Mounting Windows Shares from Linux
Hi All,
I'm sure this has been discussed many times but since I do not have
a internet connection, I have to ask this question..

Samba Shares and Win32 Viruses
Hi Collective users of Samba, (does has a nice ring to it eh?)
Recently I found a my samba server being infected by win32 viruses.
Though it does not affect the server in any way, I do find them to be
an annoyance.
I understand also that I can perform "veto" of files like *.exe in smb.conf
but find that to be a wee bit restrictive. There are some users who
stores valid executables in

SME Server 6.0.1 as standalone (Domain controler, mail & file server)
samba version 2.2.8a
I have a win95 machine on my network logged onto the domain with it's
d drive shared with full access and no password.
On server-manager I have setup a hostname for this machine based on
mac address so that the DHCP server gives it the same IP every time.
I have created a directory /mnt/win

getent showing wrong gids af
The only thing I know is that tdb files are Trivial DataBase files. So it's a database used by samba to persistently store stuff. The file I was refering to accidentally had "winbind" and "id" in its name, so I just deleted it to see what it gives. Seems I made the right choice.
I have no idea how to view these files though. Maybe someone on the list knows?

Traffic Control
So after reading the traffic control documentation at shorewall.net I am
a little confused. I don''t understand how to use the tcrules file.
What I would ideally like to do is setup htb on a per user basis (either
by IP or MAC address). If anybody has any hints on the best way to do
this or is willing to explain the use of tcrules file a little better
(how I could mark it per IP or MAC)

Automatically mounting home dir
Hello,
I've installed samba 3 on rh9. I configured kerberos, winbind, joined
the workstation to the AD domain . Now I am able to login using domain
user/password. How can I automatically mount the user's home directory
from the windows 2000 server.
Thanks,

How to export X displays
I have a CentOS server at home and want to view the X display on a laptop running Ubuntu, and not having much success.
Here's what's been tried so far:
I ran this command on the CentOS server:
export DISPLAY=192.168.0.18:0.0
And ran this command on the Ubuntu laptop:
xauth +192.168.0.2
When I try to run, say, xclock on the Ubuntu laptop, this is the error message I'm getting:

X flag in smbpasswd?
mksmbpasswd.sh does not create accounts with the X flag in the password
flags field. Does this X matter, and if so, what does it mean? It's not in
the man page.

Logwatch - malformed password entry(uid not number)
Hi All,
I've the following in the logs and am wondering why they are there.
I also keep getting emails from SAMBA log-deamon (or something like that).
[2003/05/19 15:24:29, 0] passdb/pdb_smbpasswd.c:getsmbfilepwent(364)
getsmbfilepwent: malformed password entry (uid not number)
It's not really serious (at least to me) but it's a cause for concern. Below
are the details

Can't find samba server after new NIC installed
Hi All,
Perhaps you guys can help me shed some light on this 'problem' I'm
facing.
I recently added another NIC to my samba server. eth0(10.0.0.251) and
eth1(valid dhcp address)
ETH0 was added to connect to another PC that acts as the backup server.
(dedicated connection)
Now, Samba won't come back up.. I can still ssh into the server and all.
Any ideas? I know that the wins

[Fwd: Re: RED/GRED implementation for InBound Traffic Control (from ISP)]
Sorry all, this is the missing email that I referred to previously. I
inadvertently sent it only to the original poster rather than the list.
Sorry for the wasted b/w for those who don''t care...

Unix password synch
Hi all,
Is there any way to automatically update the samba
password when a user changes his unix account password
using the passwd command.
I want samba to look in passwd file for
authentication. I dont want to create two accounts one
for local unix and then for the samba.
I am not planning to deploy ldap as a solution.
Is there any workaround.

MSSql Connections cannot be established
Hi All,
I''m using shorewall on my laptop(2 NIC) to connect my desktop to the
Internal LAN.
For some reason, MS''s SQL query analyser is not able to connect to the
SQL server. I alway get the "Server does not exist"
I even tried to connect to it using IP address rather than netbios name
and it still doesn''t work. All of the access is fine. (eg: WEB/ping etc)

mdmonitor not triggering program on fail events
Hi,
Can anyone help me with this since I want to get it done "the correct
way"
I'm trying to make mdmonitor to execute a program when it detects a fail
event automatically.
Currently, from what I see, init is calling mdmonitor with these options
mdadm --monitor --scan -f
(note that the --program is not there)
and this is in my /etc/mdadm.conf

(simple) Server Monitoring Package like ServerStats
Hi,
was wondering if there exists an RPM somewhere to a system monitoring
package which I can use to install on a centos server. I'm using
serverstats for my other gentoo boxes and it works great(and simple)
I can't seem to locate RPMS for serverstats for Centos.
Thanks

Checking how many DIMM slots are in use
Hi,
I'm wondering if there's a method for doing any of these
1. Check what's the physical memory available.
free -m shows ~768 mem but I was sure that I had 1G of memory in there.
2. I check the kernel and it seems like the 4G split is in effect so it
should map / correctly recognise there's 1G of Mem there.
Is there any way to check besides opening up the machine to look at it

Samba Sessions
Hi,
Sorry, I mean constantly increase of memory not decrease. The problem is
that there are too many Samba sessions opened and eventually drives my
server to a complete halt. It seems to me some used sessions are not
killed or freed from memory. Is there a way to fix this? I have been running
Samba happily for the last 6 months. For the last couple of days I'm forced
to reboot the server 4 to
