Toto blog date issue - production only, localhost fine
I have this listed in the Toto Issues list on Git and know that it is
affecting one other person and so far no ideas... just want to throw it out
here if anyone else has had the issue or better yet has a fix:
I have a pretty stock instance of Toto. Locally I run it on thin and
everything works. When I push it to heroku, the index loads but on every
article, instead of showing the date in the

OT: Installing static binary of wkhtmltopdf
This is OT but have not been able to get a response elsewhere (stack
overflow and the project site itself) so thought someone here might know or
have some ideas.
First, I am using wkhtmltopdf stand alone without any of the rails gems as I
found that for some reason using WickedPdf or PdfKit my pdf''s did not
generate with active links from the links from those in the html. When I run

Thoughts on using WickedPDF vs PDFKit vs. Prawn or others for developing

:limit text mysql
I have a rails 3.rc app that I''m developing. I have a text entry in one
my models that can sometimes be quite big. I tried setting :limit =>
4294967296 on the text column in my migration file but this doesn''t seem
to have any effect. The column is till created as a TEXT column rather
than MEDIUMTEXT or LONGTEXT.
Does anyone have any idea why this might be happening? Is there

Search large XML file -- REXML slower than a slug, regex instantaneous
Got a question hopefully someone can answer -
I am working on functionality to match on certain nodes of a largish (65mb)
xml file. I implemented this with REXML and was 2 minutes and counting
before I killed the process. After this, I just opened the console and
loaded the file into a string and did a regex search for my data -- the
result was almost instantaneous.
The question is, if I can get

Shoulda issue: no more "should have_instance_methods" ?
I''m using Shoulda.
After copying the code here....
.... http://joshuaclayton.github.com/code/2009/07/14/should-act-as-list.html....
into my test_helper file so I can test acts_as_list, I came across
issues. For one I realized I had to get rid of the _ between the
"should" and "have" in past cases, but here, I get this error when I
run my unit test:

News: Heroku bought: Salesforce wants some Ruby love: $212m goes a long way
News to me. Probably worth considering when choosing your deployment
options.

Dreamforce 2010 Why would a company that spent 10 years delivering CRM
as a service drop $212m in cash and $27m in stock on a 30-person
startup that hosts Ruby on Rails apps for devs on Amazon?

Generating a PDF using popen and wkhtmltopdf
As described on wkhtmltopdf Google group
(http://code.google.com/p/wkhtmltopdf/issues/detail?id=162), I have a
problem generating a PDF while using popen and wkhtmltopdf.
wkhtmltopdf takes HTML code as input and ouputs a PDF file. Here is what
I''m doing:
command = ''"C:\Program Files\wkhtmltopdf\wkhtmltopdf.exe" - - -q''
IO.popen(command,

Generating views in pdf, rtf, or doc format
I have a requirement to generate views (list and show views, including
data and uploaded images) into a format that can be saved and/or
emailed. I''m looking for opinions on the easiest way to achieve this.
I''ve researched the use of both PDF::Writer and Prawn, and it seems that
to re-generate my views in pdf format will require a lot of work. Is
there an easier way using .rtf

HTML and CSS to PDF
I would like to take a rails page and convert it to a pdf. I don''t want
to have to generate the code myself for making the pdf, so it should
obey css. What is the best tool for doing this? Does the tool use the
standard css, or can I provide it alternative print-css?
Thanks in advance,
Jonathan Steel

precision multi-page printing
I am at a point where I will need to print checks in an application.
I guess the best way to describe this is that I am using pre-printed
checks and that I want to hit the prescribed areas with my text output.
Should I be doing something like PDF output like pdf-writer or other or
can I possibly do this with html and css?
My output will be check runs of many checks with 1 page per check.

Anything special needed to migrate test::unit tests from Rails 2x to Rails3?
Looks like I''ve gotten my app upgraded successfully, at least in the
browser. When I ''rake test'' I get no love. I know I can start digging
through the Rails rake tasks, first want to see if anyone has an idea what
is going on:

Did rails or shoulda go insane on the inflection of 'taxes'?
I have a model ''xp_jurisdiction_taxes'' which rails (3) created correctly.
Another model ''xp_jurisdiction_states'' has many :xp_jurisdiction_taxes.
In my spec I am using a shoulda helper to test the association but get the
following error. BTW, greped the whole project just in case and the string
''taxi'' exists nowhere.

Date parse - month and day reversed
I am getting the month and day reversed in parsing a date. I am wondering if
there is some intelligence in Ruby that knows that at the moment I am in
Mexico, as the parsing is working as if I was
"6/15/2008".to_date
=> ArgumentError: invalid date
"15/6/2008".to_date
=> Sun, 15 Jun 2008
What I really want is my date to be understood as month/day/year. Is there a
way to

Printed/PDF Reports (Text/Tabular/Summary) in Rails
The recent discussion about different graphing solutions made me
think. What is everyone using for general reports? Currently I have a
web based application at work that has roughly 20 different reports
ranging from simple tabular data with totaling at the bottom to
pretty, colorized, graphic logo''s,etc... going to clients, and
finally complex ones I hate to think about such as
