read a table ignoring specific rows ?
Dear R users,
First of all sorry for this question, surely quite naive.
(I searched on the R site but was unable to find by myself).
I have a table, called infile :
1 2 3
4 5 6
7 8 9
I would like to read it and ignore the rows with 1st element > 3
I do it now with a for loop, and it's ok,
but I was expecting something simpler, like :
intable = read.table(infile);
newtable =

conditional link_to_remote not re-rendering
I have an int, ''floorfrozen,'' in my table, ''channels'' that can take a
value of 0 or 1.
When I render a page, an image in a link_to_remote is called
differently depending what the value of channel.floorfrozen is, in a
partial, as follows:
<% if @channel.floorfrozen %>
<%= link_to_remote image_tag("/images/icecube.gif"), {:url =>

Dovecot 1.2.beta1 Backtrace POP3
I am testing out the new Dovecot 1.2.beta1 software. I am getting
reports from people using POP3 that it randomly drops connections.
Looking at the log file I see that the POP3 process they were connecting

jquery, format.js and IE
I''m trying to use jQuery to write all my js unobtrusively, and running
into a bit of a problem when triggering the format.js block in IE6 (and
possibly IE7). It returns the JSON string no problem, but instead of
parsing it, IE6 asks to download the resource as a .js file.
So if my url is ''/pictures/1.js'', IE6 will ask to save or run ''1.js''

HowTo; Rails 3, having Tabs that load content via jQuery ... No Page Refesh
Hello, I''m interested in learning the correct/smart approach for
implementing a web page with tabs and a content panel... When the tab
is clicked by the user the tab''s content is fetched and inserted with
jQuery... no page refresh...
Example, Facebook, when you click Photos or Events, it doesn''t refresh
the browser, just replaces the content with AJAX in the

Contingent Select Boxes - 2 Q's
I have a form with contingent select boxes (the state is contingent on
the country selected, so when the country selected changes, the state
changes -- I am using the Carmen plugin for getting my state names and
country names together, but not the functionality I am interested in
achieving).
Everything works fine except I cannot figure out how to amend my code
such that:

Routing problems for different formats
I am having 2 similar problems with routing.
1. With Rails if I make a js request using jQuery I always have to
append a ".js" extension to allow the request to be handled
appropriately. If I don''t append a js extension I get html formatted
data back. Using Merb this never happened and worked like I thought it
should.
2. Today I am having problems allowing xml requests to be

Ajax.request - SOAPAction
If I build my own XMLHttpRequest, I can do the following:

How can I do the same with AjaxRequest()?

Ajax.InPlaceEditor: controls.js update
I''m not sure if this is a bug or not, but I had to patch controls.js
file to accommodate the idea that I had planned.
I had to combine Ajax.InplaceEditor and AutoCompleter for a "tagging"
feature at my office.
With the autocompleter, I need to target an INPUT FIELD by ID.
However the generated INPUT field from the Ajax.InPlaceEditor did not
include this attribute in

dynamically changing a form from POST/CREATE to PUT/UPDATE
For the life of me I can''t figure this one out, although I can''t find
anyone else who''s attempted to do this, and probably with good reason.
Context: blog using AJAX
What I''m trying to do: when the user initially saves a blog entry, or
when auto-saving, I want subsequent saves to not create a new blog
entry
Why I can''t just reload the partial:

RESTful web service tutorial?
Hi,
I would like to turn some of our simulation codes
out to pasture and string some of them together
by draping them in web services.
I''m looking for a RESTful Camping tutorial to get
started ... pointers appreciated.
Some simple example applications:
airfoil force calculator: feed it an airfoil
geometry, an angle of attack, and a Mach number,
and it returns the lift, drag, and

[PATCH server] updated anyterm/ovirt integration
host static anyterm content locally,
url parameterize anyterm rows/cols/general param
update spec/makefile
Ideally I wanted and tried hard to put all this into a
seperate ovirt-server--anyterm subpackage, but we cannot
'reopen' the ovirt server virtual host defined in
ovirt-server.conf to add the neccessary rewrite rules. it would
be nice to figure out a way to do this

InPlaceEditor crash on Safari
Quick question..
I often crash my Safari when using ''Enter'' on InPlaceEditor''s for
submitting.
Works fine on firefox(win & Mac) - no javascript errors.
Anyone else seen this behavior?
(Maybe it is just my alterings of InPlaceEditor :-)

jQuery Rails Functions
Hi,
I was wondering if anybody who used jQuery with rails could help me
out. I have a droppable that fires a simple function, shown below:

drop: function(ev, ui) {
$(this).append("<br>Dropped!");
}
});
But how could I get this to fire a Rails funciton in the

[PATCH] in-place-editor, AJAX loading
I sent this on Friday but somehow managed to email it to the wrong email
address!
----
Attached is a patch to add external (AJAX) loading of content to the
InPlaceEditor.
2 extra options have been added:
loadUrl:
a URL to load the content from. If this is present, it will be used
instead of the innerHTML.
fieldId:
I had to add this so we know what the text field is when we''ve

Specify ID for a form?
Hi all,
I have a a really, really dumb Newb question... I am trying to use
observe_form to use AJAX calls in order to refresh a particular page
fragment using the form data.
I have run into a stumbling block very early on in the process - how can I
provide an ''id'' attribute to the form_remote_tag or start_form_tag methods?
Specifying something like :id =>
