Centos7 Annoyances
Folks
I'm sure the Centos team has done a yeoman's job getting Centos7
ready, and that the Redhat team has done marvels in creating rhel7,
but here's a little voice from a personal hobbyist user.
Background:
('ve been maintaining several remote servers since Redhat 6 days,
migrating from that to Whitebox, then Centos, and things have been
running as expected including the

Multi-button form
It cannot be this difficult, especially in rails. Here is my form code

{:method => :get, :class => ''form''}) do %>

Using Jquery plugin "tokenInput" with rails
Hi,
I made a contact manager app using rails. I added TokenInput plugin to
introduce an instant contact search functionality in it. Tried following a
railscast http://railscasts.com/episodes/258-token-fields but have been
struggling with it for a while. Following is the code I use in my view
<%= form_tag({:action => ''show'', :id => @contact_tokens}, :remote =>

form_tag for search bar with Rails 3.0.5
I have a controller and view that should be providing a search bar
that brings up that brings up a selected record on submission. I have
tried several variations, including just specifying the assets_path,
but usually end up with either an error or a submission to the index
action, rather than the show action. Currently, I have the following
in my index.html.haml:
= form_tag({:controller =>

Auto-increment lost during migration.
Hi. I get some strange results when using rename_column on a primary
key in a migration. It seems like the migration script removes the
auto-increment property if you rename a column.
This is a minimal example.
create_table :foo, :primary_key => :foo_id do |t|
t.column "name", :string
end
# renaming the primary key makes auto-increment disappear.

FormBuilder-friendly labels?
I''m trying to find a good way to emit <label> tags inside a form_for()
block, without needing to repeat the name of the instance variable
constantly. Is there a better way to do this than the snippet below,
or do I need to do a little extension to the FormBuilder itself?
<% form_for :long_example_name, @long_example_name,

when (not) to use belongs_to
I know you get a lot of questions like this, but I couldn''t find one which
answers exactly what I''m after. I''m reasonably new to rails, and I''m having
a bit of trouble with when to use belongs_to. On the rails wiki (
http://wiki.rubyonrails.org/rails/pages/belongs_to), it says "In general,
the Foo model belongs_to :bar if the foo table has a bar_id foreign

Create polymorphic resources
Hi
I have created a polymorphic association for comments since I need
commenting functionality on several models. The issue is that when I create
the comment in my Commets#create action, I really don''t know what type the
parent is of.
So, let''s say I have Foo, Bar and Comment. Comment have this:
belongs_to :commentable, polymorphic: true
And Foo and Bar both have:

accepts_nested_attributes_for :has_many :through => 'bug?'
Hey guys & ladies!
I''ve got the following relationship which i''m trying to get
accepts_nested_attributes to work with. But when i submit my form, it

Converting observe_field to UJS in Rails 3
I am trying to rewrite my website in Rails 3 and Ruby 1.9.2.
Can some one help me convert my observe_field which is working under
Rails 2.3.5 to Rails 3. I would like to avoid using JQuery as over the
last year everything I have tried in JQuery has failed, including this
one. Perhaps due to my lack of knowledge. I would not like to install
the legacy upgrade.
What I have in my website is several

n-way joins
Hi,
I''m somewhat of a Rails newbie and am trying to understand how to
formulate n-way (3 or 4 way) joins in Rails (where the join tables
contain extra data as well.)
Let me give you my basic entities:
foos
id - pk
name - unique
bars
id - pk
name - unique
bazs
id - pk
name - unique
frozs
id - pk
name - unique
then i have two separate join tables:
foos_bars_bazs - 3 way join

find_by_sql with :include?
When you use find, you can include related objects with include so that
both objects get instantiated in the results, e.g. Foo.find(:all,
:include => :bar).
But when you use find_by_sql, is there a way to do this? You could
definitely write the find_by_sql SQL to join Foo and Bar tables:
Foo.find_by_sql("SELECT foo.*, bar.* from foo, bar where foo.bar_id =
bar.id")
But is there a
