provide more services?

Problem with EngineYard portion of Railsinstaller
I have installed Railsinstaller without any problems. I am going
through the video. I ran into a few issues with errors in the video
which have already been answered on this site in regards to git. Now I
am all the way to the end of the video with the Engineyard deployment.
When I deploy I get an error about my gemlock file not having a
recognized database adapter which I figure is not a

Moving from Engineyard to Amazon's OpsWorks
Hello all,
We're considering moving our Rails app from Engineyard to Amazon's
OpsWorks. We should have a considerable savings doing this.
Has anyone out there done this? Just wondering what horror stories (or good
stories) there are in doing this.
Thanks

EngineYard deploy - Vanilla Database
Hi folks,
Just after a ''best-practise'' recommendation here really, I am
deploying a series of applications to EY and for each one, need to
setup the database with some default settings / user account etc etc.
What is the best way to write a few initial rows to a vanilla
database? I''ve looked into using the deploy hooks on EY but it doesn''t
seem to cover DB

Hola Rolando,

problems with ActionMailer
Hi all,
I''m trying to create a worker to send a mail to all the users in my
db. Right now I''m doing the tests, this is the code in my worker
(Masivo is the ActionMailer subclass):
def do_work(args)
@progress = 0
@logger.info("MAILER: starting job")
records = Record.find(:all)
total = records.size
records.each_with_index do |record, idx|

Crear matriz binaria
Hola,

thread problems
I have a really long series of queries (import from other database*)
that takes about 2 or 3 minutes. I wanted to spawn a thread and put the
job there, but there seems to be some problems with active record and
threads: (this is what I found after googling)
Thread.abort_on_exception = true
=> true
100.times do
Thread.new do
Client.find(:first)
end
end
this throws an exception... So

Sobreponer dos mapas
Hola,
library(PBSmapping)
estados <- importShapefile(?Entidades_2013.shp") #Aquí cargamos las entidades federativas (32 entidades)
zonas <- importShapefile(?zm.shp?) #Aquí cargamos las zonas metropolitanas del país

exclude a column in save!
Hi all,
I have a column that peeks its value from a sequence (postgres) some
times. Other times, I set it to a certain value.
This column has a default value of "nextval(''the_sequence'')"... When I
want that this column peeks the value from the sequence, I do this:
obj = Mymodel.new
obj.some_column1 = blah
obj.some_column2 = blah
obj.some_column3 = blah
obj.save!

ylim in barplot()
Thank you David,
That's a nice workaround using plotrix::barp(), but that doesn't explain
why ylim doesn't work as intended (or at least, as I expect it to work),
or why xpd has no influence when using devEMF::emf()...
The problem with saving directly in RStudio is that it requires to
manually save the plot, and this becomes troublesome when there are a
lot of plot commands in a

php application inside rails public directory?
Hi all,
I need to install cerberus inside my rails app''s public directory... I
agree that the best method would be to put the whole php app in it''s own
subdomain, but for now (i''m just testing) that''s not possible...
What would be the way to do that?
thanks!

ylim in barplot()
Dear useRs,
I'm having troubles with using ylim in barplot(): even though I reduce
the y-scale using ylim, the bars still extend down to 0into the x-labels.
The sample data is below, and here is the code.
#This works fine but I would like to plot only from 50 to 70:
barplot(t(mydata), beside=TRUE, col=c("orange", "green", "yellow",
"purple"),
