installing perl module in centos/rpmforge vs. cpan methods
Hi, I just used RPMforge package perl-Mail-Sender, and am looking at the perl cpan site for info, anyone got a simple way to determine if the module is working properly? I am trying to use the cpan info, but it's a bit cryptic (as perl is wont to be). -it says to use this: #!/usr/local/bin/perl use ExtUtils::Installed; my $instmod = ExtUtils::Installed->new(); foreach my $module

perl 5.8.5-36.el4_5.2
Hi all, Since upgrading to perl 5.8.5-36.el4_5.2 I have had no end of problems, starting with needing compress::zlib which I got from rpmforge, then I had to reinstall scalar::util to get mailscanner working but now I can't install or upgrade any perl modules. Has anyone else had problems or can someone tell me what I've done wrong please? regards tom

Problems running RSPerl w. SuSe 9.0 / Perl 5.8.1
Hi, installation of RSPerl works fine without errors. Running RSPerl does not work at all. If I start R, and then enter this command: library(RSPerl) this error appears: ----------------- > library(RSPerl) Error in dyn.load(x, as.logical(local), as.logical(now)) : unable to load shared library "/usr/local/lib/R/library/RSPerl/libs/RSPerl.so":

Installation 2.7.1 [requires Perl >= 5.8.0]
Hi there, I am currently working in a research institute and I have only a reduced account. My aim is to install the New version of R under my own directory to prove the advantages of this version to my IT service to lead them to install it on the full server. So I download the last .tar.gz file I used "gunzip" and "tar -xf" without any problems (hopefully!) But when I

Sections 5.8.1 and 5.8.2 of Writing R Extensions (LinkingTo)
Hello, In Sections 5.8.1 and 5.8.2 of Writing R Extensions the following pattern is suggested for getting the path to a file in another package: PKGB_PATH=‘echo ’library(packB); cat(system.file("libs", package="packB"))’ \ | ${R_HOME}/bin/R --vanilla --slave‘ Is the library(packB) really needed here? It is not needed on two systems that I have tested: Windows and Linux. What

mod_perl and httpd2
I've got httpd and mod_perl installed, but I seem to have an application that requires part of mod_perl that doesn't seem to be properly installed into perl, notably, the 'Apache' portion. To 'fix' this, cpan would like to install either mod_perl-1.29, or alternatively to install mod_perl-2.0.2. 1.29 doesn't seem smart, and 2.0.2 absolutely will not install over the

ppmtolss16 and RedHat 8.0/perl 5.8.0
Okay, what's the deal? How come ppmtolss16 always terminates with "Premature EOF"? A previous poster said he fixed it by using a different conversion routine, but that doesn't help me at all. In fact, it appears to me the problem is with perl 5.8, not the file. Characters vs. bytes? Another poster said adding "use bytes" to ppmtolss16 fixed the error. That may

CentOS 5.4 .x86_64 and perl.i386
To All, Thanks to the CentOS guys for 5.4; sure appreciate your work. I have one question. I had to remove perl-5.8.8-18.el5_3.1.i386 on two x86_64 machines in order to get perl.x86_64 4:5.8.8-27.el5 to update. Does this represent a change from 5.3 to 5.4 and should I be concerned about the loss of perl-5.8.8-18.el5_3.1.i386. So far I have not found anything broken. Greg Ennis

recompiled mod_perl insists on old perl dependency
Hello, In order to overcome a known performance bug in perl-5.8.8-10 in centos 5 (see https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=196836) I downloaded the perl package from fedora 8 (http://mirror.internode.on.net/pub/fedora/linux/releases/8/Fedora/source/SRPMS/perl-5.8.8-30.fc8.src.rpm) and mod_perl
