CentOS Based Fierwall Document
For those of you that either have an older revision of my firewall document, or are otherwise keeping track of it, there is a new version available. The current version of the document is version 3.1. It's changed rather significantly in some areas.

New update problems
yum apparently still can't cope with transparent proxies. I tried the following and got the yum http behind proxy error: Is there an ftp version of the mirrorlist or are those of us that have to use transparent proxies stuck without this new feature? [root at joshua ~]# yum install yum-plugin-fastestmirror Setting up Install Process Setting up repositories Reading repository metadata

Ferret 0.10 and Fields
Hey ... I just tried to convert my code to 0.10 .. But i''m currently not sure how to use fields.. i really like some of the new api.. its leaner and i like the fact that these strange consts are gone (like Ferret::Search::BooleanClause::Occur::MUST) .. I see that you''re now having Ferret::Index::FieldInfo to describe the fields of the index.. thats good.. and i now see that

Re: Contact the CentOS WebMaster (was FlameFest Firewall Doc stuff)
God help me I know I said let it die, but it was continued elsewhere also. I'll try to keep this forest fire in ONE location. Seeking contributors for Lustre User Manual
In hopes of improving the quality, coverage, and currency of the Lustre User Manual, I''m putting out a call to the Lustre community for contributors to this important resource. The user manual is especially important for new users to Lustre, but has fallen into some disrepair now that there is no longer a dedicated documentation writer for it. As well, there are many sections of the

RFC: On removing magic numbers assuming 8-bit bytes
A. This RFC outlines a proposal regarding non-8-bit-byte support that got positive reception at a Round Table at EuroLLVM19. The general topic has been brought up several times before and one good overview can be found in a FOSDEM 2017 presentation by Jones and Cook: https://archive.fosdem.org/2017/schedule/event/llvm_16_bit/ In a nutshell, the proposal is for the llvm community

Repost: Pluralization of non-noun names
People, I didn''t get an answer to this before so I am trying again: I could change an existing "policy" table to "policies" with no drama but the are a number of related tables ie: p_2quot p_addr p_cc p_cs p_direct p_div p_exss

Non-meritocratic t.&a. projects will be damned. Re: I am leaving llvm
What unmitigated bullshit. Your attempt at logic is laughable. You hold up threadbare stereotypes as the norm, when in reality they are little more than characters straight out of Central Casting. The "genius hermit who can't associate with people" is dumb and false. It's meant to excuse behavior that is unacceptable, when in reality a person who cannot interact with people is

extracting text contained in brackets ("[ ... ]") from a character string?
I have a text string that contains text within two brackets. e.g. "testdata[3]" "testdata[-4]", "testdata[-4g]", I wish to "extract" the string enclosed in brackets? What is a good way to do this? e.g. fun(testdata[3]) = '3' fun(testdata[-4g]) = '-4g' --------------------------------- Moody friends. Drama queens. Your life?

Samba installation discrepancies
Samba colleagues, I promise to limit my postings to this list to one message per day from now on, and to keep my messages focussed on very specific technical issues. I think I have gotten over my initial panic at the weirdly broken Samba installation and am now in a troubleshooting mode. The drama of all my Samba 3 difficulties now seems to be due to a faulty Samba installation. Symptoms

Cyberpower 1500AVR
All, I just had a power failure that caused me a little drama. This spurred me into trying to get NUT up on my cyberpower 1500 again. For about 6 months I tried to get it to work with the new power panel drive with no luck. Today I removed all the old files for NUT and installed the newest version I could find (2.4.3) and it works perfectly now with my UPS. Hopefully now I

Suggestions on initial CentOS 4.3 Install packages
Hello, all... I'm attempting to learn Linux (on a CentOS setup) by doing something productive at the same time. I've already installed it twice...once with a "full, just install everything" setup and another by following the Perfect CentOS 4.3 Web Server Setup instructions on HowToForge.com. Though I've had issues with both, I have a lot of patience and time is not a big

Can't seem to finish a randomForest.... Just goes and goe s!
When you have fairly large data, _do not use the formula interface_, as a couple of copies of the data would be made. Try simply: Myforest.rf <- randomForest(Mydata[, -46], Mydata[,46], ntrees=100, mtry=7) [Note that you don't need to set proximity (not proximities) or importance to FALSE, as that's the default already.] You might also want to use
