Saving an upload
I am creating a database for movies (films) and television shows (shows) that will have has_and_belongs_to_many relationships with the pictures table. Will acts_as_paranoid work with attachment_fu?
I''ve got a problem in that users are deleting a paranoid model through the application, including dependents. Some of these dependents are paranoid too, but not the attachments. (I''m using DB file storage.) I need to be able to un-delete these things and I''m now wondering if acts_as_paranoid will work with models that use attachment_fu? If so, in what model to I add the

To Chris Hall - Re: DB Modelling the Rails way - Opinions??
Chris, Finally got time to fully play with your suggestions. Had to re-code a bit of stuff but the concept works - just like a bought one :~). Many thanks for the solution, Kind Regards, Eric. For those curious - here''s what it was about; On Monday 02 January 2006 02:10, Eric Sloane tried to type something like: > Hi, > I''m trying to figure the most efficient way to

Problems with multiple ''id'' columns in a join_table
I have a problem declaring a relationship through a join_table ; the SQL generated by ActiveRecord is correct, but there are two columns called ''id'', and the final object gets the ''wrong'' column ... Here''s a more detailed description of the data, code, and problem :- There''s a People table, with id, name, and a few things. Also a

object class with STI and Polymorphic Assoc''s.
Hi, lets say I have a a table, "Linkings" that I am using for polymorphic associations. One of the associations is to the "person" table, and there are several other associations. "Person" has 2 types, "slacker" and "suckup". It is modelled as such: class Linking < ActiveRecord::Base belongs_to :person belongs_to :linkable, :polymorphic

changing the default behaviour of to_xml for has-many: associations
I recently submitted a patch to work around an issue I was having & added a new optional behaviour to the to_xml method but on further reflection I wonder if the default behaviour should be changed. The gory detail, documentation and test case is all here... http://dev.rubyonrails.org/ticket/7004 Here''s a brief example... class Person < ActiveRecord::Base has_many: children

Newbie - ActiveRecord relationships
So I''ve worked through Agile Web Development with Rails and I''m now trying my first little app to get into the swing of things. Its a task tracking app where people can create tasks and assign them to others, and also log time against the tasks. I''m having trouble working out the model relationships. This is what I''ve got so far, but its not right as

polymorphic_path not getting generated
Folks, I am trying to use the Savage Beast plugin in a polymorphic way. I have setup my model as below # Leaving out other details from models class Forum < ActiveRecord::Base has_one :recent_topic, :class_name => ''Topic'', :order => ''sticky desc, replied_at desc'' belongs_to :forum_owner, :polymorphic => true # Helps keep track of which

Polymorphic associations in reverse?
My app has an association that''s got me scratching my head. I have Users, and Images. A User has many Images. (Yes, another picture sharing app, but it''s for a small niche, and it doesn''t end in -r!) I would like to express a "Favorite" relationship between both Users to Users, and Users to Images. This seems like the opposite of the standard

bug rails activerecord association join
hi, I found a bug in ActiveRecord association SQL INNER JOIN codes. in has_many, has_one, habtm and belongs_to queries the foreign key is determined from the table name of reflection and self. but that''s worng because if you use a global prefix or suffix for your tables the foreign keys will be in format of PREFIX_CLASSNAME_SUFFIX_id which is wrong, because it breaks the advantage of

polymorphic,has_many through can not work?
Josh Susser tells in his blog that the opposite direction of polymorphic will get into trouble together with has_many through. This is the url: http://blog.hasmanythrough.com/articles/2006/04/03/polymorphic-through I do that according to Josh Susser''s procedure: class Tagging < ActiveRecord::Base belongs_to :tag belongs_to :taggable, :polymorphic => true belongs_to

Naming rights_roles join model using has_many :through and polymorphic associations
Hi. I have a couple of best practices questions regarding polymorphic associations, naming join tables and user permissions. Currently I have implemented the user authentication model from the rails recipes book. Basically it goes something like this: MODEL CLASSES: class User < ActiveRecord::Base has_and_belongs_to_many :roles end class Role < ActiveRecord::Base

possible to create polymorphic relationship with STI models?
I would like to associate a ‘product’ model with 3 models inherited from ‘image’: part, action and accessory. I have it working with Has_many :through relating products to images through attachments, I then have to determine the ‘type’ of the STI extension. This means i have to go product.images. While this is ok, i can see it getting tricky when i want to go products.images <<

Problem with has_many :through, :uniq => true with polymorph
Didn''t have quite enough space to describe it there...basically i''m having a problem with the :uniq option in my tags. I''m using acts_as_taggable_on_steroid which adds these associations to my Resource class: Resource has_many :taggings, :as => :taggable, :dependent => :destroy, :include => :tag has_many :tags, :through => :taggings, :uniq => true
