Unable to log out normally
I've posted this question to the Gnome users list, but so far no luck, so I thought I'd mention this here. A little while ago, I noticed that I was no longer able to log out from my GDM. I'm running the default GDM (2.16) that comes with CentOS, and this problem started up right about the same time that I updated to the 53.1.4 kernel (from the 8.1.15 version). As I've posted

Build environment for totem-2.16.7-7.el5_6.1.src.rpm
This package has a build requirement 'gecko-devel' which is fulfilled by 'xulrunner-devel'. But in the process of building the browser plugins two tools named 'xpidl' and 'xpt_link' are necessary. They werde once part of 'gecko-devel' but are now replaced by other tools. I haven't found any package that has these tools all the way back to 5.0. Maybe

Gnumeric
Hi, I am trying to install Gnumeric in CentOS 4 and I can't. It complains about quite a few dependencies failing. It suggested installing some postgresql librairies, openldap librairies... I did that, now I still get: dependencies failed: libmdb/libmdbsq/libsqlite/libxbase/libtds. Is there a yum repository that has them or a yum repository for gnumeric? I have tried Dag, he does not, he

CentOS 5 Evolution Update errors.
Folks, Evo update on my 4.x worked just fine. 5.0 generated a bunch of parsing errors preceded and followed by a couple of I/O errors that appear related to an unavailable URL. I first figured corruption on my node, so I yum erased evo, its - connector and -webcal units. The data-server removal looked as if it might remove half my Gnome desktop, so I left it in place. Then I did a selective

MySQL issues with kernel-2.6.18-53.1.6.el5.x86_64.rpm
Hi all! Just a word of warning: after updating a few of our x86_64 based web frontend boxes to the new kernel, we began to get weird MySQL timeouts. The problem went away again when we downgraded to the previous kernel-2.6.18-53.1.6.el5.x86_64.rpm regards, Bent Terp

Problems with yum not updating properly
Has anyone else seen this? I recently got the announcement about the xorg 1.5 update being available, so I ran yum update to get it. To my surprise, I found that yum did not see it at all. With some help from Karanbir (thanks again), we decided there might be something wrong with my repo path, so I checked it against the older one I had from 5.0 (which I saved, for some reason) and found that

crypto, readline and zlib libraries - Postgres install
I have the 5.x Centos DVD and loaded it. Please be gentle with me, as I'm nominally a FreeBSD kind of guy... :) Anyway, I'm trying to install Postgres and the three libraries in the subject line are missing off the base installation. I figured out how to load gcc using yum, but those libraries aren't there, and I need the former in particular in order to enable SSL for Postgres

Today's log - yum entries
Hi list, I have the following entries, below, in today's log file (for yesterday, 10th May). I don't run the automated yum-updated and didn't run a yum update yesterday, and no packages were installed. Obviously the entries are old. I was wondering if anyone could offer an explanation? Thanks, Ned --------------------- yum Begin ------------------------ Packages

Ques about 5 vs. 3 in CentOS-announce Digest, Vol 35, Issue 9
I don't know if I'm brain damaged this A.M. or what, but I can't figure (recall?) why this summary says CentOS 5 in the "Today's Topics", has "el5" and "centos.3" as well in the md5sum. Gentle chides for being dense this morning are accepted. TIA -- Bill

"yum update" did not update kernel on one box
This morning, I did "yum update" on my wife's box. It did not update the kernel. I ran the command again, and there is a response that no updates are available. Her box is a Compaq Evo D300v Celeron. During the past couple of days, when I did "yum update", on my daughters box and mine (Dell Dimensions), the kernel was updated and in the GRUB menus now, there are two (2)

Kernel panic in DomU when using swiotlb=force option
I'm trying to get a PVR-150 PCI card imported into a Xen DomU, however the driver blows up the kernel when loaded. The work around for this mentioned in various places is to use swiotlb=force on the DomU kernel. That leads to a fast and furious kernel panic. I've tried this with all Dom0 & DomU running kernel-xen-2.6.18-53.el5 kernel-xen-2.6.18-53.1.6.el5, bot x86 and 86_64
