OT-ish: GPG problem
I'm asking here because it is the best resource I know for knowledgeable
people. The problem in question occurs on my Fedora 9 box and Fedora 10
netbook, while another person, Chris, has the problem on a Mandriva 2009 box.
Whatever is causing it, that leads me to think that it's not distro-specific.
Both of us are using kmail.
Kgpg sees and lists all the keys on my keyring.

Could not connect to host box.domain.tld
I have used fetchmail/procmail/postfix/dovecot/kmail for some time on my mail
server, and have set this up on three or four machines in the past. I'm now
setting up a new server and having problems. I've reached the
thinking-in-circles stage, so need a prompt.
The box in question is called borg2.lydgate.lan, and resides at 192.168.0.40.
I can ping both borg2.lydgate.lan and

Security advice, please
My LAN is behind a Netgear router, which does NAT. On the CentOS server I
have fail2ban running. This morning my router reported 3 different IPs
attempting to send UDP packets to port 38950, Since each address is only seen
4-5 times, I presume that fail2ban took over after that.
GRC reports that ports are stealthed (port 143 was open, but is now closed),
but then:

What's special about port 19842?
I've had umpteen IPs knocking on this door yesterday. The router blocked
them, so it's not a problem, but why that port?

Dovecot and kmail IMAP resources
For some time now I have been trying to get IMAP resources working on KMail.
I have followed the docs from kde, but they tell how to configure cyrus IMAP,
so I've had to learn as I went along.
After a lot of help from the postfix list I now have a working sasl. The
ability of the user 'groupware' to log in with PLAIN has been checked in a
telnet session. Everything in KMail has

Another security question
I would like to be able to check my bank account while we are on holiday. I
know the bank's site is encrypted from the start - the login page is https and
Verisign-trust encrypted - but is there any risk in using public wireless
networks for jobs like this? It sounds secure enough, but maybe I'm
paranoid....

Where is gpg-agent?
The only obstacle now to running this box as the mail server is that I do read
and send mail on it occasionally, while working on something. I need
gpg-agent, but can't find how to get it. Is it merged into another package,
or do I simply have to look at other repositories?

Memory for crash kernel
During the bootup I see a message that the memory for crash kernel is not
within permissible range. What does it mean, and what should be done about
it?

Second user problems
I have dovecot (0.99.14 under FC4) set up and working beautifully for my mail,
handing on to procmail, and handling many subfolders. Today I needed to set
up a second user. I added his account in kmail and created a sub-folder, but
no sent-mail, trash etc. were created. I have sent test messages
and /var/log/maillog says they have been processed, but they are not arriving
in his inbox.

Getting printer to work under 5.2
Hi
I have a standard hplip install on my 5.2 box installed from the repos
(it originally was installed from the 5.1 disks and followed any upgrade
that may have occured in the transition to 5.2). My printer is a HP
Deskjet F4180 connecting via USB.
I can't get the printer to work. Documents manually printed from the
file menu in OO.o 2.3 stagnate in a print queue, while the print icon

Web server in a sandbox?
I'd like to understand better the sysadmin aspects of running a wiki. I
don't have, and don't intend to at this stage, a web server, but I do have
spare capacity on my LAN server box, where I'd like to install MediaWiki. I
found this article:

Would it be straightforward to follow those

Multiple copies of a message
I have a problem and I don't know which part of the mail chain could be
causing it, although dovecot does seem to be the most logical source.
I get multiple copies of messages to my Inbox. I have just deleted 24 copies
of a newsletter from Computer Shopper. The worst example I have seen of this
had more than 90 copies. This doesn't happen to any subfolder of Inbox, just

Which sasl?
I'm trying to set up imap resources in kmail, and from the logs it looks as
though I have to set up sasldb. I've found some documentation, but it seems
that I need to know whether I'm using sasl or sasl2. How can I tell? I seem
to have several packages installed that are returned with I query yum, and
both versions get mentions.

rsync question
Hi folks,
I've been trying to wrap my head around this for a bit, done my googling
and archive searching but I still can't seem to 'get' it.
Here goes:
I've a spare drive in my CentOS5.1 box, which (for testing now) I mount
manually under /mnt/backup
I want to backup the /home tree to that box nightly via rsync (cronjob),
so I tried this:
rsync -avrogz /home/

CentOS for non-tech user
I'm thinking of giving CentOS to a non-tech user for her new desktop. He
needs are small. She has been used to Mozilla for both mail and browsing, so
equivalents there are not a problem. She needs grip and lame, for her mp3s -
again no problem. In fact the only problem I can see is that gwenview doesn't
appear to have the kipi-plugins. I can see libkipi listed, but no plugins,
