MS SQL server
Hello List,
I need to access some data a MS-SQL server ie run a stored procedure or
user-defined function or a select every so often maybe 3 times a day.
Have centos 4.5 on intel xeon. Is there an obvious certain-to-succeed
approach?
perl DBI + ODBC spings to mind, have not tried it yet - cannot access the
systems yet - need to make a good plan.
Am a bit concerned cos I dont know of an

Can't boot Syslinux from HD directly. Can indirectly?
I've installed Syslinux on a somewhat old system. The motherboard is
based on an Intel 440GX chipset (specifically it's the Supermicro
P6DGE if that means anything.) The harddrive has been split up into
partitions of one hidden FAT16 (marked as active) to which syslinux is
installed (hda1), one normal FAT32 which has windows and dos (hda2.)
It also has an extended partition containing

DVD Fab HD Decrypter, surpisingly better than windows
Hello,
DVD Fab HD Decrypter is a DVD copy program. The free version is
limited to decrypt and store the result onto HDD only.
Better than all other tools (that I tried), this program does not
have problems with some tricky copy protection methods. While the
best other program fails on about 50% of current DVD movies, DVD Fab
HD Decrypter took them all fine.
I tried to run DVD Fab HD Decrypter

Kickstart and CentOS 6...
Hey,
I am trying to upgrade my kickstart usb key to 6.0 and I ran into a few issues.
I boot with:
? append initrd=initrd.img ks=hd:sdb2:/ks.cfg repo=hd:sdb2:/centos
and in the ks.cfg I have:
? harddrive --partition=sdb2 --dir=/centos
and on sdb2 I have:
? sdb2:/centos/CentOS-6.0-x86_64-bin-DVD1.iso
? sdb2:/centos/CentOS-6.0-x86_64-bin-DVD2.iso
It fails from the beginning unless I add /images

CentOS Live CD for System Rescue - How to get full root access to HD?
Booting from the CentOS 5.2 Installation DVD (or the first
Installation CD), one can type "linux rescue" and then "chroot
/mnt/sysimage" and have full root access to the OS on the HD. For
future reference, I would like to know what I did wrong, the past
couple of days, when trying to use the CentOS 5.2 i386 Live CD, for
rescue. From a terminal, "su -" did not seem to

Old hd, new machine
What should I do to make an existing CentOS (5.4) disc boot up on a new
computer?
I just made on CentOS 5.3 installation on that machine, so I know the
hardware is compatible.
Would it be enough to boot with a DVD in rescue mode, or boot with
another hd, and install grub?

C6.5 - combine two DVD isos into one tree?
I have the two DVD isos for CentOS 6.5 mounted as loopback, on the mount
points /centos6 and /centos6a, and am trying to use them for PXE/KS
installation.
The problem I have is that the packages in /centos6a/Packages are not
found by the installer.
The host is a CentOS 5 system. Is there a way for me to overlay the second
DVD on the first without having to copy all the packages from both isos

RAID / OS Monitoring tools ?
Hi List;
I just got a new server (my first **real** server).
It's a dell 2900 :
quad core XEON (with a spare slot for a 2nd quad core chip)
8G memory (expandable to 64G)
8 hot swap SATA HD slots onboard
PERC6i RAID controller
etc
I initially setup the system / RAID as follows:
1) booted off the dell setup CD
2) walked through the RAID setup and formatted the drives
3) the setup bombed

Note that you don't have to add a scsi <controller> if you already have
one. You can add the drive to the existing one.

Best CPU config for dual-Xeon?
I have some beefy dual-Xeon servers that I will be using for Asterisk
VoIP applications (i.e. no Zaptel cards). Using 2.6.11-1.14_FC3smp
as the kernel (Fedora Core 3), and currently with Asterisk STABLE.
My question is concerning the CPU setup, as I've seen conflicting or
out-of-date suggestions: given the above config, should I have
hyper-threading turned on or off? Turned on appears like 4

Server HD failed and I think I am hosed
a hd in my server failed.
I noticed when I went to SSH in and get a copy of some files in /var/www/html
I tried to tar the files and I was told No, read-only file system.
I restarted and tried running FSCK manually (without -a or -p) and I get inode errors, short reads, etc.
I tried booting to my CentOS 53 install DVD. I do linux rescue and I get to where it wants to know where CentOS images

Issue with dvd/cdrom drive
Hi,
I'm having an issue with my Thinkpad P70 laptop/workstation. This system is
a dual boot,
windows 10 pro and centos 7. I have not needed to use the cdrom until now,
however the system does not see it in /dev. I know the cdrom works as I can
use it in windows 10 and when initially installing centos 7, I installed
from dvd media. I'm not sure what to check.
I do not see anything related

Audio flutter on OH323 output?
Hi, I'm using OH323, mostly with success, to interface Asterisk to
a provider's switch (World Telecom INX). I have noticed a particular
effect, and I wonder whether anyone else has seen the same?
The effect is audio flutter (almost like the flutter one gets on
MF or HF radio sometimes) which only happens intermittently.
Audio coming into Asterisk is unaffected, as proved by using the

Sending many faxes simultaneously with spandsp
I have a potential client that wants to send many faxes simultaneously,
over E1 trunks.
How CPU intensive is spandsp's txfax? How many concurrent faxes could
be sent by a decent CPU (e.g. Xeon 3GHz) before timing starts to get
disrupted?
Cheers
