xfontsel
I was reading where xfontsel is the OLD method of selecting fonts before antialiasing. What is the new method to show available fonts on the system and select them? How do I list or show the available anti-aliases fonts? Jerry

Error: Widget field13 has zero width and/or height
Greetings, An update via cvsup (attempting to chase 5.4 stable) on 2006-02-20 @2:40 PM resulted in a couple of disappointments; 1) after re-building the kernel (cvsupped the SRC on SMP as well) and installing it. I performed a build/ install world and portupgrade -a. The portupgrade -a took 2 full days on a base of 246 installed ports. And resulted in a *465 installed ports base*. Ouch! It's

Help with fonts
I recently changed to a new computer and reinstalled linux. I'm not happy with the current fonts and I see that the whole fonts area has been revamped, so any old notes I have are obsolete. Can anyone help me out? The first and major issue is that when an installation program I am running tries to display "C:\Program Files" it comes out looking like CWProgram Files. Having

Symbol Fonts under Wine
Hello! I have a specialized math typesetting programming that uses its own special symbol fonts. The fonts are TrueType. I am using XFree86 version 4.0.1 running on FreeBSD 4.2, with the FreeType module loaded. All of my regular TrueType fonts work fine with X programs and under Wine. The symbol TrueType fonts work fine with X programs (such as xfontsel or xfd), but under Wine, many of the

Font / charset encoding problem?
I have successfully installed and launched Sibelius (music typesetting software) on linux (with codeweavers preview 4, w/ a fake_windows install). It works fairly well, and would probably deserve a 4 on the app database. Except for the fonts, which kind of defies the purpose of a typesetting software! Here are the symptoms and some log activities : * No musical symbols are displayed (except

Font alias trouble?
Sorry - I'm a newbie, so please be patient. I'm trying to use wine to run an application, and it seems to be working OK, except......there seems to be a problem with the Courier New font. When I look at xfontsel, it shows both courier new and courier. But when I try to look at something as Courier New in wine, it only shows numbers and a few punctuation bits. When I change the font

Just need to vent
Sometimes the direction of UI development in gnome really angers me. For example, when selecting a font for the gedit text editor - there is no way to ask it to only show monospace fonts. It's a fricken text editor, that should be the default - meaning you have to do something special to get fonts shown that aren't monospace. Seriously, who is in charge with the UI design in gnome?

Set font and size in xterm
I have a situation where gnome console does not handle vt102 escape sequences properly and therefor need to employ xterm instead. When I run xterm from a gnome terminal window I am presented with an extremely small terminal window employing an almost unreadably small font. I have attempted to set the font size using xrdb and a custom .Xresources file. I can change the colour scheme. I can

possible bug: dev.copy / could not find any X11 fonts
Hi, I am experiencing something strange, and thought I would ask before reporting a bug. I trimmed it down to a self-contained example, attached as an R file. The purpose of the functions is to save the plots into a ps file and simultaneously plot them on an x11 device, but don't open a new one if there is already one opened (I don't want the repositioning / flicker). When running the

MiscFixed fonts in CentOS 5.5
Hi, I just did a fresh install of CentOS 5.5, as usual : base system, X Window system, GNOME, and then the apps I need. The MiscFixed fonts don't seem to be available in GNOME Terminal anymore. Has the package been renamed? Any idea where they went? It's my favourite font for the terminal. Cheers, Niki

size of text and numbers in graphs (PR#349)
Hi! Since installation of R 0.90 there are problems with the size of text and numbers also in the x11-device (I reported about similar problems with the postscript device recently). For numbers and letters a different size is used: plot(1:10,1:10,type="n") text(2,8,"F5F5F5F5F5") text(2,7,"F5F5F5F5F5",cex=2) The same problem is also found in the postscript

R | vnc | X11 fonts
Greetings - Users of the box I'm putting together will need to be able to run R remotely, using a virtual desktop. One approach (that I'm trying) is to use VNC. So far, I can get the remote gnome desktop up on the server (running Fedora Core 5), and can start R from a terminal. However, for a lot of the R scripts I've tried, I get 'font errors' - the general error message

Some problems with X11
Hi, I am really new with R, so I don't know anything about it. I have written a script (attached) which tries to do really basic stuff (such as computing basic statistics and basic plots). When I try to plot a histogram and pairs, for example, I get the following message: > source("project.R") Loading required package: sp
