Email out of Rescue
I''m trying to set up a means to automatically send an email from certain parts of troubled code, that is, very often, code that might appear in the Rescue predicate of a begin.....rescue, so as to track down issues remotely. Surely there must be a gem for such? If not, how might one construct something like this in code? TIA, RVic -- You received this message because you are

Handling timeouts?
Hi Guys, Thanks for Unicorn, it makes my world rock. You guy have done a wonderful job and also huge thanks to the predecessors too. The default timeout on my Rails app is 30 seconds. The app works fine most of the time but there are some parts of the app which are slow and occasionally totter over the 30 sec response time and timeout. Is there a clean way for me to hook into timeouts and notify

rails, passenger, and images
Just switched over to passenger for development and production for my rails app. Liking it so far. My problem is my image_links, stylesheet_tag_links, and javascript_tag_links are all adding "http://localhost:3000 to the generated links. I got around the stylesheet and js links by not using the helpers. I can access my all of my assets directly via http://dating.local/stylesheets/all.css,

Nginx + Phusion Passenger 3 problem with "504 Gateway time-out"
Hi, I have a Rails 3.2 app. There is a specific request that takes a long time to execute. The context is, the user uploads a pdf, and then we have some processing through carrierwave + rmagick that generate a jpeg from the first page of the document. Everything works in dev mode using both webrick and thin. The problem happens on the prod environment with Nginx + Passenger. The request takes a

Rails 3.1.rc1 + gem coffee-script - WEBrick and Unicorn hangs.
Environment: rvm ruby 1.9.2-p180 rails 3.1.rc1 Conditions: gem "coffee-script" # in Gemfile at least one file with .js.coffee (even empty inside) in app/assets Result: WEBrick or Unicorn hangs. Only kill -9 <pid> helps. P.S. What additional info should I provide? -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "Ruby on Rails: Core" group.

Learning Ruby on Rails 3.1 - deployment - Error (cs.jpg isn't precompiled)
Hi guys, I''ve followed the Agile Web Development with Rails book and I''m up to deployment. I started a Ubuntu 10.1 LTS server on Amazon EC2 for testing, got Apache 2, mysql, rvm, ruby 1.9.2, rails 3.1 and phusion passenger up and running as per the book. When I come to running the actual site, it says "We''re sorry, but something went wrong." In

stop/start workers "by need"
Hello to everybody. I making shared hosting for rails and rack applications. For app. server i userd phusion passenger, but after some issues with that, want to migrate to unicorn. Is there any way to make unicorn stop all workers and start them on first request? It''ll be really great to have this opportunity. >No subscription is needed to post to the mailing list, let us know

Background jobs with #fork
Hi I''ve migrated from Passenger to Unicorn about a week ago. It''s great. Great transparency and management, thanks for this great software! A few of my Rails applications start background jobs using Kernel#fork. Of course, the ActiveRecord connections are closed and reopened again in the parent and child processes. The child process also does its job. Unfortunately, it seems

Multiple rack applications on the same server with unicorn
If I''m running two rails apps on the same server using Unicorn, I have to run two instances of Unicorn, right? If so, then here''s a place where passenger might win in terms of memory use, as the rails code will be loaded into memory twice, right? I''m still probably going with Unicorn, but just exploring this first. Thanks, John

running passenger + nginx
hi guys, Assuming I made some changes to the source code. My production environment runs on passenger and nginx. How do I restart passenger and nginx with minimal downtime? Surely I can''t do a "w" on the terminal because a server will not always be in zero load. Would love to hear some recommendations. PS- I have read on unicorn

murdering high-memory workers and auto-scaling
Two ideas, one more controversial than the other. First: auto-killing bloated workers.?My current app has some memory leakage that wasn''t really visible on our older passenger setup, since the auto-scaling meant that bloated workers got killed periodically. In a perfect world, we''d find and patch all of the leaks, but in the meantime (and as a safety net) I''d like to get

Deploying with Passenger question
Hi, I followed the instructions for deploying a site with Passenger from the screencast that is on the Phusion Passenger site and it didn''t work. I am using Dreamhost to host my site- could the problem be on their end? Someone suggested that I do: passenger-install-apache2-module on my command line but I already did that when I first installed Passenger and the Passenger Pref pane

Detecting unicorn / defining after_fork after master startup
Hey everyone, Working on an engine for rails that needs specialized behavior with forking and I had a couple questions. 1. What is the best way to determine whether the app is indeed running inside a unicorn server? Most of the attempts I can find to detect check to see if the main modules for Unicorn are defined, but this really only checks to see that Unicorn is present, not that you are

AMQP and Unicorn (mq gem)
Hi all, I''m having issues with Unicorn and connecting to RabbitMQ using the tmm1-amqp gem. I''ve tried lots of approaches. The classic initializer with Thread.new { EM.run } for the Rails app and even tried using the Qusion library. (https://github.com/danielsdeleo/qusion) I''ve made a simple mod to Qusion for it to monkey patch unicorn too. The code looks

Rails 3 with Mongrel possible?
After much fiddling and googling, it seems to me that Mongrel, even the 1.2.0pre2 release is not compatible with Rails 3 -- is that true? When I start up a new Rails 3 project (i.e. one fresh after a `rails new` command), mongrel appears to start (creates a pid file, and reports no errors on the CLI), but the app does not load in the browser and I find this in the mongrel.log

does unicorn fork like phusion?
Does unicorn work like phusion in that it automatically forks based on traffic levels? Or is that what thin does also? -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "Ruby on Rails: Talk" group.
