first app on Dreamhost with Passenger : "rails needs to know your username and password" ?
I am trying to deploy my first rails app with Dreamhost. I ftp''d over my existing app, turned on Passenger and pointed it to my /public directory. When I go to ''www.mydomain.com'' I get the ''Ruby on Rails: Welcome aboard'' default page, including the following: Getting started Here’s how to get rolling: 1. Create your databases and edit

Urgently Need Solution
I''m using scriptaculous'' SlideUp and SlideDown effects to animate a menu. Specifically, I SlideUp, make some CSS changes, and SlideDown. All works well, except that for a split second in between, the element''s display becomes ''none'' and the other menu item jump into the space. I haven''t been able to find any way to force an element to retain

Deploying with Passenger question
Hi, I followed the instructions for deploying a site with Passenger from the screencast that is on the Phusion Passenger site and it didn''t work. I am using Dreamhost to host my site- could the problem be on their end? Someone suggested that I do: passenger-install-apache2-module on my command line but I already did that when I first installed Passenger and the Passenger Pref pane

Effect Help
I posted the following earlier: "I need a way to do a blind up that makes the element APPEAR and a blind down that makes the element DISAPPEAR. In essence, the opposite of the current blindup/blinddown. Thoughts?" I think somebody responded in Dutch. Anyone else have any ideas? -- Yehuda Katz Web Developer (ph) 718.877.1325 (fax) 718.686.4288

1.9 Compat and merging mail gem into ActionMailer
Hi all of both RoR Core and TMail. You may know me better as the maintainer of TMail. However, TMail has been a bit difficult to get working with Ruby 1.9, so in the light of that, I sat down over the past few months and wrote myself an all encompasing mail gem. Mail passes all of its hundreds of specs equally well in Ruby 1.8.6, 1.8.7 and 1.9.1. Mail reads every email in the TMail test suite

Plugins and Engines
I''m trying to work out how to use the functionality from a plugin in an engine. It sounds weird, but it''s actually not so strange. I assume I can''t just add a vendor directory to an Engine, so some strategy for getting the plugin in the lib folder is probably necessary (and then requiring the plugin, perhaps?). -- Yehuda Katz -- Posted via

1.9.2 why does relative_require need an additional backtrack in path
Why does Ruby-1.9.2-p0 require an additional ../ for relative paths when compared to the same code for ruby1.8? if RUBY_VERSION < ''1.9'' require File.dirname(__FILE__) + library else require_relative File.dirname(__FILE__) + ''/..'' + library end -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "Ruby on Rails: Core"

Production install (RoR + Oracle + IIS)
Hi. Although an expert developer for IBM systems (iSeries) I am VERY new to RoR and somehow to the PC development world as well and not familiar AT ALL with PC configurations, etc. (in my regular job good ol'' IBM takes care of all that and I just need to code). So forgive me if any of the following sounds stupid, it probably is. Just get a laugh at my expense and try to answer between

Administrative Console Screencast
The first administrative console screencast is now available at: http://screencasts.visualjquery.com/demo1/ I''ve posted a bunch about the Admin Console, but it''s essentially an automated scaffold that works as an engine. The screencast is a quick overview of the minor things you''ll need to do in models, environment.rb, and others, as well as ::drumroll:: a demo of

Want to implement APIs in Rails.
Hi, I want to write APIs for my rails 3.1 application but have never written an API ever. I am supposed to write REST and SOAP APIs. Is there a formal book or e-book or screencasts or tutorials which teaches about APIs in Rails and best practices? -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "Ruby on Rails: Talk" group. Rendering a different format in the implementation of a renderer
Yehuda has a nice article on implementing a custom renderer for PDF at http://www.engineyard.com/blog/2010/render-options-in-rails-3/ I''ve tried to follow the example and I''m not sure I see how to get it to work. If I understand things correctly, the format(s) usable in this render call respond_with(@resource) do |format| format.xyz { render :xyz => ... } end

(Rails3-master) erubis: how to use things like preprocessing?
(Rails3 latest git master) Subject says it. I''m trying to figure out how to use erubis features described here: http://www.kuwata-lab.com/erubis/users-guide.05.html#rails, especially preprocessing. My question is, where do I place the Erubis::Helpers::RailsHelper.preprocessing=true Not in application.rb, at that point the object does not exist yet it seems. I wonder why I

How to disable ORM in Rails 3
Is there any way to prevent Rails 3 from using an ORM? In Rails 2, it used to have a description in environments.rb explaining how to do that. In Rails 3, is there any way to tell it to not use any database? I was trying to make some benchmarks from situations that don''t require a database... Admin Console
Hello again, I''m going to be releasing the administrative console (alpha) either tomorrow or Thursday. The reason I have not yet released it is that I''m in the process of migrating the entire system to AJAX, which has uncovered a few structural issues with the code that weren''t rearing their heads in the non-AJAXed version. I still need to make a few modifications,

yhtml plugin
I have released a yhtml plugin, which is available at http://http://svn.visualjquery.com/admin_console/trunk/admin_console/vendor/plugins/yhtml You can also get my other plugins, specificlly: the pre-alpha administrative console (AJAX-based scaffolding engine), acts_as_automatic, which allows you to define associations in a single yaml file, and not need to define has_many, has_one,
