remote rsync process dies, local hangs
I've got an rsync job which is consistently failing, but I've been
unable to diagnose the problem. FAQ/Google/docs/etc. checked and
no luck.
Basically, it looks like the rsync process invoked on the far end
is exiting, and then the local process waits until the timeout and
exits.
Both systems are Sun boxes, Ultra 10 or better with 256+ MB of memory.
Rsync version is 2.5.0 on the local

wavelet toolbox
Is there a wavelet toolbox in R available that can be compared to the
Matlab toolbox for wavelets. Does this toolbox offer the possibility to
calculated approximations with different wavelets such as Daubechies 2,
Daubechies 3, etc, Symmlet 3, Symmlets 5, etc, Coiflets and so on. I
have tried to proceed in this way but I was only able to use one sort of
wavelets with a pre-fixed order (i.e.

PhD position in the field of combining Hyperspectral and Radar (L-Band) Remote Sensing of Vegetation
The Helmholtz Alliance of Earth System Dynamics aims at the development
of innovative remote sensing products based on the newest satellite
missions. The focus here is on quantifying dynamic processes within the
bio-, hydro-, geo- and cryosphere to monitor and understand
environmental change on a global scale.
The Alliance will be the nucleus within an innovative network of more

R equivalent to Matlab's Bayes net toolbox
Hi,
I'm attending summer School at UCLA (IPAM) on "probabilistics models of
cognition". I have been an R-user since v. 1.4.1, but was trained in the
frequentist tradition (as most psychologists!). I found that all faculty
here use matlab and Murphy's bayes net toolbox. I have not had the need to
use matlab before, and would love to stick to R for graphics models and

Hello my friends
Today at FISL (International Forum of Free Software), I''ve had the

The framework, itself is really weak in comparison to rails, but... When the
guy who was making the presentation show the NEW 0.9 TurboGears Toolbox I''ve

help! complete the reviewer's suggest: carry out GA+GP (gaussian process)!
Hello, all experts,
My major is computer-aied drug design ( main QSAR).
Now, my paper need be reviesed, and one reviewer ask me do genetic algorithm
coupled with gaussian process method (GA+GP).
my data:
training set: 191*106
test set: 73*106
here, I need use GA+GP to do variable selection when building the model.
In R, there are not GA package like in matlab

CentOS 7 + HPLIP = blank page
Hi,
I just installed CentOS 7 + KDE on a new workstation in my office. I
tried to setup my printer, but the test page is blank. Here's some details.
The printer is an HP OfficeJet 8600 Pro. It works perfectly with all
other desktop clients running Slackware Linux and HPLIP.
I installed hplip and hplip-gui, launched HP Toolbox and then setup the
printer - a network printer - which is mainly

Shutdown CentOS VM when closing VMWare Workstation
Hello,
I'm using CentOS 5.5 / 16bit as a virtual machine in VMWare Workstation
and have installed the "VMWare Tools" by running vmware-install.pl and
vmware-config-tools.pl but can't figure out how to make the VM shutdown,
when I shutdown the Windows PC hosting it.
Does anybody please have any hints or scripts?
Do I need to use any VMWare modules if I just want to shutdown the

psychometric functions
Hi,
I want to fit some psychophysical data with cumulative gaussians. There is
quite a convenient toolbox for matlab called 'psignifit' (formerly known as
'psychofit'). It allows the lower bound of the sigmoid to vary slightly from
zero, aswell as the upper bound to vary from one. with these two free
parameters, the fitted function is less sensitive to noisy data and
outliers.

cups & hp-toolbox
Hello,
I installed a printer (HP LaserJet 4350n) via CUPS Web Interface.
Following this when I run hp-toolbox a dialog claiming that "No
Installed HP Devices Found" is displayed.
This is true even when I am the root user.
This worked as expected on RHEL4 on the same computer (Thinkpad X31)
with the same printer.
Any thoughts will be appreciated.
Thanks,

finding "clusters" in 2-dimensional data
hi,
i have done a time-frequency analysis on magnetencephalographic data
under different conditions. the matrices for each condition are three
dimensional: frequency x time x subject.
to identify time-frequency "areas" of interest i would first calculate a
simple t-test for each time frequency point. this is straightforward and
for each comparison i have a frequency x time

I''ve noticed quite a few folks asking about training surrounding Ruby on
Rails. Marakana provides training as well as free resources surrounding
Ruby and Rails: http://marakana.com/s/tags/ruby so hopefully this
information is helpful.

[tbox-l] AIX - Compilation issues with openssh
AIX Toolbox builds openssh with vac.C 5.0.2.0, and configures with very few

You should be just fine with CentOS for most cases. Check out the new Fedora
Toolbox command ('toolbox') ? this makes it super-easy to launch and
maintain "pet" containers using podman, and
