Q about dpi, fonts, gnome, Xorg etc
This has been puzzling me for some time and despite bothering Auntie Google rather a lot, I've yet to find a satisfying answer. As an old-time (since 1981) unix and X guy, I've generally been fairly well-able to get fonts to behave in a rational manner. My needs are pretty simple - I just want 8-point (or 9-point etc) fonts to appear on the screen as 8-point font - ie more or less 8 *

fontconfig and FT_Get_BDF_Property
Hi all, After upgrading my fontconfig to 2.2.0, fc-cache -vf gives me an error: /usr/libexec/ld-elf.so.1: /usr/X11R6/lib/libfontconfig.so.1: Undefined symbol "FT_Get_BDF_Property" when it tries to build the cache for non bitmapped fonts. I have: 1. updated my CVS ports tree 2. rebuilt fontconfig, freetype, expat and Xft using portupgrade (portupgrade -frR ) 3. rebuilt my all

Yum Transaction Check Error: package freetype-2.1.9-1.2.2.el4.rf
Hello list friends, I got the following error during yum update. How should I proceed to eliminate the probelm? (I thought perhaps to uninstall the .i386 package -- but there are some 15-20 other packages depending on it...) Repositories: dries, kbs-CentOS-Extras, update, rpmforge, base, addons, extras FWIW: the protectbase plugin was added on 2006-07-10. Thanks in advance, Itay

Recommended Packages document
Fresh install of Debian Etch. Before I install wine (from winehq), I'd like to double check something about the following document. I've only included the portion refering to Debian. http://wiki.winehq.org/Recommended_Packages The document was last edited 2007-10-07 15:26:02. My question is about the last comment about freeglut3-dev. Still required or not, would there be any problems if I

[LLVMdev] Compiling FreeType 2.1.9 with LLVM 1.4
LLVM developers intent on world domination? Now that you've uncovered their secret, they'll have to eliminate you, you know :-) I don't have a working LLVM system right now (in the middle of building a new FreeBSD system), but I did take a look at the code. The heavy use of macros makes it hard to tell exactly what the compiler is seeing. Could you capture the output of the C

Quick notes on R with F7
Hi all, Just a quick heads up that I made the plunge into F7 this week. R version 2.5.0 Patched (2007-06-05 r41831) compiles and passes make check-all. F7 is using: [marcs at Bellerophon ~]$ gcc --version gcc (GCC) 4.1.2 20070502 (Red Hat 4.1.2-12) Some quick F7 notes: 1. Do a clean install rather than an 'in place' upgrade from FC6 or a prior version. There are a lot of changes,

ruby install.rb setup failed
Hi! I can''t run fxruby setup on FreeBSD 6 (amd64, 2x opteron) I had no problems with Fox ./configure --with-shape --enable-threadsafe --enable-cups \ --with-x --with-xft --with-xcursor --with-xrandr --with-xim \ --with-profiling --with-opengl && make && make install but I get errors when I try to setup fxruby: (config shows no errors) ruby install.rb config -- \

XFree86-devel package error
I'm not sure if this has been brought up before, but there is error with the XFree86-devel package on CentOS3. Both gccmakedep and xft-config are broken symlinks to archexec in the folder /usr/X11R6/bin. Is there another RPM that provides archexec? This is not a problem on CentOS4. It does look like RHEL suffers from the same problem. -- Regards, John Quaglieri InterServer, Inc

[LLVMdev] Compiling FreeType 2.1.9 with LLVM 1.4
Adam, I recant my previous message. I built FreeType with GCC not LLVMGCC by accident (I shoulda checked!). The thing is, FreeType's makefiles don't respect environment variables. So, I did this: CC=/path/to/llvmgcc CXX=/path/to/llvmg++ configure make and was able to reproduce the problem. Not sure what's up with that but as Misha pointed out, llvmgcc isn't any

[ANNOUNCE] libXfont2 2.0.4
libXfont provides the core of the legacy X11 font system, handling the index files (fonts.dir, fonts.alias, fonts.scale), the various font file formats, and rasterizing them. It is used by the X servers, and will eventually be used by the X Font Server (xfs), but should not be used by normal X11 clients. X11 clients access fonts via either the new APIs in libXft, or the legacy APIs in libX11.

Command line not responding
Running 9.0-Stable on an i386. Whenever I type a command at the prompt I get the output /usr/local/lib/libintl.so.9: Undefined symbol "_ThreadRuneLocale" and nothing else - the command will not run. Just the above output. Commands like "ls" and "exit" work, but not much else. This happends whether I am logged in a user or as root. Cannot even halt the system from

[LLVMdev] Re: Compiling FreeType 2.1.9 with LLVM 1.4
Adam sent me his tar file and only one file in it needs to be attached to a bug report, and it's only about 260KB. The initialization that causes the errors is below. I'm sure I can prune it down significantly. static const FT_Frame_Field header_fields[] = { { ft_frame_start, 0, 54 }, { ft_frame_ulong_be, (FT_Byte)sizeof ( ((TT_Header*)0)->Table_Version ),
