issue with rescue_action_in_public! and testing 404 responses
Hello, I''m new to rails and I''m trying to wrap my heads around how to spec controllers using RSpec (using rails 3rc1 and rspec 2.0.0.beta.19). The problem I''ve run into is when I want to test that my controllers respond with a 404 for unfound records. Whenever I run the spec, the ActiveRecord::RecordNotFound exception is not caught by rails, causing the spec

Shared behavior and_raise problem, and site aestetics
Hello, Is anyone else having trouble with the and_raise method on mocks, with respect to shared behaviors? If I do the following instead: foo.should_receive(:bar).and_return { raise } everything seems to work. I have been supplying no arguments to and_raise, by the way. Also, you may want to make the background in the code examples on the home page a little lighter. I am hardly able to

long jumping out of code in specs
I wrote this abomination just now, and wonder if anyone else has had experience with the pattern behind it. In short, I''m specing an after_create hook on an ActiveRecord model, that calls a bunch of private methods. Instead of stubbing all those private methods (which is verboten anyway, as well as impossible because creating the object which owns those methods is what I''m

I tried this: @item.increment!(''views'') But Rails say: wrong number of arguments (1 for 0) And the docs say (under instance methods): increment!(attribute) Say what? What say you? Joe -- Posted via http://www.ruby-forum.com/.

Problems with raising errors on a mocked object
I''m trying to mock a object to raise a certain error. By doing so I get a ArgumentError on ActiveRecord''s save! method: http://pastie.caboo.se/85628 I''ve tried to debug it but just can''t seem to find what I''m doing wrong. Any help is greatly appreciated. Cheers, Eivind Uggedal

Puzzled with form on multiple table rows
I''ve got a table of events, and each event has a boolean attribute is_ten_event. On each row of the table is a chekbox to edit the value of is_ten_event, so that multiple rows can be edited with one submit. In order to allow boxes to be un-checked as well, the logic in the controller works like this get array of events from checkboxes that are ticked. make all events.is_ten_event =

rescue
Hi, whats the correct way to spec a rescue? This will raise it but doesnt test my code''s response # controller def edit @foo = Foo.find(params[:id]) rescue flash[:notice] = "Unknown foo #{params[:id]}" redirect_to foos_path end # spec it "should flash error if not found" do Foo.should_receive(:find).and_raise get :edit, :id

Action Controller ::MethodNotAllowed

Failing to raise an exception in a stub
I''ve come across rather strange behaviour when trying to raise an exception in a stubbed method. I''m speccing the behaviour of a Rails create action, where I''m using save! to catch failed saves. In the case of working save, I''m using the following stub: @client.stub!(:save!).and_return(true) which works fine. However, in the negative case,

Weird failing spec
Hi guys, I have a weird failing spec, for which I just cannot figure out the reason of failure. I''m now rewriting my controller specs based on the advice of David and Ashley, and I got stuck on this (see: [rspec- users] specing rescue, ensure and else blocks of an Exception). http://pastie.caboo.se/111221 I''ve tried everything, like stubbing out :update_attributes! , even

Rails 2.0 rescue_from
I am trying to use the new Rails 2.0 macro : rescue_from class PostsController < ApplicationController rescue_from ActiveRecord::RecordNotFound, :with => :deny_access ... def show @post = Post.find_by_id(params[:id]) raise ActiveRecord::RecordNotFound if @post.nil? #illegal access ..... end def deny_access respond_to do |format| format.html end end but the

ActiveRecord::RecordNotFound
Is there a specific reason why AR doesn''t raise a RecordNotFound exception in any exception other than "find(id)"? It would seem to be more consistent with the unified find if all types of find would raise a RecordNotFound exception. jim jim-rhf1kIDhBaeB8E1WFlbJj6xOck334EZe@public.gmane.org

Find by ID plus conditions -> ActiveRecord::RecordNotFound
Hi I''m trying to understand the AR find facilities, described here: http://api.rubyonrails.com/classes/ActiveRecord/Base.html#M000650 I have a list of ids that I want to retrieve, but have a condition that should restrict the list returned: return self.find( noteids, :conditions => [ "(private = 0 OR (private = 1 AND user_id = ?))", userid] ) According to the

Controller Isolation
Hi, I have a project that I had running under rspec 0.6.x and recently upgraded to 0.7.2. I am trying to isolate my controllers from the database as I go through and change all the specs to run under 0.7.2. I am having a problem where I need to make the create! method return the mocked object as well as raise RecordInvalid exception. Is this at all possible? I use the rescue statement in my

RecordNotFound bubbling thru to cucumber
Hello, I have a controller action that raises a RecordNotFound exception if you''re not allowed to see something. In my global application controller (application.rb), I catch these and render the 404 template. But when I run cucumber (using webrat), it''s getting the full stacktrace (the step blows up). Any ideas why? I have consider_all_requests_local turned off in my test.rb.

RSpec''ing model association callbacks
Hi all, i''m learning rspec and i must admit i really love it. But at the time i started learning it, i already developed my models classes and their callbacks. Now i''m trying to get a 100% coverage of my code but i cannot reach it because i do not understand how to spec my callbacks. Look at this for example: ----------------- User Model class User < ActiveRecord::Base
