What is eating my memory?
The tail of two systems and one hard drive.
I install centos 5 on a HD while it is in a Compaq with 256Mb memory.
After install, i am in graphics mode (Gnome) and top reports not quite
all 256Mb used.
Then I move the HD to a decTOP with 512Mb memory. I am running
non-graphics (init 3). I ssh into the unit and top reports not quite
all of that used.....
So what ate up more than 256Mb

Mongrel / RoR first page load times.
I am noticing considerably longer first page load times on most of my
rails apps running Rails (1.1.2) off Mongrel (0.13) on linux. After the
initial request everything seems to run OK. Has anybody else noticed
this and is there anyway to compensate.
Also following the instructions for working with unicode from the rails
wiki, the number of pages served drops noticeably. Are there any sites

Asterisk Memory Requirements
I have asterisk installed on a Dell 2850 dual-Xeon 3.0Ghz box with 2GB

Zaptel 1.0.7 with Digiums TE410 1xT1 RBS and 1xT1 PRI, Libpri 1.0.7 on
Fedora Core 3. My question; is this

Installing Google's Picasa for Linux on CentOS 5
I downloaded the .rpm file from Google and am trying to install
Picasa for Linux on CentOS 5. I get the below error. Is this because
I'm using SELinux or because of something else? I found a small
Picasa folder in /opt (24 items, 143.7 KB) but it seems to end there.
Picasa is one of the programs my wife uses on Windows. TIA!

Centos 6: Dell GX270 fails to power down (but reboots)
Hi,
am using latest C6 on a Dell GX270 with latest Bios.
It fails to power down but restarts when running
$ sudo poweroff
I tried some google hints for kernel boot option:
acpi=force
no help, looks like acpi is working anyway when looking in dmesg
acpi=off
makes e1000 nic fail to initialize
Any suggestions?

error creating Centos 5.1 x32 dum_U instance on CentOS5.1 x64
Nah, RHEL 5.1+ supports 32-bit domU (PAE and non PAE) on 64-bit dom0.
Actually RHEL Xen is 3.1 with the brain damaged 3.0 userland utilities.
