Yum breaks after updating to CentOS 4.6
Hi everyone,
Yum on one my CentOS systems has decided to stop functioning after an
upgrade to CentOS 4.6. It's complaining about errors with
Python-SQLite packages?
Any ideas anyone? Here is what happens.

Unable to start Asterisk 1.4 on CentOS 4.4 (installed from ATrpms)
Hi Everyone,
I am still unable to start Asterisk 1.4 that I installed using ATrpms.
I was initially suspecting some permissions issues but it seems to me
that its more to do with a speex codec not loading properly.
Here is the message I get if I run asterisk -cvvvvvvvvvvvvvv

Yum missing dependency
I haven't run any updates on my systems recently, but now I'm trying to
get them up to date again. When I run a yum update, I get this error:
Error: Missing Dependency: initscripts >= 7.93.26.EL-1 is needed by
package httpd
I did a Google search, but I didn't find anything relating directly to
CentOS or RHEL and there was no fix suggested.
If it makes a difference, I am running

CentOS 3.9's up2date missing sources???
CentOS3.9 Users:
After applying all Updates to Upgrade from CentOS 3.8 CentOS 3.9 I find
up2date no longer works "correctly" (or shall I say NOT as before)...
Missing is the "sources" File!!! Is this how V 4.5.5-7 is supposed to be
or is the "sources" File omission an "error"???

Asterisk desktop tools for OS X
Hi everyone,
I have been long working on a project (http://asterisktools.org, to be
released under GPL) that aims to provide desktop tools for Macs. I am
finally getting to the release stages of this application and hope to
have an early BETA available next weekend.
If there is anybody who is interested in this tool, please send me an
email as I am looking for people who can test the

PHP 4.3.10 on CentOS 4 or CentOS 5
Hi Everyone,
I am in a fix with an installation for a client where I need PHP
version 4.3.10 or above (4.3.x, but not PHP 5). The application we are
trying to run will not run on PHP 5.
CentOS 4.5 provides PHP 4.3.9, is there a quick an easy way to have
PHP 4.3.10 available on either CentOS 4.5 or CentOS 5
Any pointers will be greatly appreciated.

qt3-devel packages
Hi Everyone,
I am trying to build rpms for a product called Rivendell for CentOS
4.4 (http://www.salemradiolabs.com/rivendell/) One of the packages
requires a package called qt3 and qt3-devel
All searches reveal this package to be available for SuSE. Any ideas
if this is available for CentOS/EL4? Or a src.rpm that I can use?
Thanks for your time.

yum vs up2date
Which is better? Why?
I know yum is the official update mechanism here and in Fedora Core, but
that doesn't make yum better than up2date any more than Windows NT was
better than OS/2.
Let's try to keep the discussion objective:-)
I'm asking, hoping for some insights into why RH might (apparently) be
moving to yum in preference to up2date (yum is now used within Anaconda).

build rpm fails
Hi everyone,
I am trying to get Asterisk 1.4 running on CentOS 4.4 (Kernel
2.6.9-42.0.10.ELsmp) and am having a lot of trouble getting asterisk
running on it. I had a fair bit of success with the ATrpms binaries
(Zaptel worked but asterisk failed to startup because it couldn't find
the speex modules).
I am trying to thus recompile the asterisk rpm for CentOS 4.4 with the
least amounts of

Well, I'm experiencing a similar problem with my setup... debian etch,

tried 'make menuselect', and going to the channels-part, chan_zap is

Can't find asterisk.ctl under CentOS installation
Hi Everyone,
I recently upgraded to Asterisk 1.4 using the RPMS at ATrpms.net on
CentOS 4.4, Asterisk starts up but when I start the console it reports
this error and drops out.
"Unable to connect to remote asterisk (does
/var/run/asterisk/asterisk.ctl exist)?"
I have checked to see that the file asterisk.ctl actually exists. Any
suggestions?

CallerID shows wrong values in manager interface
Hi everyone,
My manager interface seems to be producing wrong CallerIDs when
internal extensions call each other. Can anyone see anything wrong in
the configuration snippets pasted below? The following instance has
extension 101 call 103. The phone does show the right caller ID, but
notice that the manager interface has the CallerID as the target
number (103).
Thanks a lot for your time.

extension.conf doesn't reload?
Hi everyone,
I have just installed Asterisk 1.4.6 on CentOS 5. When I issues the
reload command in the asterisk command prompt, it doesn't seem to read
my configuration files. Any suggestions?

The 'reload' command is deprecated and will be removed in a future
release. Please use 'module reload' instead.

up2date dependency problem
Greetings, centos.
Looks like postinstall scriplet in CentOS4.4 distro requires
/sbin/restorecon utility, which in turn resides in policycoreutils
package. Meanwhile, up2date don't require policycoreutils.
It seems to that there is an error in dependencies for up2date.

Alert icon for yum
Hi all. I have a simple question: CentOS relies mostly on "yum" to
keep systems up to date, although I understand that like on RHEL,
"up2date" is also available. On my system I've run both KDE and GNOME
as Graphical Desktops under X (though I presently run GNOME), and I've
noticed that there is an applet called "CentOS Network Alert Icon" (from
